Gary Vaynerchuk tastes 3 different Beaune reds from Burgundy, on the suggestion of a Vayniac. This region is in the heart of Burgundy and makes great values for a region known for its expensive wines.

Wines tasted in this episode:

1996 Maillard Savigny Les BeauneBeaune White or Red

95/100

Lines of the day, Mott, ‘That’s just Awful.’ GV, ‘That’s just like you and I became New Teenage Ninja Turtles, picked up the manhole, went down there and it was like sewer city.’

Hilarious episode full of different ways to describe stinkiness (including ‘a rhino just farted’)

Also notable for a rare swear word having to be bleeped out

Great stuff

PINOT PINOT PINOT NOIR FROM BURGUNDY. WHATS NOT TO LIKE? (except the prices sometimes). My favorite red wine in the whole world. More pinot…

QOTH: I wanna go to the best restaurant in the world: NOMA. Its in Copenhagen. Less than 10 km away, and I can’t get a f… table. Decided to go to restaurant Geranium in April, and today the chef, Rasmus Kofoed, became the best chef in the world (gold at Bocuse d’Or). Copenhagen dining rocks- and I wanna be a part of it- and I am πŸ™‚

Hey GV, I was just saying the other day that I’m buying way too much Napa/Sonoma and way too little Rhone/Bordeaux!!! Loved the episode and glad to be back!!!

By the way. Great question of the day. What may yours be?

Lengths just right at the moment, with the odd extended and more in depth ones.

  • Went to beaune when i was younger and wish i had been old enough to appreciate the vineyards abit more.

QOTD: Got to be Everest base camp, amazing views

Great show as always, Gary! You definitely brought some serious thunder….almost like Zeus. These wines would go well with an earthy cigar. Maybe a Bolivar or H. upmann.

Excellent choice going with Beaune. Since learning about this town, I have admired the auction of The Hospices. So maybe a trip to HΓ΄tel-Dieu should be on my list of places to visit.

QOTD: Tough one, but if I had to pick I’d go with Havana, Cuba. Right in the heart. To see buildings still standing since the Revolution and to visit each cigar factory (Partagas, Upmann, El Laguito, etc.),would be a dream come true. And top it off by staying at the Hotel NacΓonal. Ahhhh….

    Gary,

Thank you so much for the comment. It means a lot to me. A good episode, and will look for Pinot Noir from France. As usual, in my little neck of the world they are sometimes hard to find but fun to look for. The joy is in the quest.

QOTD – There are so many places but if I had to choose only one that would be Cooperstown Ohio, the baseball Hall of Fame.

Again I thank you for the recognition, but you make it easy to stay connected.

It looks stunning… and the women in the photo’s do too!

Imagine standing in that vineyard next to that tower…..breathtaking!

Good show. Glad to see you are back from the dredges. QOTD – I was thinking the Great Wall of China, but that is huge so I cannot be specific about a spot. So how about the skywalk at the Grand Canyon? Now that might be a cool place to film an episode.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Haha, you hit the nail on the head….Wine Library! Almost said the same thing.

First of all, if you’re serious about taking the show on the road may I suggest a visit to the great white north? Vancouver – home of the 2010 Olympic hockey champions is absolutely craving a visit from the big G himself.

QOTD – two places (1) WineLibrary (2) Mount Kilimanjaro

    What’s up, Pete!

  • Great show, Gary!

QOTD: The top of any big mountain.

Also, if you could, respond to a poor CKCer’s email! πŸ˜›

  • Great show, Gary.

QOTD: The top of any big mountain. I haven’t been to many, so I’m not too picky, its just such an experience though to be up there.

Also, Gary, answer a poor CKCer’s email! πŸ˜›

  • Great sode Gary. Most important tidbit: save the rhino fart Burg for the diplomats (politicians as well). Love the Pinot episodes, we need an Oregon redemption episode.

QOTD: My wife says machu picchu, and that works for me also, I’ve dragged her on too many wine vacations to disagree on this one.

LOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEE Burgundy wines, probably how I fell in love with wine after spanish wines got me to start drinking wine, Burgundy sold me on the idea, Cote de Nuits is indeed quite expensive but cote de Beaune has some jewels for much better prices and if that Teurons is as good as Gary seems to think its a killer for a 93 point 50$ Burgundy is not easy to find.

Anyways on to the question, I don’t wanna sound corny or like I have a man crush but the wine library is up there and you know I’m coming down from Canada soon, just gotta make sure I run into Gary some way to at least say hi.
Otherwise, the last couplke of years all my travels have been to wine regions and although I’m not the biggest fan of their wines northern Rhone with the steep hills like Cote-Rotie sounds like a great place to visit.

Great show! I attended a Burgundy seminar back in November which was a really exciting learning experience. I still find them quite pricey, but I was able to start buying a few that I like.

QOTD: Navarra, in the north mountains of Medellin, Columbia. Going there this summer. Suppose I could have picked a wine or sports location, but where is the fun in being predictable?

Fascinating show. Not familiar with the Beaune, so it is interesting to see 3 wines from the same small appellation with such a diverse set of described tastes.

Great show. You gotta love the Burgundy!!
QOTD: A secluded beach on the island of Kauai, drinking Krug Rose. Enjoying the tasting menus(with wine pairings) at Per Se or any Mario Batali restaurant–Cafe Mona? Lastly, open access to Wine Library, including the Gourmet section for 30 days straight, and 30 more paid vacation days to recover from the good times. Difficult to narrow down to one place or establishment….

    Great show Gary.

QOTD: One place. Cupertino, CA to sit in Mr. Jobs chair. Get well soon Steve !

  • CKC checking in! Great show GV! You were on it with the descriptions. I was dying when you got to the rhino fart! I also loved the sewer water disruption description, what a great way to explain a flurry of smells coming at your nose. QOTD: Mt Everest here for me, something about the tallest place on earth really drives me visit… and then snowboard down it.

QOTD for you: I’ve only been watching since around 600 but I can’t remember a wine you scored above 95, what is the highest score you have given on the thunder show?? Seemed like le tuerons deserved a bit more of a score, damn those Steelers!

  • I’ve been watching and enjoying your show for about three weeks now, which is how long I guess I’ve been lurking and I want to say that I really enjoy your show. I’m a craft beer guy and I’ve been really big into that for a few years and I’ve just started getting into wine these past six months. Thanks, your show has been great in helping me in how to approach wine from enjoying the different styles and what to look for in the wines.

QOTD: I would really like to go to Sydney. Not just because Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon’s are my favorite styles of wine thus far and I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve had from Australia, but that’s a good reason to want to go.

Question for you, I’ve looked through your past shows (correct me if I’m wrong please) and I’ve noticed you haven’t done an episode on Missouri wines. I’m from Missouri and I’ve been trying a lot that the state has to offer, it’s a little too sweet for my palate but I was just curious on your take of Show Me State wines. Thanks.

Agree on the food pairing comment. Got a difficult pairing coming up tomorrow when i’ll be making spaghetti carbonara.. πŸ™ I’m thinking about some new world syrah, (old world might overpower the food), any suggestions?
