  • Nice and sweet show but give me the hoopla of the longer Battle Royales though keep it short at beginning of week with longer episodes as the week goes on. Would you want to see a snippet of Rowdy Piper vs Hulk Hogan? I think not.

I see they finally signed your boy. I’m sure you must be quite ecstatic.

QOTD: The weather and the women. Easy

    Cheers!

    GO COLTS!

qotd – even though it’s not on the mainland, Madeira!

  • OK, on the format. Good. Liked the bacgrounder on the region. WOuld be nice to intersplice a Google map or something, showing me where it was exactly.
    QOTD: Cork.

  • I love these episodes… I enjoy the longer formats too–those are generally really funny to watch— but, I like the info and the concentration on one bottle of wine. Detailed tasting notes, you seem to pick interesting wines, all is good. however, you must try to always end a week with heavy hitters on Friday, it always makes my weekend that much better.

QOTD: If I had the chance to go I might say something different but I will default on Port.

I like all the formats ,it doesn’t matter it’s all thunder, and thanks for doing it.

  • Randall

    Just HAD to be first…

    😉

  • QoTD: Favorite thing about Portugal? Fado guitar 😀

  • Regarding the short format, I like it, but if you are gonna stick to only short format, consider 7 a week, one or two days with 2 episodes a day, or something for the weekends.

  • Randall

    QOTD: Porto, baby!! 🙂

p.s. Gary, I think Many would agree with WineWoman, Dominus, etc etc etc in asking you to keep mixing it up. Short is ok, but definitely shouldn’t become the main format. TTS has been such a big hit for good reasons, and I don’t really think anyone wants “New Coke”.
    (Sorry… 80s reference)

  • Randall

    Wow, good answer…

  • QOTD; Port

  • A dumb Rhein king

QOTD: Yeah, Port for me as well. I don’t really know anything about the country other than that. I was going to say Brazil, but it would have been a hollow jab for no apparent reason 🙂

  • A dumb Rhein king

btw … it was 6 that was afraid of 7 😛

  • Lurker coming out!

I heart WLTV, and the new format is great. Like lots of others, I think the longer eps are great, but these minis are a nice, sometimes more accessible change. Also, I think I would love that wine, so thanks!

QOTD: I don’t have a favorite thing about Portugal because I know very little about it. It seems to have a great location, though.

  • GARYYYVEEEE!

    On the New Format:
Longtime Vayniac here, as far as the new format is concerned if it is between no show and a show with only 1 wine I am totally for it. I will be severely disappointed if this were to become exclusively what you do, I would even feel a bit let down because many of your successes can be directly attributed to this show and I feel if you went to this format you would be, in a way, slighting many in the vaynernation. I also feel like a lot of the magic of the show would be lost and you would likely lose many viewers.

Either way I it has been a pleasure to watch you for the last few years. I started watching as a proud member of the CKC, back on episode #18 where you did the Amon Ra decanted and not decanted and while I am now graduated and in the real world, I am still a CKC at heart. Thank you again for all you do.

  • I like the shorter format. As a newer viewer, there are plenty of episodes to watch if I have more than a few minutes. For those of us that are crushing it, our time is valuable and we can’t waste it.

Love the format. Recommendation: Do one for each varietal and create a Wine Education page on the WLTV site where people can see them all in one place and learn about the varietal of their choosing.

Gary, I agree with Jay. Perhaps try and do a short show for each varietal from each region in the world. It’s a bit ambitious I know, but real cool. Good show.

    QOTD: The surf.
The single wine format leaves me wanting more, all great performers know that you must simultaneously deliver and leave the audience wanting more, but this format makes me want to much more. The wine to wine comparison aspect of the show is an essential part of the concept and is a major source of insight and information for the viewer. However, the twenty min shows of the past obviously take much more time to film and time is money or even more valuable time away from family. I think a two wine show five days a week in the ten min range is the solution which would satisfy the vayniaks thirst for mine knowledge and cut down on production time and cost.

Thanks for all the hard work GV.

I already miss the longer format. 3 wines – in depth look – 15 minute video? please?

I don’t think that a five minute show is really “in-depth”, even if you’re only doing a single wine. Historically episodes tend to have about three wines and run about fifteen minutes, which works out to roughly the same amount of coverage for each wine. Maybe there’s more focus in these episodes, but personal anecdotes and humorous rambling is a bit part of the charm of WLTV and it would be a huge mistake to lose it.If I’m being honest, the feeling I get from this is that GV is taking on a huge amount of work between regular business at Wine Library, WLTV, his book deal, his new radio show, and all the non-business business of having a family, and maybe he’s looking for somewhere to trim the edges. That’s entirely understandable — WLTV isn’t a contractual obligation like some of those other things, and no one would ever ask him to take time away from his family — but I’d be lying if I said I liked these mini-shows as much as the real deal. I can understand the appeal for people who can only take a few minutes out of their day to watch, but for a lot of us who watch it on a lunch break or to unwind at home, five minutes doesn’t quite do it.For the most part, though, the shows lately have been fantastic.

    GV,
1st of all sorry for lurking for so long. Havent been watching faithfully as I did. Life has been too crazy to fit everything in. Used to leave comments frequently. Need to get back into the habit.

I like the format – I think your shows deliver a ton of useful information – very educational. A few shows like this could be used to deliver even more information. I love learning new things about wine. Wouldn’t do this every show, but mix some of these in from time to time.

  • On the new format: mix it up! Variety is the spice of life, for sure. Besides, it seems if you stick to any one thing, some contingent might be unhappy.

    QOTD: Port. No question.
