Interesting show. I would never of thought to pair wine with a hotdog. It just doesn’t sound American but then why not give it a try.

QOTD: I have been using a homemade habernero peach chutney along with mustard and onions on the hotdogs. Sweet, hot and quite enjoyable.

  • laurensNL

Hmm hotdogs, trying them with Cotes du Rhone 07 tonight…

QOTD: sausage, sauerkraut, mustard and bread. Now th kind of bread is important. I do not like the sweet bread you often get with take away hotdogs. I like the more savory style.

  • Clean the windows!Lunchtime and we actually see Gary drink!Your brother in laws wedding????QOTD: Mustard, ketchup and pickles and with a cold lager

  • First order of business – Mott is now my hero for not having a cell phone, as discussed at the end of the previous episode.

QOTD – I guess I like it about 5-7 years ago with the brownest possible mustard and onions.

Fun show Gary. My rule for hot dogs and wine is white wine with chicken dogs and red wine with beef dogs. QOTD: Carolina style: mustard, slaw, chili, and onions

  • DaveAll

oddly – I like Cab Franc with hotdogs. but my condiments are different.
    shooting mustard packs, ugh? haha

    QotD: mustard, ketchup, sweet relish.

Nice show GV! Man you need to start shipping wine to Brazil! That would be huge! Come down here so we can talk about a branch of WL in here! 😉

QOTD: Bread, Sausage, Bolonhesa sauce and a bit of Dijon mustard. Accompanied by a nice stone-cold beer.

  • Oakmon’s BF
  • QOTD: only way I have ever eaten them, for as long as i can recall, mayo and freshly chopped onion.

No cart near the library? Shame! Nothing makes a hotdog great like several hours’ worth of simmer in a nice, congealed broth of mystery juice.

When I gotta run: Dog with mustard.
When I can enjoy it: Dog, mustard, onions, relish.

  • QOTD: Chicago Style, if you put ketchup on it I will kick you out.

  • Sarah

Why no Rose in the line up? Oddly enough, one of my most memorable pairings was a French Rose and a Turkey dog.

QOTD: ketchup, mustard, relish and onions

  • BTower

    QOTD: Yellow

  • philoxera

QOTD…..I like labrador dogs in particular….But I’d never eat a whole one!

  • Toewee

Mustard, relish, onions and sometimes cheese. Love malbec too so I guess a match made in HEAVEN?

It doesn’t suprise me that a hot dog pairs well with red wines being a beef product. I saw on the box that it was an Oscar Meyer weiner and that also make a difference. I like the Ball Park Grillmaster hot dog which has more beef in it and not a hodge podge of beef or pork parts. They even have hot dogs made with turkey, so there is another pairing.

I like that you will try and even pair a hot dog with wine. Interesting show to say the least. Good show overall.

QOTD: I also like the hot dog with just mustard preferably at a baseball game, but favor ketchup and mustard both on the dog.

A hotdog, if filleted open, and seared should be topped with coleslaw, crushed potato chips, and maybe a little mustard. The searing gives it extra flavor, the coleslaw and chips give it extra texture.

Thanks for the fun show! Malbec is a great food wine.

QOTD: Ketchup, deli mustard, sweet relish and white onions for regular hot dogs,
deli mustard and onions with sausages.

  • Alexandre-CF

malbec can be so great with BBK, and food in general. nice show garyQOTD: With some tomato sauce, chillies, ketchup, and a type o fries that is really thin taht we have in Brazil.

P.S : you should clean your window Gary… LOL just kidding

QOTD: 7-11’s nacho cheese (nothing beats liquid cheese in a bag) and jalapenos.

GV – Interesting show, I don’t eat too many hot dogs, but nonetheless good to know!

QOTD: When I do eat the occasional dog, I got Mott and Gary on it (ketchup and mustard)! BOOM!

  • My new favorite dog is Five Guys Bacon and Cheese dog topped with spicy mustard, dill relish, sauerkraut and jalapeños.

  • If you like hot dogs and wine….check out what other fun foods I’m pairing with wine! Everything from fried chicken to smores!! http:quitWINEing

QOTD: Mustard Baby! And lots of it!

  • Pizza Vino Joe

QOTD – I like them best sitting at Progressive Field with just brown stadium mustards with a tall overpriced beer. ( beer brand based soley on what is available close to me when I decided to get a few hot dogs)

@Pizza Vino Joe – Go Tribe! I, too, am a Cleveland Vayniac. I’ve got to admit, the best place to eat a hot dog is at the ballpark – period!

  • Anonymous

Odd but interesting show, GV> Was this one of the suggestions last week (which you were supposed to do this week)? 😉

QOTD: I like my hot dogs grilled, not boiled, with spicy brown stadium mustard and onions. Of course, a good chili dog is pretty darn good as well.

  • Love the pairing eps…I actually really want a hot dog RIGHT NOW.

QOTD: Generally, I prefer mustard, onions, and sauerkraut. However, I will also enjoy Chicago-style, Chilean-style (Completo), and the occasional chili dog.

@Courtney Rich – I checked out the http:\quitwineing.com website. I really liked it. Nice job!

loved this episode! Malbec was my guess for best pairing with a hotdog, so shiny gold star sticker for me I suppose. During the summer I bbq’d hotdogs and chose a Malbec to have with, deliciousness! Thanks for introducing the Mas Jullien, it sounds like my style and will be a buyer if I find it on a good sale.

QOTD: Hebrew National All Beef hotdog cooked well on a bbq, steam the bun, and topped with mustard, tomato, and celery salt.

  • Monkey151

My hot dogs need to be cooked over a campfire with ketchup.

  • QOTD: sauerkraut, raw onions, (sorry Obama) Dijon mustard

    Great episode

    QOTD: onions, ketchup and mustard

    Man, I want one now.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Quite the question! Depends on my mood, as a standard I usually go simple ketchup with a grainy brown spicy mustard. Or if I’m feeling fancy onion rings, sauerkraut, relish and a similar mustard (I love me some mustard!).

  • WineCutter

QOTD: Mustard (preferably brown) and kraut. Though a bit extreme, I think Anthony Bourdain got it right when he said…”if you put ketchup on your dog I will f**king kill you.”

  • Eirikpm

QOTD: Heinz ketchup, a good mustard and raw onions. I also like sauerkraut or even pickles 😉

  • ALLAN

    GIIIIIVVVVVEEEEE MEEEE MOOOORRRREEEE VIIIIINOOOOOOOOOO:::::::!!!!! 😛

  • Missatiejacket

Gary, towards the end you said that the Languedoc wine is from Provence. I’m sure it was just a slip of the tongue as I know I don’t have to tell you that these are two different places. no hot dogs for me. If I have to have one it’s vegetarian with ketchup, mustard (brown stone ground), and maybe a little relish.

  • AJ

All you guys/gals bastardizing your dogs by putting ketchup on them are on crack!!!!!

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Poppy seed bun, mustard, onions, sport peppers, tomoato, and a sprinkle of celery salt.

  • Anonymous

    Plain!

  • BIGDOG

Either mustard and relish, or chili & cheese. No exceptions tolerated!

  • Anonymous

battered, fried, on a stick, and smothered in mustard and ketchup

  • bobbytiger

I very much enjoy the Luigi Bosca Reserva Malbec.
On it’s own, with hearty meats, but never never with “hot dogs”.
Do you know what they put in those things?
QOTD: You are kidding right? Never thouch um.

  • QOTD: Straight up!

  • QOTD; A kiss of mustard.

  • nate
