I now feel like I could have just read all the other comments about doing a variety of shows and just said “read below”

  • Anonymous

2 posts two days. i like the head to head same varietal and three. like the one, dont like more than 4 but sweet spot for me is 2-3 (3 i like same country, different varietals)

  • John__J

It would be fun to see you do a show like that that guy in those old micro machine commercials and blow through a wine and talk about it super fast and ask the qotd and be done the whole episode in 30 seconds.

  • Randall

    Laughing out loud!

  • Ok. It’s on. And the nominations are:

    1. A Leopard tortoise
    2. Damon Killian
    3. Everett Presley

  • QOTD: I agree that 1 wine might not be enough. A bunch of head to head wouldn’t be bad but variety would be best, just keep mixing it up. Also why change what has worked for 980+ episodes…

  • Anonymous

This could have been a 3 minute episode if you didn’t yap so much 🙂
I prefer the old-skool episodes where you try 3 to 5 wines but you stayed focused on them.
The one wine format would be OK too like thrown in on Fridays on the laid back couch. Whatever happened to the laid back Fridays anyway?

QOTD: I like the shorter episodes from time to time, but if you go for the 5 minutes, don’t spend 2-3 of those minutes explaining that the episode is going to be short. Just deliver the 5 minutes unapologetically.

  • Laid back what?

  • Anonymous

hate the five min. show, and so much for an upcoming “baller” show…sheesh!!!

  • Agreed!

  • Anonymous

Enjoyed the one wine format, but it could be a dud show if the wine is dud. Keep mixing it up.

  • John__J

Gary, your gonna need to do a laid back hammock episode to make up for all the laid back couch shows we’ve missed 🙂

  • The Lurkers are not more important, Good Call, Lurkers hurt me!

    Dude! C’mon…..

  • QOTD: 5 minute shows would be great, as long as you can get them out daily.

  • lol

Gary – I say mix it up. What is most important is that the show has a theme and has lots of energy.

I have a geeky side so learning about the wine, the grape(s), the producer, the region and then your tasting comments is the “package”.

Some days one wine is great, others three wines with a guest and a longer show rocks, throw in some brown bags, throw in some head to head, mix it up on price points, compare new world with old world, pick wines that go with the season and its food, try wines from female wine makers, retaste wines you have had before……. My vote is for variety with high energy!

    Cheers

The show is at its best when you just mix up the format. Interesting to see your reaction to this wine.

  • MattB

    Agreed – MIX IT UP!

  • Keep us in suspense; one wine is o.k. but I rather enjoy a longer show.

listen, im a fan of the brown bag shows. K-murph needs to mix up the price points a little though. this is a show where you get to show your chops, and i think, as someone’s palate i follow and respect, there needs to be three wines or more double blind. ’cause let’s face it, im not watching the show because i like looking at you. more thunder please!!!

…AND BRING BACK THE DAMN WRISTBAND!!!!!!!!!!

  • QOTD: keep ’em short & sweet – unlike the wines.

Love the tight formats, but must have at least one brown bag episode a week.

QOTD: Hmmm, not a big fan of the 5 min. show. U are my wine fix of the day and I would be sad if it only lasted 5 min. I say mix it up, so we have a little of everything. My favorite is the 10-15 min show with 3 bottles- like yesterday. That was cool and really mixing it up- but sometimes its nice just going to a region and learn a lot about that area or grape or what ever it could be. And may I suggest to put KMurph back on the show. And how about tasting some of those brazilian bubbles U’ve been yapping about?

  • garym

If you’re doing only one wine we need all the tech specs, how long for fermentation and maceration, what kind and size of barrels used, is the wine pumped or only gravety feed,
and so on. We need sommelier level info.
PS Reminder for the “Customer Appreciation Episode”.

  • Randall

You and MelbaLI… always pushing for the grrrlpower!
    😉

p.s. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…
    I say ‘Bring KMurph On!!’

Don’t think, just do! All formats are great. That’s what makes it better than TV. Imagine how interresting the news would be if the length actually was an indication of the amount of important events that day.

    And do a Tannat show!!

  • Anonymous

    Very interresting wine btw 🙂

  • Minimum 2 wines imo. The more the better, within reason. With only 1 wine there is no compare/contrast between the styles

  • 5 minutes is all I have time for. This was WAY more watchable! Great format!

  • John__J

Yes, bring on the Brazilian wines!

  • John__J

yeah and bring on K Murph too

  • Anonymous

Yes yes, bring on the girls 😉

    Hi Gary,

Interesting wine….the Malbec grape is great….we are drinking lots of the 2008 Clos Coutale Cahors you tasted in episode #914.

QOTD: Don’t take the show in a more uniformed direction. What I love about the show and made me a loyal viewer for more than 4 years is the great variety. I really enjoy when you bring on interesting guests as much as when you sometimes do WLTV on location or do it short and sweet as today !

  • Anonymous

Its just so few women in this world. Or maybe its because one of the first episodes that I watched was with KMurph and I thought well, its okay to geeky about wine when U are a girl, and because she made me feel this way I just like her a lot- and miss her a bit.

  • Anonymous

Oh come on, folks… more content is better. If people don’t have time for more than 5 minutes, they should only watch it for five minutes! You can catch up on the rest over the weekend, or on any of the many other days which don’t feature a new WLTV.

one wine format is great!!!! BUT, not everyday. Maybe a Won Wine Wednesday would be cool and Brown Bag Buesday. Bring it back, Laid Back Friday. I know I am not the only person suggesting a weekly format like this, not to take away the spontaneity aspect of the show that we all love, I think it could work.

  • Matt

I enjoy a both short and long shows. But, I prefer the long one, with a lot of blind tastings.

  • Well I must say that the brown bags are my favorite episodes! I really enjoyed the last one with the special guest.
If I had to classify, I would say the head to head would be second, and then pairings with like food is a good one too. My least favorite is definitely the ones where you spend 45 minutes with a guest and talk about his whole life.
    Hope it helps!

  • Anonymous

I say bring KMurph on and taste some sparkling from Brazil.

  • 🙂

  • THNX FOR THE 2 CENTS

  • thnx for the 2 cents

  • drew, I feel that too!

  • makes sense with one wine!

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Keep mising it up. I enjoy all formats

  • Anonymous

Short shows are definitely the way to go for me personally.

Head to head is fun and would probably be a more exciting show to most people, but one wine per show could be really educational. If you go real deep into all the info about the wine it could really help us understand better what it is that’s in the bottle.

  • More wines, more to think about. I also enjoy it when you have guests. BTW, good show with James.
