Great episode on tasting value wines! Loved how different wines from around the world were explored.

It's nice to see quality doesn't always mean high price.

Do you have a favorite budget wine pick from this list?

So you’re 77 points on the Toscanini; guess he should have kept his day job as a maestro.

    QOTD: iphone, yes. ipad, nope

G…Why are you pronouncing the “t” at the end of Tannat??

  • Anonymous

I have an iPhone and my wife has an iPad. I am a big fan of Chinon but have been disappointed in the low end. I drink generally in the $25-30 ranger for Chinon. I have yet to drink anything form South Africa I like ( I especially dislike Pinotage). Haven’t had any Uruguayan wines but this one did not inspire me to drink them.

  • My thoughts exactly (gossip girl? Really?) GV continues to surprise us. 🙂

  • QOTD: No, but may have to cave in and buy an Iphone this spring. First I need to make sure it doesn’t cut into my wine budget.

  • Randall

    You and me both…
    😉

LOVED the bloopers at the end… I had noticed that there was still time so I stuck around. Very funny!! BTW, I would’ve been all over ordering bottles of the Chinon if you had done the FS… and I wouldn’t have criticized you for being “commercial” because it’s obvious you were genuine and wanted us to try a Chinon (I’ve never had any). But then you went and got commercial on us anyway with the book pitch. LOL!! 1960’s “pot with Mott”, now it’s a party!! Regarding the Tannat, I never hear of that varietal but we did recently help place my wife’s cousin to work at Uruguay’s Embassy so I’ll ask her what she knows about it.

QOTD: yes, of course!! And so does my wife and sons. And save your breath Droid/Annoyed/Void users… you know you only bought that wannabe because you didn’t have [or don’t like] AT&T. 😉 JUST KIDDING, don’t get all sensitive. LOL

  • QOTD: Early iPhone adopter…

  • Yes, we have our priorities, Randall. 🙂
BTW: I don’t get the ipad though.. If one has an iphone and a decent laptop, what is the benefit of the ipad? 🙂

  • This was a killer episode. Explosive energy and some real quote worthy stuff in there.

    QOTD: iPhone and no iPad.

    CKC at heart UCLA!!!!!!!

Zip. Nada. Zilch. As others have pointed out, there is no flash available, so the iPhone and a laptop is all that’s needed. I must confess, though, that my friend Sephilongstockings has sold me on the $180 Kindle. It’s limited, but all I need on the go, with its mp3, etc capabilities. That’s a good enough price for this po’ boy… I have cellarable beers and wines to buy, after all…
    😉

QOTD: I own the ugly little cousin, the IPod touch. At least you can carry it around and it has 64 GB of memory. Killer portable mp3 player.

CKC of the University of Iowa, proud alma mater of #23 Jets RB Shonn Greene. Go Hawks!

You should drop by, we’ve got a pretty good thing going here. Great fans, tight knit community, plenty of enthusiastic wine drinkers. The U of I is not only home to a sizable school of business, it also boasts the presence of the internationally respected Iowa Writers Workshop. Great venue in Prairie Lights Bookstore. You’d be guaranteed a stimulating audience of diverse, well spoken, and thirsty people.

Also, we’re on I-80. 235 easy miles from Chicago. You can’t possibly get lost gunning it straight westbound from New Jersey. It would be fun.

  • QOTD: No, blackberry all the way!!!

  • QOTD: No. Just an ipod.

  • QOTD: iPhone, picking up an iPad soon. One of those 9pm – 3am iOS developers.

After the $50+ episode with the best guest ever, I was wondering when a CKC episode was coming. Awesome emotion and huge amount of energy, keeping me pumped as it passes midnight here!

  • Great show, Gary. Lately I have tried the Domaine Monte de Luz Tannat and it’s been nice. Rolls in at about 15 Euros here on The Rock.

QOTD: No ipad, no iphone. Just an ipod and a Kindle, which I adore.

If you’re interested, there is a wonderful introductory book on wine by a bloke by the name of Oz Clarke called “The Essential Wine Book” …a very informative text written in a easy-to-appreciate and unpretentious (as well as humorous) style. He & GV should do a show.

Gary, isn’t Tannat originally from the Southwest region in France, which is to the south of Bordeaux? I could be wrong but what I heard before was that the Madiran appellation in the Southwest grows Tannat traditionally… oh by the way, #CKC: Michigan State University. We love you here man, definitely come down for your book tour. East Lansing MI, not a huge town but it houses a school of 50,000 students and the school owns a restaurant that holds Best of Award of Excellent from the Spectator. I gurantee you will have a great wine audience base. If interested, let me know. Tweet @dxpian.
