that Vinny T. rant was HARSH. yes, he’s a bum, but he’s so irrelevant at this point that he doesn’t deserve your time GV.

QOTD: a lot of great ideas on this board. a few I would like to second:

    1. wines to pair with everyday foods like pizza, chili, kraft mac & cheese, hot dogs, etc.

    2. pinotage – you’ve scratched the surface but I’d like to know more.

    3. bordeaux left bank vs. right bank – I’d really like to know more about the difference in the flavor profiles before I make my choices for which 2005 Bordeaux futures to buy.

    4. viognier – I love the few that I’ve had, but never hear much about it, except when it’s blended in with shiraz…

    5. sierra foothill zins – this is a personal one: my mom was miss el dorado county 1967, but I don’t think I’ve had any of the wines from there.

PS laid back friday? you laid back in that couch for a total of 2.5 jersey seconds. other than that it was classic gv. adios from left coast

good epi gary….the carneros syrah ande the pavie sound just like my kinda wines….eh, got a hunerd bones i can borrow?

theme: how about a good solid vertical tasting of a producer’s flagship wine? not 4 consecutive yrs in a row…how about a 3 – 8 year spread, so you get some noticeable differences, from youth to mature.

QOTD: Gary, with the recent rumors of the sale of Shea Vineyard fruit to a California conglomerate from 2007-2017 I was wondering if you would do a Shea vineyard episode? There are tons of producers (St. Innocent, Bergstrom, Penner-Ash, Ken Wright, ect.) that buy these grapes in Oregon and it looks like we are about to loose our beloved Shea vineyard wines from Oregon….thanks

Looking back I did see a few coments on verticals….I’d like to agree. it’d be nice to see the same wine in 4-6 different vintages.

  • QOTD: ‘Naturally’ made icewines versus grapes that are frozen in the winery to make icewine.

Freezing wine episode: does residual sugar, high alcohol or lack thereof change the quality of defrosted wine? Do reds freeze better than whites?

Does regular wine come back to life after freezing better or worse than icewine that is re-frozen (LOL). Isn’t it adding insult to injury to freeze those grapes again?

I have seen advice to freeze wine in ziplocs and then defrost for COOKING, not drinking purposes.

How about a theme of “role of the winemaker”? You touched on it with the Pavie today, metioning that he was able to produce a good wine in a sub-par year. What about a winery that has recently gone through a change in winemaker/ownership?

A perfect post-Hollywood exapmle: Sanford Winery. Sanford was bought out by investors (basically, the Chicago mob) in 2005 and got rid of its long-time winemaker. Now Richard Sanford, the initila founder, has moved on to make Alma Rosa wines, and took a lot of his staff from Sanford with him. Apparantly the new Sanford is harvesting many more tons-per-acre and making inferior wines but at the same prices as before, taking advantage of the Sanford lable and post-Sideways fame. I would love to see you tase some pre-and post-Holywood Sanford wines to compare.

    Loved the energy today!

QOTD: Critter wines – which of the cheap aussies do you like best?
