    I’m in.

Boy, I’m going to have to rent a bigger hall in order to squeeze in all the people who I have been introduced to on WLTV who I’d like to spend time with ๐Ÿ™‚ Maria, you get a seat at the head table. Wonderful show!

    QOTD: Balance

  • Gbendoni

Big G, Great guest. I had to come out for this one. I would just love to try her wines and I hope to soon. I’m glad you changed your mind about how many guest you’d have on the show this year.

QOTD: Complexity and new unexpected flavors.

  • NY Pete

    great show dude.

  • Anonymous

Once again great guest. Incredibly classy. Have actually never had their wines, but I will have to try them (well, I will hold off on the $120 until I get a job…)

QOTD: I look for balance, but more importantly, it is about the experience. What I mean by this is that each wine should bring a unique experience. That is why some of the mass produced, over marketed junk are terrible. They bring nothing to the table expect Hi-C with alcohol. I really love how 2 wines from neighboring vineyard with the same varietals can taste completely different. It is really refreshing to see a winery like theirs continue a tradition of making a unique wine.

  • Jag

Great show, great guest… great QOTD.

I guess what I look for in a (great) wine is depth. Sure, it has to be well made and all the rest, but really good wines survive a first taste and bring a new experience over each new taste through to the end of the bottle. Even better, they create a persistent memory of the experience that you can recall for hours, days, or even years. It’s like experiencing ‘first love’ all over again. Happily, the more you look, the more you find it.

  • NY Pete

balance … great interview Maria … way to bring the thunder!

  • Thnx pal

  • i agree……..

  • whoa, missed this yesterday!
Looks like we are having Rioja tonight, and will enjoy watching these back to back.
    Muchas Gracias!

Maria is a real charmer. Gary: You obviously get excited to dialogue with the guests but it would be even better if you let them finish their answers before jumping in with another question or comment. Some of Maria’s most interesting comments were getting cut off by your questions. That said, these were both great shows. I learned a lot.
    QOTD: Full body and balance.

  • SniffySmith

Awesome show with a great guest Gary! Maria was absolutely charming. You can tell she cares very much about continuing her family’s tradition of winemaking, and that is some SERIOUS thunder!

QOTD: I look for value in my wines. There’s a lot of gems out there under $20 that would humble the Sr Gary-types of the world. Some of the wines I’ve had from your show that prove it are the Oyster Bay Pinot, and Kung Fu Girl Reisling.

  • QOTD: I look for love!

  • Dee

Maria, any plans about distribution in Quebec (Canada)?

QOTD: Authenticity. If a wine talks to me about where it came from without any artifices, the flavor itself may be different from one wine to another, it doesn’t matter. I guess that’s called terroir.

  • She had me at “Beer is a healthy beverage”

QOTD: A balance of sweet, dry, and acid. Add bubbles and you have a winner. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Vincentscudder

QOTD: red, full bodied, not too sweet, not too sour, with good tanins, under 20 bones. eg: alamos malbec

  • Do I have to sit at the kiddie table again? Oh man….. ๐Ÿ™‚

What a guest! I definitely need to visit Rioja! Hopefully I can get a chance to visit Lopez de Heredia, that would be incredible! Thank you Maria!

    QOTD: Balance and length.

Gary, is the 1981 Bosconia Gran Reserva the first wine that you have tasted twice on the show (ref: episode #290)?

  • Globex

fantastic guest, fantastic interview… good job Gary. She is very charming indeed, and her wines sound appealing to my palate, made me thirsty to try them.

    QOTD: earthy soil with minerals

  • Anonymous

What? Tired of having your knees in your chest? For pity sake, you’re in the
    room aren’t you?

  • Anonymous

Nope, he’s tasted a handful of wines twice now, though I can’t think of any others off the top of my head.

  • Awesome stuff, Gary, and lovely guest. I am a new (Ecuadorian) fan who lives on a rock (Cyprus) in the Med Sea. Keep up the great work reaching out to wine lovers!

  • ALLAN

    Top something…..?…..

Superb, still, Gary, despite what others have commented, i still think your interview skills are in top form. Good job.

One of my favourite shows of all time.! Definitely.

Qotd: I look for you, Maria; Truth & Passion

    ๐Ÿ™‚

  • castello

    QOTD: Deliciousity!

  • Thnx Allan ๐Ÿ™‚

    QOTD: a full bottle

Maria, if you send us some of your family’s wine we will be happy to taste it at Christmas too (blind, of course). Geographically speaking Haro is practically the Idaho of Spain!

  • ALLAN

    Dats not even a word dude….. ๐Ÿ˜›

  • ALLAN

    mmmmmmm…… BEER…… *drool*

    :0P

  • Leo

Iยดm not really a wine lover, but this interview is awesome. When you get two people talking about things they love and really know, you can enjoy the conversation and just appreciate… Thanks you two!

  • ALLAN

Yo, G your welcome, keep bringing THE THUNDER!!!

  • Adam C

I want a wine that makes me happy the second I stick my nose in the glass. Great show Gary, I would love to visit that winery. How could you not lover her! I havent been watching for very long, but cant stop now. Making up for lost time I guess. I love what you are doing here. Time to pour my Chinon I have sitting next to the computer. Cheers!

  • Jasonbcarey

you should have discussed wines from NE spain..
    so for the Sherry show
Sierra Mastro 1/14 100 year old oloroso

  • Jasonbcarey

Bosconia reminds me of Burgundy many times.

Thank You Gary for a DEEELightful Guest. I don’t know how you get these people to come and sitdown with you, but you will have to enlighten us someday on the inner workings of snagging this type of guest.

QOTD: I go for the Full Bodied, Long Legged, with nice Tannins leaning toward the dryer side.

  • Liked the way this finished. Another memorable two-part episode.
Once I save my shekels I will have an amazing Spanish wine trip!

QOTD:I am looking for complexity, something that makes it markedly different and hopefully memorable.

  • Eirikpm

QOTD: For me it`s all about balance! Wine is just like food, you need balance ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Tytiger58

Wow great show! newb from Cali here, this show impressed me so much I ran out and found two of the wines at KL and will have them with Thanksgiving if not sooner ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks!

  • Nicolo

Long time lurker brought out by the best guest you’ve ever had. And I DO think that she brought out the best in you.

QOTD: Personality. I might not even like the taste, but if it’s got genuine personality; I still love it.

  • Eirikpm

And by the way, I just bought a white Viรฑa Tondonia Reserva 1992 two days ago! ๐Ÿ˜€ And after this show I`m really looking forward to try it!

QOTD: I look for balance and pleasant flavour(s)
Maria Jose was a wonderful guest and your hosting was impeccable!!

  • DaveAll

Great 2nd part – great guest, real charmer is right! I could hear her say “Spicy” a million times! Keep up the great episodes, Gary! She’s right, local Tapas in Spain are great.

Hey, GV, I’m in NYC Dec 9-12 – what is best way to get to WL? is it far?
QotD, Maria, I like all grape types, so I look for a great nose. Then I look for a great finish. If I find those, the rest is fine. I seek out local wines in North Carolina – and a few are as good as imports. (most are not)

  • Mike Nierychlo

Great Episode Gary! super stoked to meet her when she is here in Vancouver next week.

    QOTD: “TRUTH”

  • TheSmirkingLurker

    GARY:

OH. MY. GOD. I LOVE LOVE LOVE her. She is wonderful.

    Thanks for the show.

  • Dustimus

QOTD:I look for chewiness and mouthfeel most of all. Second I look for the flavors to blend together perfectly. I don’t like when one flavor overpowers the rest.
