I’ve seen a few of these Greco di Tufo’s around but never tried them. No I will have to pop one open and give it a try. Thanks for the heads-up

QOTD: A bottle of Henriot Champagne with my girlfriend. Same thing we drank on our first date, three years ago tomorrow

p.s. glad to see you care so much about providing a good show. can we request another visit from Sir Gary Vaynerchuck?

Osso Buco, fresh made bread and cheesy polenta. Served with 05 Giovanni Rosso Serralunga Barolo. Parm cheese and Alta Langa La Tur and some ghiradelli chocolates served with 09 Sartarelli Classico verdicchio. Finished off with Pappy Van Winkle 15 year bourbon.

Yay, he’s back! πŸ™‚ Gotta check one of those Greco’s out…
QOTD: We had a rose sparkler from Italy, called Anime pink. I know, it sounds girly, but even my husband loved it!

  • Randall

No, no, no, senor… I was trying to be a mooch just now…

QOTD – CaliΓ², a red wine from Sicily. It is a 50-50% blend of Nerello Cappuccio and Nero d’Avola. I had never tried it before and I admit I really liked it…reminds me a bit of a Malbec. Have you ever tried this one Gary?

  • Gary…… no apology needed… so you weren’t on your A game… 1 stinker out of 983… Thats a good track record my friend. Also I think you are too harsh on yourself. Keep up the great work…

    Aaron, Duluth, MN

  • Hi Gary –
I’m a new member but I’ve been watching you on TiVo for a long, long time. You talk about different regions and towns and appelations a lot. It would be helpful if you had a map (maybe on the wall behind you or one you could hold up) and could point out the areas you are describing.

Also, I like the 10 minute format. Some topics certainly require more time. You might save time by having multiple glasses and pouring them all at the beginning of the show.

Keep going. You’re doing a great job. I’ve never had a friend sit down and watch your show without them being impressed. At first they are generally stunned. Then they realize how much they are learning in a very short time and they want to know how they can watch you on the Internet.

Dang GV, you should produce some “clunkers” more often cause this episode brought thunder and lightening! I had never heard of the Greco before, but will be ordering both of these bottles in about 5 minutes. Thanks for a great show!

QOTD: Broke out a bottle from the first “Cinderella” deal I acted on. 2006 Cliff Lede Cab. Been decanting for 2 hours now so it’s about time to get into it, and I will be sharing it with no one.

  • Gary, Thank you. The episodes you have filmed lately have been corresponding beautifully with my wine tasting and regions classes at CWU. It’s been easier to learn throughout.

QOTD: Moscato d’Asti has been a favorite of mine lately if we’re going the Italy route. As for tonight I’m swirlin’, sippin’ but not spittin’ Kungfu Girl Riesling from the home state of WA. And for tonight as Jason Derulo once said I’m Ridin’ Solo. Studying, stumbling and staying focused on what’s ahead.

    Happy Valentines Day to all!

  • Yes, Randall. πŸ˜›

Thanks for the Di Tufo review. Will have to try it. No worries about 984. As Flo would say to butt heads, ” kiss my grits!”

Thunder ’twas brought. We can call this episode the redeemer. Dropping knowledge left and right on a varietal I hadn’t heard of. Well done Sir!

QOTD: Secret de Grand Bateau – White Bordeaux 100% Sauvignon Blanc from unnamed First Growth. Pairing it with Branzino. Solo tonight. Reading the Wine Bible.

  • QOTD: Barbera d’Alba at a fantastic restaurant with my girlfriend. Unfortunately they took the wine list before I could text it to myself so I don’t remember the producer. It was an ’07 though.

P.s. I didn’t think 984 was bad. It was interesting to see a speed tasting.

QOTD – Rosemount Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre, 2006 Show Reserve – with my wife

  • He’s baaaaack! Nice show and like many have said, no need to apologize.

I love the Di Tufo but never found one that was impressive so I need to try these. I remember a video from a restaurant of mine that featured these wines paired with sub-dried tomato and goat cheese sauce on spaghetti. A wonderful match.

QOTD: Starting with Michael Chiarello Moscato d’Asti and then ending with a 07 Antis Malbec Reserve with Randi. Oops, that was in my dreams. πŸ™‚

    Cheers!

Great show, Gary. Loved the energy, and it was good timing for an Italian show as I’m planning a trip to Italy, and as such have become increasingly interested in Italian wines.

QOTD: Despite being on an Italian kick, I’m drinking a 2008 Tablas Creek Cotes de Tablas from Paso Robles. I am such a big fan of their wines. Unfortunately, though, I’m drinking it alone as my fiancee and I are long distance until the wedding this summer.

Great show Gary! Love to be introduced to a grape varietal that I’ve never heard of….
QOTD: My hubby and I celebrated by going out Saturday to an italian restaurant and had a bottle of Feudo Maccari ?Saia? Nero D?Avola that was FANTASTIC. Best red we’ve had in the past several months.

Nice wine! Big fan of the villages Vacqueras, Rasteau, and especially Vinsobres (not to mention the bigger names of the Rhone).

  • Anonymous

Excellent show. I love to see stuff I don’t know anything about. Other than Pinot Grigio and some Soave, I don’t even pay attention to any other Italian white wine. The examples I have had did nothing for me. I will try to find this one.

Hey Gary, If you can’t even say the words Valentines Day on a wine show I think you just lowered the level for all time low!

  • Congrats Gary, you snagged a lurker with today’s QOTD!

2009 Alamos Torrontes with my lovely wife! She is NOT a wine drinker but she actually liked this wine! At room temperature, could not taste a hint of alcohol. It was light, crisp, and very smooth finish.

  • Anonymous

I’ve been trying to find a bottle of Castle Rock Pinot Noir that I didn’t like. Haven’t been able to do it. Not sure how they can make decent wine for so cheap.

    A great show GV!
Will look up that Italian Greco Di Tufo here locally and give it a Whirl!
QOFD: I’m Poppin a Box of Corbin Canyon Merlot for the First Time with me Wife Betsy when she gets home from Work.

    Stefano Lubiana NV with self.

Good show GV, love the wines of Campania, One thing I like about italian wine (white and reds) is the savoury characters that lend them to food so well. Took me a few wines to understand this, is this something that others experience?

  • Nice shout out to double rainbow.. epic for the younger crowd (CKC). I’m going to rock out a greco this weekend, give it a go.. its a little cold though..

QOTD: ….. …… (I throw it my towel on saturday night, haha, I’m flying solo)

  • Anonymous

So crack-cocaine means different too… just kidding. I love the show. I am single now and I watched the show without a drink right after the Watson/Jeopardy thing.

  • Hi Gary, I’ve been watching for years but have only commented a couple times.

QOTD: I’ll be drinking a NZ sauvignon blanc tonight with my boyfriend called Dog Point. We actually visited the winery on a trip to NZ about 2 years ago – I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on DP.

  • Anonymous

Way to go…another educational experience. You really know how to pack it all in a 13min show…and not a second wasted!

    BRAVO!
