90/100

Lines of the day – ‘Sardine juice meets raspberry juice’ and ‘I’m a huge fan of red radish – Lizzie gets mad because I eat ’em then burp a little and it smells terrible.’

Like the wines, GV gets a bit funky before the Jets big game.

  • TSL headed to Pitt, special occasion 😉

  • First-time viewer on Virgin America @ 35,000 feet, didn’t want to be a lurker, then saw the closing URL. Wait I’m a huge Wine Library buyer! The dots now connected b/w the show and my wine buying and leaving a comment … Loved the Armagnac show. Prefer stronger, deeper, more rustic Armagnac to Cognac. Very educational. Thanks!

Dude, the most impressive thing about you is that you just keep being you. You continue to bring the passion and make wine fun. Everyone that is talking about creating a brand and all the grandiose plans and production, I just tell them to chill and go to WLTV. You still scare them so then I send them to my site to look at my lame ass at wildthingsseafood and then they understand. Go Jets!

The tight shows are good but when we do the Customer Appreciation Episodes we have to be loose so all your potential customers are not intimidated and can relate with their own wine experiences.
Jets 24 Pitt 17 GO JETS!!!

It’s all good. Bring it on.

I knows it. But, I still have to fart in your general direction.

QOTD: I thought this format was OK. I didn’t like the one-wine shows, but as long as you’re tasting 2-4 & the show is 10+ minutes, it’s fine. <10 & there just isn't enough content.

I hope your Jets are victorious Sunday & face my Packers in the Super Bowl!

Anyone that doesn’t have time to watch whatever length show you have, isn’t into wine.
Your Jets fanaticism has made me a fan, unless they were playing the Hawks.
Do the shows as you feel like doing them.

Many of the 03 Bordeaux are falling apart….

I remember you tasting the 2004 Clos les Lunelles way back in the pre-episode 500 days. You hated it! You were ANGRY after tasting that much wood up in your grill-piece!

QOTD: Just be yourself G. Your passion & honesty are why people keep coming back. They’re not finding it elsewhere in the wine world. Personally, I dig the shows where lots of knowledge, and opinion, are dropped. That, and brown bags.

Here’s a random thought: compare a more ‘classic’ vintage vs. a massive/blockbuster/hyped vintage from a particular region. Could be interesting. Is that hyped vintage really worth 2x, 3x or 4x the price of it’s ‘classic’ counterpart?

Good luck this weekend! I’ll be pulling for the Jets.

Maybe you should have scored that wine 43 points (I know that doesn’t work on our 100 point scale) as a tribute after you took a jab at Troy. You could have used it as a peace offering so he doesn’t go loco on your boys.

I like the 12-15 minute shows, this was even a little under. I think you can usually get the message across in that much time. I don’t mind the occasional longer or shorter show though.

Prediction, Sanchez finally falls on his face in the playoffs. Pittsburgh 27 – New York 16.

    Still love you dude.

    Yours,

    B.S.

GOOD POINT…MENDOZA LINE EQUATES TO “MEDICORE” HITTING IN BASEBALL.

  • I like the tight shows..
Gary, BTW, don’t eat charred foods.. too many carcinogens. Just want to keep you healthy. 🙂

  • I like the shorter shows when it is just you reviewing wines but when you have a guest, it should be 30 minutes since there is more to talk about. People’s attention spans are shorter now and people have less time to put into recreation because of work and family so I think 10 minutes is great. Good Luck to your Jets!

  • Randall

How did I Know you were going to reply in this fashion, Lisa S?
    🙂
p.s. Charred steaks, tuna, veggies, blackened Cajun catfish, etc… Mm mmm, good…
    :D!!

Wholly? And if wine nerds turn ya off, you must hate GV! ;->

  • Randall

Do you mean Kurt Weil? (pronounced “vile”) Maybe I’m too old and unhip…

Galloni reports for The Wine Advocate, not WS. I don’t read or recommend the WS, it’s more a coffee table book than a serious wine journal (IMO). Like NWIndianaDan above, now MY head hurts!

  • Randall

Coming from someone who DARES to post their tasting notes, knowing that they might be subject to the mockery of others, I must say that I don’t think NWIndianaDan was turned off by the info, just the overload of self-congratulatory opinions…
    That is all…

  • Randall

    Not always, my friend…
    Well, ok, sometimes…
    :D!!

  • Randall

    Good info, my friend…

    Ridiculous! That’s his toupee!

Dis…a…ppointing. What can you do? The wines just didn’t show well today. As for this Sunday, I haven’t decided whether I am going to root for your Jets after my Pats had a terrible game last week. I STILL don’t want to think about it, let alone talk about it. In the end I may be in the Jets’ corner this week, if only for you, GV.

QOTD: Tighter, to the point episodes every once in a while are welcome. I think it’s all about the balance; switching it up here and there, a couple of longer guest episodes in between some shorter, focused episodes.

  • QOTD: I prefer you did whatever format you feel like doing best. As long as you’re feeling it, it will be good and that’s why we come back. Oh and Go Steelers.

Would you rather I say Holy? This crap is not sacred or maybe in your case it is. Where as wholly discribes all of this or the whole crap. 😉

Randall, you must be in my head man!

    🙁 Disgust

    Damn It, Disgust!

Randall, you must be in my head man!

I apologize Randell. Hopefully you’ll read this, it is in response to your having my back with audiofan.

I was a lurker for a long time. Joined this forum finally to engage knowledgeable persons such as yourself and to talk and learn more about wine. Enjoyed the debate! 🙂

Did the format of the Podcasts change? They will no longer sync with iTunes/Ipod Touch. Checked all of iTunes and other podcasts sync.

    Back to the wine…

I am a big fan of the 2005 Clos Les Lunelles. Smoother and a little more balanced.

  • @Randall Ha! Life is short… don’t make it shorter by eating charred meat. Blackened OK, but charred meat is especially bad for you. Don’t you want to live longer so that you can drink more wine? End of lecture. Cheers!

  • Randall

As Mott says, the only way to really be sure to lose most of the problems with Disgust is to surf using Firefox (the latest version) or Chrome…

  • Randall

    :D!! Too funny!
Maybe SGV will be ensconced behind the huge “Pontifical Friday Desk”…

  • John__J

qotd: it’s fine, but not preferred ALL the time. It’s all about variety and switching things up.

  • Don Simpson

Devastating wines but SUPERB ending! I’m rooting for the Jets too because I would also enjoy (1) Gary losing his mind, and (2) Thunder Shows from Dallas

QOTD: Definitely like the tight shows, balances out the longer guests shows nicely. I also enjoy the shows where you break out the big-a$$ glass, and of course the blind tastings.

  • QOTD: Short Format<Brown Bags.. What does K-Murph got for us? Biggest game of our lifetimes tomorrow. JETS 24-20.

I’m having a great weekend. I’ve got a Bordeaux that I’m going to open here shortly. 😉 Hope your having a great weekend. 😉

the setup is classic WLTV. the big ass glass. no guest. love it. wheres the FRIDAY couch days . now THAT i miss. p.s. i think you need to remind the people how big that glass really is and the fact it can fit an entire bottle.

  • RobinC

QOTD: Short is good for me right now.

  • Randall

No… but I’ve hit a 100+ mph CURVE in the Jag and didn’t even hardly notice it…
Thank God the Poe-Poe didn’t notice it either…
    :D!!

  • No, he obviously derived his name from the famous composer but he is his own interesting rock ‘n roller. Randall, may I suggest you listen to this track:

  • Dude… Nat King Cole is soooo special. His lyrical style is quite amazing. I will need to look into those. I have a lot of his sessions. One set I always love hearing is Cole Espanol–famous latin music being butchered in the most beautiful way. Sensational singer. Have a great weekend home skillet!

  • Randall

Cool. I am SO finished with rock and roll, especially ‘David Byrne’-type rock, but, hey… to each his own… I would still suggest that you check out the MYRIAD different versions of dozens of Mr. Weill’s songs (in all different types of musical styles…)
