Great episode on tasting value wines! Loved how different wines from around the world were explored.

It's nice to see quality doesn't always mean high price.

Do you have a favorite budget wine pick from this list?

QOTD: Waiting for the next versions – isn’t that always the answer for tech. Like the show – always want to hear about other grapes and wines from unique places. Thanks

  • QOTD: iPad (no 3G) plus iPhone4 here.

Actually watching WLTV on the iPhone, answering the QOTD on the main comp as I work.

Wouldn’t buy an app if that’s what you are fishing for — unless it can do one thing: help me make a decision on an unknown bottle standing in the store aisle…kind of like CT already does.

  • i have a question regarding his book can any one point me in the right direction ???

a perfect balance of being perspicacious without sounding hebetudinous or coming off as solopsistic. How pulchritudinous.

QOTD: iPhone 3G bought the iPad and returned it the very next day because it doesn’t support flash. (With a 10% restocking fee btw from apple which equals about $60 bucks on a $600 iPad)

Hey Gary with everybody looking for value these days how do you explain the correlation between wines under $20 and the amount of work or expertise behind them? And how many wines demand the same work as under $20 wines but are $40? Maybe you can elaborate on supply and demand, importing, taxes, shipping etc.

P.S. He did mispronounce your name but he also mispronounced “Sour Charry”. He must have smoked a fat Cuban before doing the vid. 😉

  • Anonymous

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The 10% wasn’t a restocking fee, it was a stupid tax – everybody knew the iPad didn’t support Flash when it came out.

    QOTD: no i-gadgets.

Am down with the CKC’s. Just graduated Brooklyn Law School.

What was that about Mott in the 1960s??

    P.S. I thought wltv did not edit…

Talking about value plays I picked up a 2009 Dr. Loosen Riesling for about ten bucks. It was awesome. I have bought two more bottles since last weekend. Would love to see more value play shows on Rieslings. Nothing like finding a good value play with the economy and trying to make it on Military pay. Also a desert wine show would be cool. Keep up the good work!

Oh, NWIDan! Please do not Ever treat me as that Most Exalted One, audiofan! I’m not worthy of such adulation. If you merely rummage through the “past episodes” section, I’m quite certain you can find the link for the “beer”, “hard spirits” episodes, and sundry other libations. ;)!!
As per your contention that I had to “Wikipedia” the aforementioned term, you have Obviously not followed my previous posts in which I, somewhat ashamedly, admitted to being rather “Raoul Duke-ish” in years past. My choice of a surrealist avatar should have been a Huge red flag giving you the heavy-handed hint that I was no stranger to? shall we say? certain ?chemicals?. But it also signifies a new me?
I love your enthusiastic posts, sir. Keep ?em coming!! 🙂

  • Alex Truelove

    Gossip Girl?? Really?? I’m disappointed.

    QOTD: Neither.

Graduated U of Michigan, now grad school @ McGill. I already saw a Concordia CKC post…get up to Montreal GVl!!

  • QOTD: No sir. Android all the way!

I want to rep the #ckc, but having just graduated I can’t. Though still starting out (especially in theatre) I still don’t have the dough some grads have so I’ll rep the #ckcf, college kid cash flow.

    John__J, dare I say

A bit of a schism in the QOTD. Football season isn’t even cold and now we’ve got a little electronic device rivalry going.
I phone, Mac mini (way underrated), and Yea, AT&T does SUCK!!!!

To bad about the Uruguay red. Good show.

  • John__J

yeah… but totally tongue in cheek pedanticism (if that’s a word)

    kudo’s on the haiku btw

  • John__J

    and Raoul Dukish!, nice

no ipad or iphone… the Nokia and the ThinkPad work fine for me. not sure i want to be one of those people frantically poking at their phone every free moment.

You were approaching the pedantifical heights, there, my friend…
    :D!!

QOTD: As a version customer I am excited to get the iPhone bandwagon.

CKC representing the University of Colorado at Boulder

I had taken a break from the show for a few months, but am excited to be back and appreciate the energy. 2009 Loire! I have had such good luck tasting this vintage after a run of poor vintages from the region. I put a Samur 100% cab franc on BTG at my restaurant which is the substitute for pinot. Pinot qualities at 10bones, people dig it.

    Gary,

I’ve been watching winelibrarytv everyday for a good while now. This show is awesome! Keep it up!

NWIDan… In all seriousness, start with WLTV episodes #327, #519, #537, #815, #899, #911, and #912. I do no longer drink “booze”, so I have no interest in the cognac, rum, vodka, te-kill-ya, etc episodes… but they’re out there, amigo. Cheers, and good hunting…

Well not only flash but certain newspapers formats weren’t supported and for me it’s not worth the money.

    yeah colorado!

QOTD: no iPhone, no Ipad – but the significant other has both. In fact the kids have iTouch’s – and I have the ancient iPod’s. But the whole sound system in the house controlled by the Linux Server in the basement running MPD – that’s my domain.

Chinon – always on the lookout, SA – still doesn’t do it for me – but I’m more open to the whites, epecially because I think Chenin Blanc is waaay under-rated. Tannat is interesting, used in Cahor as minor blend with Malbec by the way – like beef on beef – but haven’t had many from Uruguay. Fun show – love the energy.

Most wines that you find in supermarkets are crap like these, except sometimes if the supermarket is big and “fancy” enough they’ll have a small decent section where everything is overpriced anyway.

  • awesome show! feeling the energy! made me laugh, made me smile, thanks for that.
i have the HTC EVO, android all the way!
what about the back to college crew, the BCC, or something. i’m in school, but it’s the second time around. got a journalism degree, now i’m back learning about wine. giving a shout out to Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon and the Southern Oregon Wine Institute.

    #CKC University of Calgary
Fun show, its too bad a $10 bottle of wine in the states is 15ish in Canada. The one thing I really like about this show, other than the content, is that it’s all done in one take.
QOTD: I have an iPhone and iPad. I’m guessing the reason behind this question is that you are planning on making an app.
If you are going to make an app make sure it is quality. Shitty apps make a company look lazy. Right now there are a few wine related apps on the AppStore but for the most part they aren’t very good, they all have certain useful features but none of them have the whole package. And if you are making an app make it for apple and android products.

Cannot escape this opportunity to plug Greek wines, my true love. You are asking about reds but my suggestion is white, so much can be learned from an aged white. My suggestion is Domaine Sigalas 2009 Santorini Assyrtiko. Drinking great now, and would be educational to watch a crisp white turned honeyed and luscious. Gary just so happens to have it on sale for 19.99.

Just had a 07 L’AURA Chianti Classico that I bought in Total Wines of Boca Raton which harsh tannins definitely soften after cooling it a bit, but still not delivering on value as far as my palate would like for $20 bucks.

The James Suckling visit was awesome. Congrats! Really thought your passion for wine came through and showed with this caliber of critic coming and visiting Wine Library.

  • QOTD: 1st gen iPod Touch & a Palm Pre

    CKC from Northern Arizona U.

  • GOTD: No.

Thanks for the value episode. I appreciate it. This makes me interested in buying online from Wine Library…if they could ship to WA I would. I’m still on the hunt for some of the wine bottle stickers as seen on the Jets spit bucket. My laptop is still bare and it’s free advertising. Think about it bro. Thanks

GOTD: No. I use my phone to, you know, make phone calls.

Enjoyed the bloopers reel at the end of the show!

  • That’s legit. Good luck

  • You can still roll with the crew. Its ok with me Nick

  • If you’re under 100 years old I consider you a kid. Over 100 a sage

QOTD: No iPhone or iPad…though I have a Touch so I can get apps. Will probably get the next iPad when it comes out in a few months (assuming it has what I’m hoping it has). My phone is Android (HTC Incredible). Nice phone.
