GV – Glad to see you back in the Thunder Saddle! I was getting nervous there for a minute! Getting back into Pinot, so I will keep me eyes out for those wines!

QOTD: I really liked the Wild Rock Pinot!

  • John__J

Just had the Wild Rock too, good stuff

  • Anonymous

GV glad the thunder is back; this makes my work day so much better!

QOTD 1: None to speak of but excited to get back into Pinot after this show. The amount of mediocre California Pinot combined with the ridiculous prices have sort of killed my gusto for this varietal but after this show exploring NZ Pinot is probably worth the effort, especially at under $20.

QOTD 2: Only thing new is great football (college and Pro) and cooler climates, which means drinking more big, robust wines and more port!

Glad to see your back and healthy and heading to the great state of MN! Check out some of the great microbrews in the state. Schell’s and Summit are simply fantastic breweries. God Bless!

QOTD: Missed you last week, Gary. It was a little odd not having my WLTV. Right now I’m getting back into the swing of school and applying to grad school and stuff along those lines. I’m really excited about football season. The Wolverines have scared me a little the last two weeks (our secondary needs some major work!) but they’ve pulled it off thanks to the offense which is on fire! I was in NYC last weekend visiting some friends and had some really great bottles of wine including a Sagrantino di Montefalco (which was the highlight). As far as New Zealand pinot noir goes, I’m pretty uneducated, I haven’t ventured over there yet. Glad to see your back, I look forward to the Thundershow everyday.

    GO BLUE!

Nice price surprises on what makes my mouth water…always love the Pinots!
QOTD-ish: Really like the idea of you commenting on the comments.

  • Anonymous

QOTD1: I have actually been searching for a NZ Pinot Noir for the past few months and can not find one red New Zealand wine in any store near me. The search continues. . .

QOTD2: I recently assisted a friend press some grapes. As a reward for all of my labor I got to take a few bottles of his homemade vino home with me.

The hot summer got me on a white wine adventure. A devoted red wine guy, too hot for that so tried rieslings, chenin blancs, sav blancs, albirinos etc. Found my white wine sweet spot

First comment here on WLTV. Really never thought I would get so into this, but here I am!

    Welcome back Gary!

Great to have ya back Gary, good episode too-I love New Zealand Pinot’s.
Qotd: Just had a bottle of Wild Rock Pinot 3 days ago.
For the past week I’ve been doing a much needed wine inventory at Antrim 1844 (antrim1844.com) where I work now, which is the 1st full on wine inventory I’ve done since starting there a couple months ago. There’s approx. 20,000 bottles there, and wow it’s taking a while to get that done.
Just bought a bunch of wine today at my fav wine shop in Baltimore that was having a “dollar days” sale. So I got some steals on a lot of stuff including Chateauneuf-du Pape, Royal Tokaji, Bandol, Amarone, Mavrodaphne of Patras, Uruguayan tannat, Savennieres, a Palo Cortado, a chard from Arbois, a Slovenian pinot gris, and a couple other things I can’t remember right now.

Confessions of a lurker…this is my first post.

Great show today. You brought the energy GaryV. Love the show, website, and everything else. Please try/rate more Portuguese wines!

My sad sad 49ers are going to make me drink more this season…

  • Tom

Good show Gary — great to have you back. I’m not a huge NFL fan (since I live in Michigan), but I am a big Wolverine fan. Just curious, what do you think about Denard Robinson (shoelace)?

  • Anonymous

Yeah, now ya come back after your Jets get lucky and beat my Fishes.

qotd. Had that Oyster Bay as well,it is good.

  • Anonymous

Best New Zealand Pinot is Te Muna Road 2007-08 from Craggy Range

    G’day Gary, welcome back.

I’ve just had some Reilly’s Barking Mad Cabernet Sauvignon from South Australia, very nice. Other than that I’m recovering after watching my sons football team lose in the local Grand Final. Two years in a row. Well, there’s always next year.

  • Anonymous

Loved the Jets game yesterday and I enjoyed a cheap and wonderful spanish wine with it. Bodegas Castano la casona is the name and its lovely.

  • Never had a New Zeeland Pinot.

Other than that, just trying to crush it. Getting ready for new company launch – SalesBasix. Hoping to get more involved in pro sports social media campaigns.

Good to have you back in the saddle and REALLY enjoyed the impromptu Wine and Web taping the other day.

  • My man is back! Congrats on your victory. If nothing got you back in the saddle than the Jets beating Da Fish, we were in trouble.

Great, great show, the Kiwis bring the pinot thunder.

QOTD #1: I’m a fan of The Crossings and Oyster Bay actually especially their SB. Great stuff.

QOTD #2: Working (unfortunately), playing tennis, drinking wine, cooking some gourmet meals, listening to your show and being shutout by the receptionist who gave my name as “Dominic” and, of course, playing fantasy football while rooting for my Colts!

Is Peyton Manning “sick” or what?

Cheers and welcome back. We missed you.

P.S. The wine is Delta “Hat” ers not “hate” ers. We leave that for the Cheaters. πŸ™‚

  • Good stuff ^^^^^

  • Welcome back GV! Glad everyone’s 100% again…

QOTD – Well, let’s see. Walked into Italian Wine Merchants (store near union Square) on Friday, and despite promising myself not to buy anything, I was greeted with a wine sample of a red from Valle d’Aosta… A half hour and about $36 later, I walked out into the concrete jungle with a bottle in tow. Ah, yes – also tasted my very first Sauternes on the first night of Rosh Hashanah. Seemed as appropriate an occasion as ever, and it turns out that the Sauternes/apples & honey pairing works quite well.

And I’m really proud of myself for starting and finishing the previous paragraph with the word “well”. Looking forward to a great week of WLTV!

    -D.

P.S. – No guilt trip intended of course, but I did have the morning and afternoon of 9/25 blocked off for the WL event announced in episodes 890 and 891, but since it was CANCELLED… I went in the ocean with my father, which was no less cool.

  • Welcome and understand given the 49ers were touted to win their division along with Da Boys and the Vikings.

  • Alexandre-CF

Hey Gary, itΒ΄s great to have you back.
nice show. NZ is rocking really hard.

iΒ΄m just enjoying my new iPad, spending hours on it. and having hard times on the university.

QOTD 1 : Felton Road Pinot Noir 2008

  • Is that the store on York Rd? Can’t remember what it’s called but my roommate would swear by it. Kind of a shame I wasn’t a wine geek (snob) while I was there…

  • John: You work at the Antrim? I had one of my greatest nights at your establishment a couple years ago. The evening wine/cheese get-together with the other guests and then walking down to the restaurant was quite memorable. So memorable in fact, I framed my personalized menu which hangs in my kitchen today.

  • love Oyster Bay!

  • Gary brings back Randi. There is a G-d.

    Shooting range? Nice πŸ˜‰

    Gary,
Don’t sweat the Negative posting type People. Glad your back.
Not in to Pinots to much. Just put up 15 gallons of white Zin a week ago and 5 gallons of Zinfandel yesterday. Hope to get off to a good start with Missbehaven Vines.

  • Hustling up on Xbox Live for the new Windows Phone 7. We’re getting ready to ship!

My Raiders are 1-2. Not terribly worried as statistically I feel we’re doing ok. Still need to get better and we have a ways to go, but I think we can still pull off an 8-8 season. If not I am coming to the Wine Library with a STRAW!!!

  • I’ve been choppy in September too. Had my appendix out this weekend and left me a bit behind on blogging/videos.

Yes, our Niners are sad, but hey, we did fire our OC today. It might be a step in the right direction. The Niners are driving me to drink (more), but at least i’m trying out new wines and expanding the palate in the process. -Cheers

  • HARVEST TIME IN SONOMA!
TRYING TO FIND YOUR MAILING ADDRESS SO I CAN SEND YOU SOME WINE, RUSSIAN RIVER MERLOT AND ZIN, INTERESTED? My father-in-law’s winery (Albini Family Vineyards), it’s our 20th anniversary and we’d love to see what you think. Small production (500 cases), hand made, old school to the N’th. I’ve been watching since approx. episode 150, this was a long absence, you we’re missed.
    Regards, Matt

  • This isn’t a negative post G I swear! Just wanted to say that I’m a little disappointed with the WLTV facebook page. It’s littered with spam, it’s lookin’ a lil’ neglected. Haven’t seen a video upload hit my newsfeed since August. I’d like more of a community feel happening around the page. Loving the NZ review btw, it’s pretty hard to find some of the labels you review in Australia, so this made me smile. πŸ™‚

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    I knew you’d being riding a motorcycle before long. ; )

Good show! Just starting to learn/try new wines (with your help), so glad you’re back.

I’m actually trying a bottle of 2009 Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc. Really enjoying it, in Tesco (UK) reduced to Β£7 (11 dollars). Bonus.

  • Anonymous

    Great to have you back.

Actually spending soime time helping out at a vineyard here in Jersey during harvest and at the state-wide Wine Growers Festival next weekend. Also playing some tennis. Great to hear good things about the Oyster Bay. Should be easy to remember, affordable, and easy to find.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Welcome back! Great brown bag show. Love Pinot and it’s great to see some inexpensive wines get the limelight for a minute. I will grab the Oyster and Gunn the next time I’m out.

QOTD: Like several others have said, just working. I have been under the weather lately, so no wine/cigars. Hopefully this week I can drink a few bottles. Dallas impressed me by beating up on Houston (a team that is really really good right now). Foster is a BEAST! Hope the Jets D can keep it up for my fantasy’s sake. πŸ˜‰

Acquired a few good bottles for my birthday coming up (10-10-10)…hows that for a birthday date?!?!

PS-I like the “halfway crooks” tweet the other day.

  • WB GV, Mott, and the rest of the WLTV crew! Bringin’ it back with some brown bag action, and well-performing bags at that!

QOTD1: Haven’t had much NZ Pinot, though it seems Felton Road is the one to check out according to many commenters.

QOTD2: Back at biz school, already heading into mid-terms after lots of Jewish holidays with the fam. Oh, and it’s NYC Craft Beer Week, baby! Ironically, I have drank some wine too, a white blend, ’08 Barossa Shiraz, and a Pinot Noir just yesterday. Looking forward to completing first mid-term tomorrow and celebrating the rest of the week, culminating in a friend’s wedding this Sunday.

  • Troytee

GV- Back in the saddle! Chasing the Stink-a-potamus.
Been rocking out great wines with the likes of @Drod_wino, @Jparadisee, @troutmonster, @kmurph, and @ronga. Doing our own Brown bag thing.

BTW: Totally enjoyed Wine and Web the pre-Thursday 9/30 edition.

Stopped by WL today and it was an awesome experience as always. Cheers!

QOTD: NZ Pinot Noir= Mt Difficulty.

  • Jay

Enjoyed watching the Jets and the Ravens do their thing this week.
Nice to see Mottster in the saddle again and on point!

Update to my post: I picked up the Oyster Bay, but it’s too damn hot today for me to be drinking reds. I’ll be checking out a 2008 Domaine de Coussergues Vin de Pays instead. Parker gave it 90 pts and it was less than 10 bones, should be interesting.

  • I don’t have a “favorite” NZ Pinot Noir yet…

QOTD: it’s been OK for me this month, a bit of work an a lot of play, taking photos, eating well, had my birthday on the 2nd (did nothing special), been getting around in foul weather (it’s been raining too much), went to a wedding anniversary party, opened some Bordeaux, Vacqueyras and Chateauneauf DuPape, been writing and sketching some ideas for a new series of my webcomic… All good actually.

  • Anonymous

Glad to see your back Gary. I will definitely have to try and find that Oyster Bay PN.

Answer of the Day to the QOTD you should have asked: The Bears are going to win Monday night 23 to 20 against the lackers. Robbie Gould kicking the game winning field goal with less than 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. Bear Down!

  • Working at bringing up a business plan for a new venture that my wife and I working on. We hope to open after the first of the year. Working on bringing suppliers on board now and selling the idea. Next we look for the real estate.

Thanks for continuing to push us through your book. #CrushIt.

    @DanLacher

  • Great to have you back! Thanks for returning, we did miss you.

    SQOTD: No idea.

QOTD: Sabbatical ended, work started, deer season in full swing, our 3rd baby (1st boy) due any day now and can’t wait for the cooler weather.

  • Anonymous

    Glad you’re back!!
    SQOTD: Valle
QOTD: Teaching music is now in full swing with the new semester having begun. Student population is down about 20%, so I’m cutting back on everything, unfortunately that includes wine purchases. πŸ™ Luckily, I have many aged bottles in the cellar ready to drink. Had a ’98 Behrens and Hitchcock (when it was still B & H) Mendocino Syrah–very smooth and silky. Also had the ’06 Marge Priorat–chocolate-covered cherries all the way!!

  • Definitely feels RIGHT that we have a WLTV taped and aired on the same day. Missed it.

Been drinking a bunch of inexpensive organic reds from a local organic market. Never had Carmenere before. My palette sucks so lets just say it worked for the meal we had. Seems to be like a Merlot with a little Cab Franc. Forget the maker….

Great football weekend. Steelers 3-0 on some killer D. Some great plays. Redskins suck right now, but I knew that.

4.5 month year old son Joseph is getting cranky with the teeth coming in – open for TIPS and home remedies.

We like the Oyster Bay PN, too.

Please let us Minnesnowtans know when you will be here. We would love to see you!

  • So my invitation should be coming shortly? No?
