Great episode on tasting value wines! Loved how different wines from around the world were explored.

It's nice to see quality doesn't always mean high price.

Do you have a favorite budget wine pick from this list?

  • My Verizon iPhone is being delivered today! Excited to be on board, finally!

Chinon sounds like another interesting region to delve into. I recently started tasting Beaujolais and found them to be great lighter wines that really surprised me.

  • I do not have a Iphone or a Ipad. Yet. Much anticipation for the next book in the Vaner series.

Loved the blooper reel! I’m 91 points on that. Seriously, how could you not have poked fun at Suckling by dropping a “I’m xx points on that” on this episode, even if none of the wines made his new 90-points threshold? In fact, this whole episode should not exist, because none of the wines were 90 points, and to Suckling no wine <90 is worthy of existing or being reviewed.

QOTD No I'm a Droid guy. Just curious why you ask?

QOTD: Nope! no iPhone, no iPad!

  • I choked on my coffee over the “Mott smoking a lot of pot” comment. Great episode.

    QOTD: Nope on both

  • Anonymous

There were lots of good ones today- “If this were the 1960s version, Mott would be smoking a lot of pot & I still would not be talking about merlot” –I’m 95 points on that!

  • @Randall – That’s what she….so how about those Packers? 😛

  • Cheers Gary, no Ietc, Android Nation here, Galaxy Tab! Bloopers reel was f u u n n y!

  • All together now, “Glory, glory halleleujah, the Steelers lost!” Congrats to the Packer Nation. But someone needs to deport Christine Aguilera. Abominable rendition of Star Spangled Banner.

Great show my man, alot of energy and agree wholeheartedly about the white wines from SA. They are quite good and one needs an “acquired taste” for Pinotage. Talk about “sheep’s butt”!

QOTD: Yes: iPhone though switching to verizon soon and No: iPad. Santa was not good to me. It was on my list. 🙁

    Cheers!

P.S. Make sure to make a trip the the DC area for your book tour.

Great show. We had a Tenat a while ago; we need to seek it out again.

QOTD: My husband and I have iPhones.

I have an iphone. My fiance hates it. “Gary Vonerchuk” – James Suckling

    QOTD: no ipad, no iphone

Participated in a wine tasting yesterday and found some Brazilian suprises! The producer was Salton (supposedly the 2nd largest producer?) and his Tannat and his white blend (Gewürtztraminer, Malvassia et Moscato Giallo) was pretty good as well. Haven’t had many surprising wines from Uruguay yet!

  • iPhone Yes // iPad No.

  • John__J

I’m assuming with the 1000th coming up that we may get another highlight reel.

I’d like to make one suggestion if one is done: Do a mash up of different QOTD’s to create an entirely NEW QOTD that can be answered at the end of the reel.

  • There is a particular Tannat that is not too shabby, from a winery called Punta Del Cielo, also from Uruguay; if you can find it, give it a try…

    QOTD: Yes, iPhone.

    No iPhone…No iPad

  • CKC here, University of Minnesota. First time commenting although I’ve been watching the show on and off for about a month. I studied abroad in Barcelona last spring and was able to explore many different wines from all over Spain and Europe. Needless to say, I’m now hooked and have become very passionate about wine. Also very excited to be a part of the Vayner Nation! Would love to see a show on wines from Catalonia, or more specifically the Empordà region of Catalonia. Doing some interesting things over there.

No Ipod, No Iphone, No IPad, No I anything. Not a fan of Steve Jobs, an original pirate of silicon valley. Too much “It’s Us and No One Else” mentality. Yes, Gates is one of those pirates, but his software can be used by all. I’m waiting for the GV Tablet to come on the market 🙂 Crush It.

I’m an engineer, not a hippie. I have a Droid 2. ah, that sounded harsh, let me try again. i’m a left brainer, not a right brainer. (better?) No iPad either, still like the power and POWER of a high power, little (12″) laptop with 11 hour battery. works for me. :* ) Prefer to write in my paperbacks, not drag a Kindle around either. :*) :*) (TMI?)
    Good strong show! loved it!
CKC – Wake Tech Community, NC – Culinary Arts – returned to college last month after retiring! (woohoo. ) hmm, not a kid, though.

I’ve got some friends that like the Nederburg Cab (Paarl). I believe it’s a value wine. I’ve got a bottle of 1987 that I picked up in the late 80’s on Ascension Island. Probably will not open…

  • Ready for the New Book Tour. My Wife and all three of my kid’s have iPhones. I am looking to delay my upgrade and go for iPad.

  • QOTD: YES (iPhone 4, no iPad)

  • Anonymous

Nope, no iphone or ipad here. Although the girlfriend has an iphone.

  • Loved the Von-ner-chuk episode… I’ve never seen that and it was fantastic!

Not sure I can claim the kid part of CKC (finishing up a second round of grad school in Philly this spring), but I am a student and a fan of cheap and interesting wine.

Latest discovery is an $11 Vinho Verde Tinto, which is in the PA state system now — Quinta De Gomariz Vinho Verde Vinhao 2008. One of the most interesting wines I’ve tried. The nose is all barnyard, but the greenness coupled with slight frizzante and a tart finish somehow works for my palate. It’s an odd duck for sure, but well worth the price if only to try something completely different.

And a quick note 2009 Loire reds. I’ve been extremely impressed with the 3 different 2009 Loire cab francs I’ve tried so far — two from Saumur and one Bourgueil. None were overly green, but all had enough Loire cab franc character to keep my interest. Maybe it was a good year or maybe I’ve just been lucky.

    QOTD: I have an iPhone.

  • John__J

I think that was a play off the link at the bottom where Gary’s interviewed at WLTV

QOTD: My verizon iphone arrives tomorrow! Our household is 100% mac.
I am a big fan of Cabernet Franc. My husband and I fell in love with Cab Franc back in the 80’s while barrel tasting at Christian Brothers (when they were still in the beautiful Greystone). Thanks to you Gary, we are now enjoying France’s Chinon!

No iPhone, no iPad, I’m iChallenged! AT&T never had good service where I live, so it wasn’t an option till just now. I did get a samsung fascinate droid a few months ago, and I absolutely love it! Bring back the shoutouts Gary! Or the random comment readings!

  • Lurker coming out.

Gary I’m from Mexico, I love what you do. How about trying some mexican wines?

QOTD: None. My girlfriend has the iPhone, does that count?

Keep up the good work Gary!

  • Anonymous

Indeed it was pretty nice, although you can see a major clash in Gary’s style vs Suckling’s…

  • John__J

If you can find the SA pinotage from Bosman, I recommend it. A bit more higher end but def worth it. proved to me pinotage can do a lot more than “rubber tire”

  • Neil McNamara

    QOTD: No & No.

  • John__J

I agree, another area for wine to start looking out for

WOW, I JUST SAY WOW. This show was awesome. France and South Africa I love, and so much fun to hear about new areas and great that U mentioned the sparklings from Brazil again. can’t wait to see whats gonna happen with those. And gossip girl, well I’m addicted, and on top of that I got to see more wine tasting “Gary Von ner chuk” Love it. And yes, its easy to see that U are back in the game. The wines did not show the very best, but U managed to make it a good show anyhow. Big fan.
    QOTD: No

I love South Africa. They are very cheap and very good. Like both the red and whites. But like U, just forget them sometimes.

  • Anonymous

    WHAT? Gossip girl rocks.

  • QOTD: No, but good proucts, just over priced. Expecially since you can get Andriod equivilents for half the price.

I have an iphone and soon will have an ipad and YES I would love some sort of WLTV App!!!! Looking for a good cellar management app!!

  • neither, not a Luddite but don’t live the lifestyle of mad tech, also tend to edge away from any product that is “over hyped” I grew up as part of the first generation of TV watchers and think I may be callused to advertising.

  • My wife has an iPhone and iPad yet I don’t. Since we’re Verizon customers I’m still on a bb but will probably switch over in the next 12 months.
