Hey, it’s about quality not quantity, so the shows length should not be an issue not matter how long or short it is.

QOTD: That things there are soooo affordable!

  • Anonymous

    Hey Gary,

Liked the show, but definitely prefer the longer shows with 3-4 bottles. I definitely have to try the wine-I’ve really enjoyed their red blend and for $10 you can’t go wrong.

  • Thursday

this format is great for “library” purposes, but for fresh viewing I personally prefer regular format…

    QOTD: value

  • Anonymous

There are several first times for everything right? He was wearing a different shirt 😉

    Pink Floyd, Time?

It might be a harsh shot from the hip, but it was right on target.

Going to jump on the bandwagon (again) and say well said Karrens.

Bottom line is you have to do what you have to do. It seems from reading the comments that people on this forum Enjoy watching for multiple reasons, the short shows, the long shows, the antics and the info. Personally, I will appreciate any shows you can give us (as many aforementioned individuals have stated). That being said your approach to this show seems to be off the cuff, if you are feeling the long shows and have time to do so you do it. I would be a little remised if the spontaneity took a turn toward the mundane. That being said, you are only one man (besides Sir Gary). Whichever format you decide to do and whatever happens to become of WLTV many individuals will always be grateful for your advice, information, style and entertainment. Thank you.

  • understood!

  • good point!

Thanks! Many of my friends tell me that I make many good points. I just feel that it’s me being 100% honest all the time.

  • Nice episode, always good to see Portugal get some love for non-port wines. QOTD: Besides the women, I’m a huge fan of those big, powerful, complex reds made primarily from the Touriga grape you mentioned.

  • we really like the Mencia…enjoyed your Dao interview and the reference to Jaen.

  • I concur…good catch.

  • Lvine

I like the format of just one wine and lots of information about the grape varietal, region, producer, etc., but 5 min is a bit short.

QOTD: Português — such a beautiful language! And of course the vinho.

    Saludos!

  • Like many…I’ll take what I can get…but because we do not do TV (broadcast, cable, satellite, or otherwise)…I really look forward to WLTV to both educate and entertain.
This one was very quick, and felt like you were running against the clock…was this one taped before the other two shorties, but released afterward?

QOTD: …great, consistent, inexpensive everyday table wine – Altano by Symington Estates

  • Kmurph

Hi guys, just wanted to let everyone know that there will be no event at WL on 9/25. Gary had mentioned it on the show, but we’re unable to do the event. If you have any questions, please email me at kmurphy [at] winelibrary.com.

  • Randall

Nah. Just sort of in reply to NYPete and my overall malaise at having to dump my internet provider today. Funny how I’m taking a break at the PORTugese episode. 🙂
    Will be back sometime soon.

    Off to Lurk I go…

  • Anonymous

    I disagree respectfully.

  • Anonymous

Nice, you seem to rate the wines higher when you do just one wine.

  • Anonymous

I’ve got to keep all oars in the water so to speak.

  • Anonymous

As I said for the last two episodes this format definitely has its place in WLTV. Once a week…two or three times a month maybe!

QOTD: gotta be Port, no doubt about it.

GV: Please correct the Tempranillo thing next time!! You had me on wiki and all sorts of places to double check. It got me reading lots of interesting stuff, so no harm done by me, but we can’t have the Vayner Nation spreading bad info on such two important grape varieties 😉

    Cheers, Niels from Denmark.

  • TommyB

QOTD: Tawny port and their excellent red table wines.

  • Anonymous

I agree with both of you, but especially agree that it was good to see Portugal get beaten by Norway last night. Sorry Ron…hahaha!! (gotta mock when you can)

  • Anonymous

Nice man! The tempo of this show reminded me of a 80 yard, no huddle offense drive straight down the field for a touchdown in the first f’ing possession of the game! Straight bringing the thunder!

    QOTD: Nani. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nani_%28footballer%29 )

  • Anonymous

You’ve stumped me – that’s bringin thunder! (Previously, I’d never encountered Pecorino, or a Vin Jaune). Encruzado looks good, and right up my alley. And I’m always a huge champion of PAL expansion.
C’mon. you’re good at this. Whether laid back couch, flip-phone, sidewalk, or w/ world class guests, you’ve got the range, knowledge, passion, & experience to make it yours. The book shares that, and I loved that. Only fail for me was poor audio on location, w/ crowds, or noisy scenery. In under 10 minutes, you can cover your socials, issuse/events, even some of your beloved sports, and TWO wines. But , yer good. Like.

    Nice inspiration Gary. Thanks!

  • These tight shows also seem to make you tighten up a little. Don’t let yourself get handcuffed with some of the edu-mication info (we don’t need to know that it rains 42 inches a year in the Dao region). Once you get past some of the cold hard facts and into the wine sniffing and tasting, good ole GV comes back. Just tell us what you know about the grape and the region (I am sure it is 90% more than most of us know) and get to the wine in these quick shows. Keep them coming, man. Good luck vs. the Ravens on Monday- going to be a great game.

  • Anonymous

Wouldn’t a Dao go good now?

  • Anonymous

Gary – Touriga Nacional is not Tempranillo. Like the format, quick and informative. You keep this up though the Vayner Nation is going to need 2 videos a day

  • QOTD

Best thing about Portugal (I’m gonna say wine) is this wine:

Esporao Private Selection White Herdade do Esporao Portugal / Alentejo

If you’re in the UK, you can get it from the Halifax wine company who are Portuguese specialists. It was £10, and could easily be mistaken for a rich burgundy in the £15-£20 range so top top stuff. Also I’d better keep up my campaign off…

hey Gary, i like the info style lots of information but i prefer lots of info on a longer show.

    QOTD: my girlfriend 😛

  • garym

    QOTD That’s it’s next to SPAIN !

I know this is going to make me sound like a GV junkie, but I absolutely HATE this shortened format. Your best shows are your brown bag shows and you know it. One wine shows suck becuse it does not give viewers a choice (other than up or down on that one wine). I know you are branching out and have other priorities, but either do it good or don’t do it.

Now I am SOOO glad I didn’t return the modem to my ISP yet tonight… 🙂
(Comcast tried to raise my internet rates 3fold, and out of sheer principle, and lack of that kind of scratch, I cut them off and now have to find someone else. C’est la vie…)

    Thank you again.

  • NY Pete

    WTF … no thunder tonight???

  • mannyn

dont like the new short format….dont understand if u can do one wine with intense detail in five minutes you can do 3 in fifteen…seems like a cop-out for a shorter show …anyhows favorite thing about portugal is the food of course…byb you need to try “Feital Auratus Alvarinho Trajadura 2009” it will rip your face off and great deal for $12

  • Anonymous

Gray, there is a good subject for you… NETRE – DEUX – MERS, what do you thing?… congratulations for this epsode… is good larn about new grape.

  • Jared Levy

Not a fan of THIS tight a format. I prefer the 15 min episodes with a little extra fluff. Other than that, keep rockin’ the content Gary!

  • Anonymous

Oh. Forgot the QotD – O Português é uma língua muito beleza. It is a very beautiful language. (and culture, and geography, etc.)

  • Randall

He steps it up w/ the lingua!! 🙂

It has always sounded to me (esp. the Brazilian accent) like an imaginary Russian/Spanish combo w/ a hint of soft German in it. Maybe that’s just me…

  • QOTD The Algarve; and especially Luz. It reminds me of Malibu before it got spoiled.

  • NY Pete

so basically, Sasha said no way, right Murph … 🙂

  • Anonymous

I like the content but, would like more wines reviewed than just one. 3 is the perfect #.

    QOTD: Cork.
