EP 975 Beaune Wine Tasting

Gary Vaynerchuk tastes 3 different Beaune reds from Burgundy, on the suggestion of a Vayniac. This region is in the heart of Burgundy and makes great values for a region known for its expensive wines.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Dubois Chorey Les Beaune Clos MargotBeaune White or Red
1996 Maillard Savigny Les BeauneBeaune White or Red
2008 Chateau De Chorey Beaune Les TeuronsBeaune White or Red

95/100

Lines of the day, Mott, ‘That’s just Awful.’ GV, ‘That’s just like you and I became New Teenage Ninja Turtles, picked up the manhole, went down there and it was like sewer city.’

Hilarious episode full of different ways to describe stinkiness (including ‘a rhino just farted’)

Also notable for a rare swear word having to be bleeped out

Great stuff

How about Wimbledon Center court doing Maria Sharapova with a full stadium. Oh the forehand smashes, the aces, the foot fouls, the strawberries and cream and she could do all her famous grunting she wanted, all on natural grass. Now lets come back to reality. ๐Ÿ˜›

QOTD: I’d be in the owner’s box at the Consol Energy Center with Mario Lemieux (who by the way is not only more knowledgeable about wine but also a better hockey player than Gretz) having many samples from his ridiculous cellar.

I love the knowledge you give us each day. Thanks very much!

    Yours,

    B.S.

Great show about one of my favorite wine regions. QOTD: Wine Library of coarse ๐Ÿ™‚ My second choice would be having a great Burgandy on the International Space Station.

QOTD: I would love to be in the locker room with Mike Tomlin to present the game ball to him and be involved in the after Super Bowl party after my Steelers win SB XLV. Ive been to a Super Bowl to see them win but this would crank it up a notch!

    QOTD:
I have a dream that one day the lurker nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all lurkers are created equal.”

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Lurkerville, the sons of former lurkers and the sons of former ‘thank you economists’ will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Winelibraria, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of lurker-oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little lurkers will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by their lack of transparency but by the content of their character.

–That is where I want to be.

You have inspired me… I will have to go have a burg tonight!! They looked very delicious!

    QOTD:
While not pinpoint specific, I would love to seek out some of my relatives in the old country(s) and sit down with them and have a beautiful bottle of wine (or just drink their irish whiskey).

  • Good show Gary, my few lurking days are over! This home wine maker appreciates the knowledge! I’m sitting on a case of 06 Latour Volnay 1er Cru and wonder how the wines in today’s show would compare…

Would love you to bring the show to my local winery Coopers Hawk!

  • QOTD – For me: Vosne Romanee. I think it would be awesome if you took the show on the road and I think a stop in our nation’s capital would be a cool place to do a show, like by one of the monuments or on the steps of the capital. I am partial though, I live in DC.

  • Ya he is awesome this year. We need Sid and Geno to come back

  • I like the show’s topic. I’m not versed enough in Burgundy to really worry about different regions/vinyards just yet, but I’m always on the hunt for great value (at any price point) pinot from that neck of the woods.

QOTD: Tough one… Probably in Minka Kelly’s bed (minus Derek Jeter).

Thought it was a great show!! I went to Beaune last May, and was blown away by the vino!! I visited Bouchard Winery while I was there.
QTOD: I would love to be back in Beaune, drinking the great wines of that region. I absolutely loved it there!!

oh Burgundy, Burgundy, Burgundy… GV I love how your show is aimed to all wine fans and not just the super wine geeks (although I have been known to geek it up from time to time ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

Watching you taste the Beaune Les Teurons reminded me of my first great Burgundy. As much as I enjoy Beaune, this was a sexy, silky Vosne Romanee called La Colombiere, and I enjoyed it with a braised duck gnocchi and cherry sauce in a tiny little restaurant with a good friend (side note- how freaking awesome are memories like this?).

Anyway, to answer the QOTD, if I had a time machine, I’d travel back to that moment and enjoy that wine, food and company all over again. Since I don’t, I know this may sound random, but I have always wanted to go to Madagascar. Just seems like an interesting place!

Woww, this episode were insanely good.

Great, great show today Gary. And kudos to KMurph for picking these wines. You got a solid value play, an aged stink bomb, and an elegant young wine that drinking well now. Good stuff. QOTD: I would like to be dropped off in the heart of Tokyo.

  • QOTD: So many, but if it had to be one place it’s Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto, Japan.

    Gary:

Coming off the loss this weekend, you’ve managed to produce some fantastic shows that don’t suck. This episode was A) fun to watch, B) educational, and C) like the old days – the fire was there. Here’s the thing, there’s a lot you can still teach your viewers about classic wines and classic regions. Beyond classic though, I’d love for you to revisit NY State Rieslings. Let’s get the acid going. Razor blade to the tongue!

QoTD: Get yourself to the bottom of the world, Patagonia. Go to Chile, go south into the Tores del Paine (a park), go to the base of the Tores, and see magnificent views like this: http://www.concierge.com/images/destinations/destinationguide/latinamerica/chile/patagonia/patagonia_003p.jpg

  • John__J

Your body language when you mentioned the “cherry popping” and textbook” etc. after you tasted the Chorey Les Beaune had me cracking up.
Qotd: great question, and one I’m sure would change after I gave it more thought but, I just saw Planet Earth again on Blu-Ray and I’d love to see the Aurora Australis down in Antarctica (I know that’s not man made.) So for man made I wouldn’t mind seeing that structure or ancient civilization that predates the pyramids and is apparently the first known civilization they’ve discovered now that’s now underwater off the coast of Japan. I imagine it’ll be hard to do shows from those locations though. But it would be really “radool” if you did.

How about doing a show out in the library??? I liked it when you went out with the camera and showed us briefly the “gallery”…thought that was awesome !!!

Hm, maybe I should give Pinot Noir another chance… I had already made up my mind that I just don’t like that varietal… But maybe I should try more… ๐Ÿ™‚
QOTD: I would like to climb to the top of one of the Egyptian pyramids and then watch the sunset from up there…

QOTD: Hmmm, well I would say that the one place I can think of that would pair well with an episode is the Farmer’s Market in Downtown San Luis Obispo, California on Thursday nights. Especially in early April. The weather is warm enough during the daytime, but has a crisp edge to it as the night rolls along, the downtown area is gorgeous, and the streets are lined for blocks with college students and locals buying food and beverages from locally owned and operated farms. You can buy anything from baked goods to freshly picked strawberries, to, strangely enough, BBQ artichoke which is so juicy and sticky it just wants to fall apart in your hands.

  • saw your last Lurker challenge….still working on it. ๐Ÿ™‚
