Pretty average episode apart from a great quote of the day; ‘Mott is a huge pot smoker!’

Have you tried the 2007 Vayniac Cab? It seems like the wine you would like. I realy like it.

  • Allan

That's just a bit of Underworld (english techno) Banstyle/Sappys Curry. Sorry for being so complicated. πŸ™‚

QOTD – first, I could drink Port (or Sauternes) every day! But champagne is only an occasional for me

  • Anonymous

PORT ? with or without the R ?

    Hopefully with the R

You probably haven’t smoked enough Cubans in the past 4-5 years to refer to them as “plug-plagued” I’m not trying to be the almighty here, but I smoke only Cuban cigars (again, not trying to be pretentious) and have experienced just as many non-cuban cigars with plugs. Its a hand-made product. You certainly can’t expect ever cigar to draw like a straw. If you are referring to Cubans from 1999-2000, then yes, very poor quality wrapper and mass production led to a high yield of plugged cigars.

As far as quality, ’06-’09 have been some of the best years for Cuban tobacco since the mid ’90’s. I dare you to try one of the ’09 Quai D’Orsay Imperiales and tell me that their quality has gone down. Most of Cuba’s machine bunched/hand-finished cigars like Quintero or old La Coronas will outshine any non-cuban on the market today.

NOw there is nothing wrong with Padron, Camacho and Tat’s! I am good friends with Christian Eiroa (owner of Camacho) and have spent time with him in Honduras. His quality is bar-none! Jorge Padron is another dear friend that demands nothing but the best. I will always take a Padron over most any Non-Cubans.

MOTT! With a little bit of Gary. We are changing the world.
I like to have some scotch around but more often a biggg asssssss glasssss of big ass red wine!
Or a good bourbon, tequila, gin, grappa or vodka.
Pretty good show for a viddler : )

  • guymandude

Great guest but where's the interview? Would like to here the back story.

qotd; Port is a classic finish to a great meal.

  • Randall

    Actually, just admit that you got into gyfoomadotcomgirl’s ell ess dee stash… ;}

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

I’d probably go with Avelino Lara as the greatest roller Cuba has ever known. Garcia was certainly good, but there have been other Level 9 rollers to gain notoriety. Expamples: La China, Norma Fernadez, Tobaoda, Yolando, Hamlet, Cueto, etc. The list goes on.

  • Allan

Did you check out the vid of Waits from ep#867? Step Right Up?
    Now that's a classic!

  • I love the show. I am not as upset about the guests but it'll be nice to see you in the saddle alone as well.

QOTD: I always have some sort of dessert wine in the fridge for a rainy day. I always go with the “poor man's port” though. LBV's are my price point.

  • Anonymous

maybe he has been puffing on some gray markets from the canary islands i hear they got level 99 rollers churning out custom rolls for the right price.

  • Allan

    Thank u

  • Randall

Wow!! I was searching the hard drive of my mind (hit ‘Browse’… searching… searching…searching…) to come up w/ a suitable answer to the QOTD, and OMG… you’ve found it!! (along w/ other comparable dessert wines…)

  • castello

No I missed it. I'll go look now. TX!

  • waynooo

    VEEEERRRRRRY NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE !!!!!!!!!!!

  • amsgpwarrior

Yea definitely a superb smoke. Padron's higher end stuff, I agree, probably the best in the world, but I don't smoke those that often. I smoke Pepin Garcia's Vegas Cubanas like hot cakes. If I go hunting for the weekend I may smoke 4 a day. Pepin used to be Cuba's greatest cigar maker back in the day when he still lived there. Quality is top notch.

  • Allan

When will GV ever clean up that office,,,,,,,, NEVER!!! πŸ™‚

  • amsgpwarrior

We need a good madeira or sherry episode Gary! Hook us up!
    http://aaronfoodandwino.blogspot.com/

  • GUESTS ARE GOOD!

That's that out of the way,

QOTD: I like Chablis, but just occasionally. It's probably what a lot of people drink often but for me, I just need an explosion of minerality every now and then but not all the time.

  • DAveAll

good solid show. time to mix it up – why not role play an episode. Johnny Carson it, man! Wrap your head, snif and taste and then open the envelope that was sealed in a mayo jar – well, not this skit, but go nutz man. lie on the couch and have someone counsel you on the wines, or better!! Counsel a fan on the wines as you taste them.
GV: 50% Mott: 30 and the wines 20%. it's all about the wines, Gary.
qotd: tawny port is what I like once in a while. not often. once every two months.

  • I'd say you have to be careful with port and dessert because ports aren't ultra sweet like Sauternes and if you have a dessert that's sweeter than the port, all you really taste is alcohol.

  • Randall

Oh… I feel for you, bruh… “isn’t a beer you can drink all the time”? MOST days are “those certain days” for me!! If you’ve ever had a 10- to 20-year-old barleywine (‘Bigfoot’ from Sierra Nevada comes to mind because it’s fairly readily available), you’d want them every day as well!!
If I was rich, it’d be a veritable cornacopia of aged Belgians, barleywines and various red and white wines, and bubblies… and roses… and ports, etc… and not necessarily in that order!!
p.s. Did I mention I loves me some barleywines?!?! πŸ™‚

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Nothing like a good DG! Haha!

  • johnfarrin

QOTD: Definitely dessert wines. Probably only have them 4 to 6 times a year but if I didn't have them around something would be missing. btw GV I need you to get on the release of Le Gourmand Rivesaltes. That batch you reviewed was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Randall

    Port!! πŸ™‚ Right on time!!
btw, if you didn’t see my post… I’m down w/ probably 1 or 2 of each of your ports… for starters…

  • zrm

    Classic Episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MiniQOD: prolly 90-10 in favor of mott till you follow me on twitter GV (zachmoller)

QOD: Rose is my big every once in a while wine.

  • Randall

    Just Jack!! (aka “Superman”!) πŸ™‚
For almost 20 years I was not “super square”, and even proudly worked at the “grass roots” level (Sorry!! I know that wasn’t very punny…) for NORML, but am now EXTREMELY happy to be counted among the Square2!!
[No need for the weed] πŸ˜‰

  • SamKw

GV's QOTD: Let me phrase the question this way. In photography, who takes the credit? The photographer, or the thing/person being photographed? πŸ˜‰
Colin's QOTD: Port or sauternes is always nice to have around if you have the money. Madeira's nice too, especially because you can keep it open and come back to it whenever.

  • Randall

We need to play that song on a continual loop for him… πŸ™‚

  • adrums

    QOTD: Burgundy.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Time to watch the show….

Good choice of Port for a laid back Friday on the chill couch, GV!

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    1991 Dow's and a cigar….call it a day!

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Mott and Gary…send me your addresses —I'll send you a care package of good cigars! Or I can bring you guys some on 7/10….you pick.

    Mott, how about a 1994 Montecristo #3?

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

I loved the episode! Colin was a great guest, but I am glad you are going back to solo performances next week.

    QOTD 1: Mott 40 v. GV 60
QOTD 2: I'd have to go with Krug NV or an old Port (ex Graham's 1970). I just couldn't afford drink them all the time.

  • chrisbartow

So when is Mott going to start Cigar Library TV?

  • Randall

    p.s. waynooo… why’re stealin’ me “………”s? πŸ™‚

  • It's all Mott.

  • QOTD 1: 50:50. They're both equally important.
QOTD 2: I always keep a bottle of Dornfelder. Because even my non wine friends will enjoy it. And i'd rather be sharing something with my friends than drinking anything on my own. πŸ™‚

  • WineWoman

QOTD: Port, Cream Sherry or Champagne.

  • winesaurusrex

Gary! TV season is over and WLTV is going to be one of only a handful of things to watch over the summer. No pressure or anything.

QOTD: Probably Riesling, it's too sweet for me normally but when the ends meet and I want something sweet AND wine, I'll buy some Riesling.

  • corkscrew

Another good guest. LOVE Port and desert wines, have a small glass at the end of night on weekends. http://www.winelx.com

  • JiminAtlanta

We love Mott, but Gary V is the main reason to watch. I very much enjoy port during the winter and had a great time trying many of them in Porto a few years ago. QOTD – I agree that sweet wines are not something I drink often, but they can be wonderful to drink with people who appreciate them. They often have the delicious factor that makes you feel good.

  • “And alot of Mott!” Funny

Good, short, sweet show with one of the infrastructure dudes who has been with you from the get-go.

QOTD 1a: I love da Mottser but no one takes the place in my heart as you do G-Man. Truly

QOTD 2: Great question: DP, it doesn't matter which year but I go buy a bottle of DP and relish in it's history and unbelievable euphoria. Hopefully, with someone who can spell “Champagne.” πŸ™‚

    Cheers!

P.S. Have a great holiday everyone. See the glass in my avatar? Ummm, DP.
