I think once or twice a week the one wine five to eight min shows work great. Lots of focused and concise information on one wine, region and producer, especially for unique wines like the Loire Malbec.
keep it GV almost got the grand.

For the last 2 1/2 weeks I have been at my desk for most of the time doing mind numbing paperwork and thought what a great time to catch up on WLTV. I missed about the first 900 episodes, so… I actually thought about the length of each individual segment today, today before you posted this video.

I made it to episode 175 today and thought about the differences I have seen.
I like the comparisons of many of the same varietal, but believe the 5-8 minute formats would be great. Sometimes they go on a little long especially if I am at home with the kids, trying to squeeze in an extra 20 minutes can be tough.
Whichever route you choose, I’ll still catch them all eventually.
    Thanks for asking!

  • ALLAN

Can this comment section get to 1k before Gary does……………….. ?

  • 5-7 min once a week is OK 8-12 min once a week OK 15 min twice a week OK 25 once a week OK. Okey?
How old are the vines? 6 min fact show , bring it on! Is there a lot of malbec coming out of Loire? Touraine, Red and rosΓ©: Gamay, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Pineau
White: Chenin blanc, Sauvignon. 26 million bottles produced. Lot’s a historical places good food
QOTD: oh silent majority, sorry, I’ll shut up now.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

Wow, good thing U got that out of your system. Help me out here. My DISQUS is going completely crazy. Sending all the new comments from todays episode, edited my personal settings. No matter what I choose it either sends them all or nothing at all. I just want it to send se notifications on my own comments. When I chose “Notify me of replies to my comments.” I still get them all- also the new ones.

  • ALLAN

What Knockers??? Why, thank you Hr. Doctor. ;P

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Gary, I have always been in favor of the 3+ wine format, but really dig the solo bottle for the educational standpoint. I think you should flip-flop days on the two formats. Monday, 3 wines, Tuesday, 5-7 min educational one wine, etc. Either way, I’m still with you bro! Do what you want….it’s your show!

PS – I say free shipping on 3 or bottles of the Merieau

  • I’ll settle for you πŸ™‚

  • right on

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

Well, I’m not the kind a gal that U are settling for, but in this case I think we are all better of with KMurpf.

  • or girl

  • LOVE the short format show 1-2 times a week. Being selfish, but can bring some of it to class for the students (it’s heavy for them, but wicked energy). Keep up the 3 btl shows as well; mix it up.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

    good call!

  • I usually am a fan of the 3 wine format. However, I do like the 1 wine format as long as there’s a decent amount of info about the winemaker/region of the wine.

  • QOTD: If you’re going to do the “tight” one-wine shows, I want to know more about the Touraine. It has a nickname (garden of france), it’s in the Loire (knew that), and the Loire is more famous for Cab Franc (knew that too). If the show is gonna be 5 minutes, I think it needs to be PACKED with as many “fun facts” as you can give. If you’re not going to taste the wine with other wines from the same place (thereby giving us some context to work with and some material to make comparisons) then I need some more information. Otherwise, I’ve enjoyed the head-to-head shows in the past a lot as well! Keep grinding everyone!

  • Randall

Mott is the man you need to contact. He has helped Many people out with those issues. I am not much of a complainer, but in all those old eps comment sections you would see me (and many others) getting Extremely frustrated with Disgust. I just installed the latest version of Firefox and now I have smooth sailing. I turned off all the notifications for discus and have no problems. I hope it works perfectly…

  • cheat, you skipped yesterdays ep….

  • “Uniformal” yeah that’s you. πŸ™‚

QOTD: For my 2 cents, at least do two wines: one white and one red from the same region. That way when you praise one (or both) I may have a better chance of procuring some instead of the dubious “Sold Out.”

P.S. I liked the link you gave of James Suckling coming to WineLib to taste some wines. I could not find the Bedrock Syrah though I somehow found some alternatives. πŸ™‚

    Cheers!

  • bad boy!

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

And how do U know if someone commented or answered U back? How do I contact him about that. Where do I find his email?

  • Anonymous

QOTD: I like it mixed up. I would love to see Antonio Galloni sit in with you.

Hey, I know your going to have a Bazillion comments when you hit 1000 so I just want to sneak in and say thank you now. The ride has been a blast.

  • ALLAN

    Nope, I commented just in time….. :O

  • I’m old, life is short and all kinds of wine, women and chocolate is good.

  • ALLAN

    Thank you Mr. Pooby-pants πŸ˜›

  • QOTD: My favorite episodes are the brown bag ones but I like how you switch it up. I prefer head to heads with the same varietal or style from different regions and I like the single wine episodes when you go somewhere I am not familiar with. I hope I can find some of these Loire reds in Rochester.

  • ALLAN

I soo deserve that Oscar, for best additional commenting…….. πŸ™‚

  • Randall

I just scroll through the comment section every so often, more frequently if I have time, like now. Sometimes the replies get spread out over time. That’s why I reposted that comment to NWIDan. FB and others and email are an option you can add when starting your Discus account. That’s how I found you and several others on FB (by clicking on the avatar). On this page is a link to contact Wine Library. On top or bottom of the page, I think.

  • I used to think that both had their place and that the short episodes were great for their own reason, but now I change my mind. I dont like the short episodes. It’s just not enough. I like to watch the show while I cook dinner or have a couple glasses of wine or beer, and 6 minutes doesn’t really do it.

  • QOTD: quite like the single wine format, learn more about the area and the differences between them, and how that effects different grapes, excellent since I’m pretty new to this.

Looks like a great type of wine to look out for.

    Keep it up

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

Yeah, its on the bottom. Hmm, it was working perfectly fine before. That sucks. Well, have to take it off because that is way to many emails from WLTV. Well, thanks anyway.

  • ALLAN

    Like ALWAYS Randall boy!!!!! πŸ˜›

  • ALLAN

This comment section is on steroids!

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

What are U talking about? I see U more than anyone else here πŸ˜‰

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

Yeah, and I get all the emails. Crazy Disqus. I absolutely do NOT like.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

    Fair enough, fair enough.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

    absolutely.

  • Anonymous

I have never had a Touraine and have only had 2 or 3 loire valley reds. Definitely need to expand my pallet.
QOTD: I actually prefer brown bags head to head. As for uniformity- ABSOLUTELY NOT! That is one thing I love about your show. You never know what’s coming.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

    Right back at YA.

  • Randall

Hopefully someone who got help from WL will see these posts and be able to better help you out…

  • I was taking a bite out of my homemade pulled pork sandwich when you mentioned it. Now I want some wine to go with it!

QOTD: I like the short(er) format shows. 5 minutes may be a little too short, though. 8-12 seems to be a good range.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

    They all love that!

  • steve

QOTD: I need at least two wines. They don’t necessarily have to go head to head, but it’s an interesting idea. I would like to see in addition to an outright score some sort of GV utility rating that quantifies quality vs price more than just a buy or pass. Something like a score/price number, although i dont know if price should be linear (maybe adjusted log?). Any metrics nerds have some thoughts?

  • QOTD: I like mixing it up. Sometimes, I like the multiple bottle shows…especially when profiling specific appellations so we can see how different winemakers approach different varietals or blends. A nerd-up show with a specific wine is cool too.

  • Randall

That’s why I let Allan sneak in at first post today. πŸ™‚ I was watching that and hoping that the book would hit number one before the guy started talking to the little purple elves of sleep deprivation…

  • Really like the single bottle format for interesting locales/varietals. When new and interesting info can be shared, it really works.

Personally, nothing beats 15 minutes of brown bags in a nice long row. No need to get linear with the format—it keep us on our toes, so keep mixing it up.

  • Anonymous

I like the one bottle shows and appreciate the time that you take to produce all of your shows. One or two short shows a week in with some brown bag comparos, head to heads and guests would be a good mix. IMHO.

  • Anonymous

Your show is my guilty pleasure of the day. So when they’re short, I find myself browsing the past episode list. While this is fun, there’s nothing like a full, current episode to satisfy my WLTV cravings. I’m gonna watch either way, but I love the 10-12 min ones.

  • Leatherpalate

Always always always just keep on riffing dude-this show is all about Motts energy and your technical skills. Simply put stand on that base and let it flow like a world class jazz duo..

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

    what is that?
