Line of the day, Sasha – ‘I nailed it’ Gary ‘No – you agreed with Robert Parker’

Good show – I like the way Gary has so much more knowledge and insight into the wines tasted but doesn’t make Sasha feel bad for not knowing so much. Classy

Gary should wear a tie. Even the hippies of the 60’s finally conformed. come on. smile. Do you really think Gary at age 60 will be wearing a colored t-shirt? really?
I like your dad, good show. Nice dress shirt!

QotD: St: 21, Pac: 14. all in 2nd half. I’m practicing tail gating in my cul-de-sac! I call it cul-de-gating (tail-de-sac was taken). Gonna catch on, I know it.

What a great show; I had tears in my eyes. God bless you both.

Oh where, oh where is Charlotte my sweet Dane? I know this is Cab Sauv and not Pinot, yet that should not keep you away from us. I long for those sweet melodic prose. Sigh. 🙁

Visit Hendry Ranch . George Hendry is lengendary. It was the highlight of our trip in September.

Excellent stuff. You could feel the love. Pretty good wine, too.

    Happy Birthday to Mrs. rwino!

  • My three favorites on the show.. Sasha, Napa cabs and brown bags! Thanks, Gary.
I like Shafer and would probably like the other two since I like Caymus. Agree with Dominus and Shasha… difficult to drink cabs without food.
    QOTD: Green Bay
PS: What was the name of the Sauvignon Blanc that Sasha loved?

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Hmmm, don’t care. Sasha’s Devils are racing my Sens for the 1st draft pick. The Devils gotta get rid of Lou, he’s the problem.

People complaining about lack of food, but I think that is exactly why you taste without food, because food modifies the wine. You taste it without, and decide from there what to do about the food. But that’s just my thought on the matter.

    YESSS!

  • Sasha is always a hit.

    QOTD: Green Bay will win.

Have to go with the state I was born in and predict Steelers.

Enjoyed the ep, but non of the wines seemed as if they would wow me. More interested in what cheeses you ate, lol. mmmm…..cheese

  • Your Dad is great and it’s nice to see father and son together.
    QOTD: Green Bay
    I really enjoyed the show.

They’re not trying to hide anything; plenty of profound 100% Cab Sauv’s out there. Many producers blend Petite Verdot, Cab Franc, Merlot, and even Malbec to produce a Bordeaux-blend (Meritage) style wine…like a chef adding certain spices to make the dish (hopefully) more complex and appealing.

Love the brown bags, love Cabernet, love the guest. Great episode.

But now I really, really, really want cheese and I have none in the house.

Great show! Love it when Sasha makes an appearance – hope he’s on episode #1000!

I am definitely pulling for Green Bay, and hoping big time for Rodgers to come through. Brett who??? I hate the Steelers.

    – John D.

  • I’s been a while since I’ve tried a Cabernet… would love some of that Swiss cheese though.

    QOTD: Steelers.

Gary, Wonderful Show. Sasha should be a regular. I am glad he does not spit that great wine out 🙂 So when are you going to come and have one of the best steaks in NYC? Come to good old Brooklyn and we will take you to Prime Meats. Ribeye heaven with a Napa Cab. Get more El Nido we cleaned you out the other night.

  • John__J

It’s always an absolute joy when Sasha’s on the show. Cool to see him participate in a blind tasting this time around.
I was ready for Sasha to try an ask a political question again this time to Gary’s dismay.
qotd: GREEN BAY all the way

as a recent Chicago emigre I predict with objectivity but no affection – Pack, not a rout but not a nail biter neither. They’ll dominate. They’ll win. And then…’Glee’

Oh and keep the t shirts Gary. Leave the ties for SIR Gary

QOTD: GO PACK GO!!! I’m a huge Packers fan, so of course they’re taking the title!

  • Nice show you guys! Always nice to see Sasha in a tie. Looks sharp dad! I thought Justin deserved more of a thank you for delivering the cheese platter. You gotta give that guy more credit unless he was technically late or something. I mean he’s family. Otherwise good show. GREEN BAY BY A SAFETY!… A super bowl for the ages.

Great episode. I always enjoy it when your father is on the program. Good information and excellent scoring for the both of you.

QOTD – Pulling for the Packers!

With all due respect, do you also dislike classed-growth Bordeaux? Oak is not the problem, it’s too much oak, but like tannins, acidity, and fruit, it needs to be in balance. Some wines (from California as well as elsewhere) will absorbe the oak with a little cellar time. Having said that, the big, oak-dominated cuvees such as Silver Oak, Caymus, etc, continue to be extremely popular with a certain segment of the wine-drinking public, especially those who lack patience and insist on drinking their Cabernet
    young.

Great show today. Best moment was when Sasha nailed the price of the Shafer and then the debate about “doing well” and agreeing with Parker. I always enjoy the shows with father and son.

I agree with latour90 that a family show would be perfect for the 1000th episode.

    QOTD: Steelers

I love it when you dad is on. Great interaction between you and Sasha. You get no frills delicious is good. Gary the last wine scored 89 but what was the reason for it. I also knew food would come.

QOTD: Pittsburg will win but I don’t like them. Defense will win it for them.

  • Your Dad was a great guest. I really like the brown bag shows. Napa Cab is the big time with a big pricetag. What about some Cab or big reds from Arizona?

  • Anonymous

Love the show, and love cabernet.

You guys nailed the price points, but I think your prices are too high!

Also would love to try the cheeses that you enjoyed on the show, but the names are so elusive and unfamiliar, no clue…..

    Thank you.

Packers. Cool show. That’s really funny about your Dad’s palate changing with time. I think we can all relate. I guess RP palate is heavy on new world these days huh? Those were some bomb scores by them. Keep whirling. How about a giveaway on the 1000th show of a big ass glass actually used on the show with some packaged cheese and a wine. :-/

  • nice episode GV. love the father/soness, whole-lotta-love. it was fun.

    Sasha! Nice. Nas Drovia!

  • Great to see Sasha back on the show. (Bring him back for #1000.)
    QOTD: Green Bay
