I like the 3 wines show.. but the head to head sounds pretty good!
    Love your show!

  • I think the head to head would be my favorite. I like the 3 wine format as well as the 1 wine.

    How about another beer episode?

  • Anonymous

Love the 3 wines show AS IS! but the Head to head sounds interesting!

  • QOTD: I think as long as the quality is there people will watch whatever length your show is. The variety is part of why people like it. They never know what to expect, e,g: length, wine, brown bag, guests, ect. So variety is good! For me the sweet spot is 15-20, as I consciously know I’m going to watch your show every day, so the longer the better until the point that I know I need to get back to work.

  • QOTD: I like the 3 wine shows and the 3 wine brown bags the best but I like that you mix it up and some of the shows are like this. I will never complain as long as you keep bringing out new shows

  • DaveAll

5 or 10? why round it to 5 minute blocks. Go for 7 minutes and I’m in! Focus on wine, vines, terrior, and nerd it up on aroma and tastes, then do the wine you have. like you do. haha.
But would like 3-4 wines a couple times a week.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: I always like the brown-bag shows. But for me the most interesting is a mix of differend type’s of shows.

  • Anonymous

Always enjoy the shows in any format but my favorites are when you do the country v country and when you have guests on

  • this past summer we had an inexpensive picpoul de pinet down by the river…it was a 2005 that I found buried in the cellar. Figured, hey, it’s hot out, and wet inside the bottle, probably past prime, but what the heck…it was startlingly fresh and crisp, and had held up admirably. Great QPR, and longevity too, it would seem.

I will leap at you like a spider monkey on meth.

  • Nice find…so many great deals from the Loire these days, it is a great place to explore by the bottle.
QOTD: just keep mixin’ it up, and do whatever you have to, so that it works for you too. No one format will work for everyone, and no single person should be stuck on a single format, just as there is no one wine for everyone, nor should any one limit themselves to only one wine.
From a logistics standpoint, it would seem that with one wine, you could give it a little more time ( 8-9 minutes – leaving room for geek speak and riffing ), and with multiple wines, you have to shave the per wine average.

  • LurkerKing

I’m impressed, I have no idea who any of these people are. Although in response to numero uno I oft wear sex panther, which I suppose makes it a near guess. 60% of the time, it works every time 😉
I imagine a return to the drawing board is necessary mi fair lady.

  • excellent…Mickey Rivers was my favorite as a young yank fan.

I will come at you like Shawn Michael’s sweet chin music in the night.

  • Like the short format every here and there. Easier to commit to and I don’t get behind on watching every single episode.

  • I like the 1-wine shows. Busy busy busy…so it’s easier to watch the short ones.

  • if anyone IS looking for Vermont wines, I can offer some suggestions, since I do think that hell might freeze over ( or the Jets might win the superbowl ), before GV gets around to it…
    Right idea though MelbaLI!

  • GV,
Thank you for another show. hmmm #982

    QOTD:
1st: I luv the brown bags, it’s like cracker jacks
2nd: I luv head to head
    and
    3rd : I luv the (1) wine discovery
But with only (1) wine you should hand pick the wine. No need for a 62 pointer then,
Let the wine meet the shows objective and of course expand our paletes.

    Keep it tight!

  • exactly…geek specs are a must when it is a single

  • Anonymous

QOTD: I like more shorter episodes, but don’t give up on the 10-15 minute episodes and the 20-30 minute episodes. I enjoy the quicker hitters when I’m in a rush, but I’ll leave the longer episodes for when I have more time. I appreciate the mix.

  • QOTD: I’d say that if there is more to say about a particular bottle then a single wine show is OK, if there is a comparison or something interesting about more than one than two would be great.

  • Anonymous

    QOTD:
Why not appeal to the masses? Everyday can have a set “style”. Monday can be brown bag day, Tuesday can be head to head, Wednesday Rapid Fire(like today)etc… That would add some consistency to the show.
People can get an idea of how much time they need to set aside for any given style/day.

  • Anonymous

i really like the format! One wine, one region 5-6 minutes of info awesome!

  • brown bag=greatest
the one wine format is perfect in terms of the time factor, but it presents a greater chance that a wine you are not so interested in, or cannot find, becomes the whole show

  • Anonymous

QOTD: I think that your use of different formats keeps the show fresh and interesting. Brown bag, head-to-head, guests, solo, long, short, it’s all good. Keep following your instincts. I would like to see some head-to-heads with the same varietal from 2 different regions where you let us know how they’re different and why, like Cali Pinot vs red Burgundy and white Bordeaux vs NZ Sauvignon Blanc.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Nah, no ‘uniformal’ stuff! 😀 As I’ve said before, keep mixing it up. You & Mott know what you need to do on any given day to put out quality episodes. That means they will vary in length & content. So be it.
Btw, it was good to hear ‘Mott, link it up!’ again! Now- where’s the link? Love you guys.

Good to see a good surprise hit you. Do you think it was a matter of the terrior influencing a different take on Malbec or did the winemaker try to change things up on his own?

QOTD: I like a mix of formats for the show but especially enjoy the blind tastings and the head to head episodes. The guest episodes need to be well thought out. You have had some outstanding guests as well so I wouldn’t like those episodes to go away either. Just keep up the mix. I don’t enjoy your show as much when you do too many in a row with the same format.

  • Anonymous

i think you should keep on doing what your doing…if you make it into a format that gets boring.. but if you keep switching up each episode like you have been doing it makes it extremely exciting to tune in every day to see what you have in store for us… keep up the great work!!!!!! i love WLTV!!

  • Throwing one wine into the mix of formats is awesome. I liked how you explained a bit about the region pre-sniff…sometimes you only have a few minutes to watch a video.

  • Anonymous

Interesting stuff. I am such a fan of the *other* regions in France, ie: Chinon, Loire, Rousillon.

QOTD: Personally, I like to compare/contrast/juxtapose wines so, the one wine shows are a little meh. Luckily for this one, the wine was good and interesting but, think how crappy it would be if you had one really stinker of a wine….where’s the fun in watching that? Oh great…one bad wine…c-ya!

  • Anonymous

I have written before and will reinforce my viewpoint. I really enjoy each style of episode.

Enjoy the focus on one (1) wine. Enjoy the episodes with guests so long as they have something to add.

Really enjoy the blind tastings. The head to head episodes are instructive as well.

I know your time is valuable. I can see you taping once a week when you are on a roll, doing a series, and spacing that out for broadcast. That way you have the energy and you are not devoting a portion of each day to these programs.

It is the variety that continues to hold my interest, so take a couple of days, tape a bunch of episodes, space them out and keep educating me and helping me to expand my palate.

Again, thank you for what you do and know that I am better because of your efforts.

  • Oakmon’s BF

No, don’t go uniformal. Go diversical. Also, no need to rush.

Oh an by the way, big fan of Malbec from Argentina, will look for Malbec from Loire Valley. This is why I continue to watch.

    Hi Gary,

here it is…. my first one. Lurker no more. I have been watching for about three weeks now.

First of all, thanks for doing such a great job. Really love your show.

    Second… qotd
one wine show is not the best in my opinion. (I need more imput! 🙂
-Comparing wines is way more dynamic. And I think 3 wines is the magic number.
-Also Brown bag shows are very interesting.
-Shows with winemakers or other guests are also very nice.
so keep it dynamic and change the format from time to time.
But most of all: Keep it real!
    – oh and third: ‘cent visages’ means ‘a hundred faces’, hence the image

    greetings

QOTD: Variety is the spice of life. Like others have said, do one of these a week getting ultra-nerdy, do a head-to-head, do a blind with 3-5 wines, do a ‘classic’ 3 wines 12-15 minutes, have a guest. Then switch that up.

And for the record, F–K the silent ‘majority’! They had their part in destroying the Cindy board, don’t let them have an impact here too. The comment section is the lifeblood of the show/your viewers, if someone doesn’t like something let them either post it here or ignore the show and move on in live. You can’t please everyone even though you want to, but your core is what keeps you going.

  • NJ Big Chris

    Great show, Interesting wine…

QOTD: Variety is the spice of life my friend. Some days 1 wine is cool, other days 3 is best. Long shows with guests are always cool too.

  • Anonymous

Didn’t even know they grew Malbec in Loire. Very intriguing wine.

QOTD: I think 5 minutes is far too short. Personally, if you go to a one-wine format, I would hope for a little more depth on the wine and place that it’s from. Maybe nerd it up a little with some facts about the region or winery, or even some of your favorite producers from the area.

Summary: not opposed to a one wine format, but I’m sort of a sponge and like to learn as much as you’re willing to share and therefore would prefer more depth.

  • One wine is nice sometimes. Especially for people that have busy schedules. I like it.

Malbec from Loire. Very cool. Enjoyed the episode. Don’t mind the single tasting. Prefer at least two. That said, I do like the focus on one specific area. I appreciate the in-depth study. Terse is always good, but quality of content is paramount…whether it’s expressed in 5 minutes or 20.

  • Big G, The Merieau Cot Cent Visages looks like a good find.

QOTD: I like em short and I like em long. Just do what you tell us to keep doing with wine. Try new things. Make some short and make some long. Go with your gut and schedule and just keep giving us the good stuff. Cheers!

  • Anonymous

Head to head is ok from time to time, as are one wine shows, balance is good. But I think at least 3 wines is best, and blind tastings are really good. I wouldn’t want less than that for a normal show

  • LurkerKing

AHHHH MASTER V @Garyvaynerchuk trying to sneak an episode of jamessuckling.com past us. Slick Vaynerchuk, very slick.

Qotd. One wine shows are nice to add to the mix. I only like those epic 30min shows for special occasions and the regular 2-3 bottle shows here and there.

  • Oh poo. 🙁 I thought I had you on Damon Killian. “It’s time to start running!”

  • Anonymous

You must be a really young chick Melba if you want Gary to do shows on areas that won’t be ready to produce quality wines for 30 years 🙂 At 64 I don’t have that luxury. The shows that Gary has done on esoteric wine regions have basically all been buzz kills from the quality of wines produced. It basically is like having the choice of a Mercedes but saying that you want to check out this Yugo over here;-)

  • Feedback;

Personally I prefer your longer shows. I can understand why you might do shorter “Snappier” shows for the time poor viewers. But for me I love to sit back and relax while watching a good 15-20min of WLTV.

The head to head match ups are great aswell. But I love the long interesting shows you do like ep927/928 with Josh Greene. In depth, informative and entertaining.

  • I think it’s easier to follow if you only have one wine and aren’t rushing through three of them. Also, I like to hear about the history or facts about wine/ region/ grapes. I know I can read about that, but it’s easier to remember if I hear it a lot. If you want to do a 10min show comparing 2 wines that are similar (Malbec1 and Malbec2) that would be cool too.

I think for a person who’s just getting into wine, it is beneficial to explain a lot of this stuff so they can try and make some sense out of it.

  • QOTD: head to head is better than just 1, the three wine shows are the best.. just one is just a tease.. need more thunder in my life
