Great episode on tasting value wines! Loved how different wines from around the world were explored.

It's nice to see quality doesn't always mean high price.

Do you have a favorite budget wine pick from this list?

Are Chinon’s normally drank at a younger age? I’m going to keep my eye out for that one.

“Fish smells from the head…” Lol! That’s a new one on me! But yes, your energy is back up to the level of your mid-to-late 2007 episodes! Very impressive tasting video with James Suckling- sweet. He seems like such a nice guy.
QOTD: iPhone, yes; iPad, waiting and watching

    Who doesn’t love value wines?

I haven’t tasted more than a handful of S African wines–an inexpensive Gewurztraminer Late-Harvest, a few Pinotage, and a Cabernet. Interesting wines, but nothing too memorable. I’m willing to try more S African wines, but only if someone else is paying.

Still haven’t bought a Chinon or other Loire red; did sample a few at the Boston Wine Expo. Good stuff. Too bad my store doesn’t carry any Chinon at the moment.

Tannat? Tasted two–Pueblo Del Sol (or something similar) from Uruaguay at around $8.00 and a French blend, about 85% Tannat / 15%. Both very serviceable wines. Good enough I’d be willing to try more.

My newest wine geek effort–Domaine du Pavillion Cote Roannaise. Didn’t recognize Cote Roannaise appellation on the label, so I did some basic research and discovered this obscure French AOC. I’m a sucker for good Beaujolais, so finding another region growing Gamay intrigued me. I plunked down my $12. Really, really enjoyed this wine.

QOTD: My iPhone arrives tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to downloading some wine apps and, in particular, documenting my tasting experiences.

Have not posted in a long while. Curious about the Chinon with the Cab Franc being so light. I will need to give Chinon a serious look. Loved the outtakes. What happened to no editing?!

QOTD: iphone – yes. Soon to probably have a new ATT 4G droid based phone though.

GO PACK!! Glad Rodgers and company could kick a little Terrible Towel butt on behalf of all jilted Jets fans…

Love the Suckling interview. Great synergy with you two, though hilarious his clip ends at your check-out line, being rung up for his tasting bottles! THAT’S how you make that bottom line, baby.

QOTD: I have neither – I am lagging with the tech, but plan on an iPad sometime soon.

I don’t posses neither iphone nor ipad. I have a question for the forum, did anybody try this Uruguayan wine http://www.vino-uruguay.com/index.php?id=30&L=2, since we are talking about tannat wines from Uruguay and if you have I would like to know what you think.

Have you given any shout-outs to your lady commenters, Gary? I know the comments aren’t a total sausage party, but I haven’t heard any of the women getting a nod in your ongoing shout-outs .

    No i-anything in my home.

  • QOTD – Neither. I am not quite in Mott territory, as I DO have a cell phone, but neither of the apple devices are slated to be in my possession anytime soon. I’m not anti-technology though, but that’s the short answer here. Now on to the actual wine tasting potion of this episode!

Huge fan of South African Chenin Blanc, even the supermarket label, the one with the cheetah is pretty good for the money.

  • Hey Gary!
I’ve been watching your show for about a year as a lurker and I thought today, when you mentioned the CKC, it was time for me to introduce myself. I’m coming to you from UC Santa Cruz. Go Slugs. Come visit…we have a bunch of wineries. Love the show. Thanks for keeping it real, Gary. For my value play I look to Cotes du Rhones and Bordeaux.
