EP 996 Tasting with the Vayniacs: Part 1

Leading up to episode 1,000, Gary Vaynerchuk decided to invite several of the top WLTV forum contributors to join him for shows. Tooch, Metsfan, Paul, and Calicab teamed up on this episode and picked a wine of their choosing to taste with Gary. This is the first of four shows with the Vayniacs from the WLTV forums.

    Please make these shows longer/linger on….. seemed a little hushed! Make it 45min+ 🙂 The Vayniacs deserve the time.

    Well, you could have prepared it a little better, say, maybe decanted it for about 5 hours or so…? Ya see, it’s all in the preparation…. And Rayas is probably “a hair” overpriced for what it REALLY is, don’t you think? 😉

    The Mets will be bankrupt by the all star break and Prokhorov will bye them, effectively turning Jersey into a Russian satellite state.
    The Aussies will be back. They have too many smart and talented people working good vineyards not bounce back.

    QOTD 1/2: Not as many as the Tigers
    QOTD 3: There are quite a few Old World wines I haven’t had this year being part of the CKC. Need to work on a budget.
    QOTD 4: Australia will come back, the country isn’t completely lost and there’s still some good wine being made there.

    I didn’t realize when i picked it out that the Rayas would be opened 5 minutes later and tasted 5 minutes after that…would have picked something different if I had known. oh well.

    Not a bad start to the drum roll, I see why they are such an elite group now. They are all in that coveted top 1%; those are some big boy paycheck wines!

    QOTD 1: Don’t care, SF Giants are going to win it all again anyway.
    QOTD 2: See above comment.
    QOTD 3: Need to explore Italy much more, have had a couple recently but not nearly enough.
    QOTD 4: I never thought Australia left, therefore they cannot come back. It seems odd to me how Gary and others Australia bash all day long, and then as soon as he goes there he showers prays on many of the small producers and many of the people he meets. Then, not surprisingly, as soon as he gets back it?s almost as if those wines he tried do not exist. I understand the branding of Australia, and I also understand that many producers there have latched on to that style everyone dislikes so much and will not let go. I was born there, know a few people who make wine there, and have been back a couple times since I started my fledgling journey in the wine world; that style that everyone associates Australia with is NOT ubiquitous. Sorry for the rant, but some wine regions get unnecessarily slammed and therefore unexplored; which goes directly against Gary?s creed and otherwise curious individuals miss out on some extraordinary QPR’s and some damn fine wine.
