Good to hear about the 02 Pavie…..i actually love that vintage.
QOTD – How about a show on older off vintages…..maybe a show on 1992 Bordeaux or 2000 California cabernet or 1977 Bordeaux….whatever. that would be cool to see how they have held up.

I came back to add one more. Austrian reds would make a good theme. The first really good wine that blew my mind was a red from Austria — I can’t remember what it was, but before that I didn’t know wine could be like that. Smooth, spicy, classy. I wish i could remember the name. I think these wines are on verge of getting more popular/expensive so I’m drinking them now before they get too big for their britches.

    Hey Gary,

I’ve been looking forward to the GRAND TASTING! Went last year and it was wonderful…met a lot of cool people, ate good food and tasted a LOT of great wine. Looking forward to meeting you. Can you please have The Manor serve their killer Cream of Mushroom soup this year??? That was the only thing missing.

By the way, tell the frozen wine guy, the deal is to freeze the leftover wine in ice cube trays for cooking.

    Gary,

Just got to watch the ‘couch episode’ – nice surprise that you chose to taste the Pavie which I suggested. I liked your comments too – bought two bottles last week, one for a gift and one for me – so I’ll have to bring it out this winter for a ‘meat and mushroom’ dinner.

Thanks for the advance notice on the wine spectacular – I’ll clear my calendar and round up my friends – last year’s was great.

QOTD: So many comments I am in line with – but I think I’d like a vertical, maybe Cab vs. Bordeaux, nothing newer than 2003 and mix good with bad years. Well, you asked.

Alright. I waited for the weekend to pass and I read each and every posted comment. It’s time to settle the score. There were a few bids in there, but I’d like to make it official…I am, indeed, Gary’s #1 fan. Bossman, you wasted my time at the DMV (so, you’re the one!!), and TimF, you’re almost worth a rebuttal, however, your arguments are just a little too lean for me. Be forewarned…don’t go where you don’t have the tools to survive. I won…I’m Gary’s #1 fan. See you at the Super Tasting? (Yeah, I didn’t think so!!)

    Denise, the #1 fan : )

Great show. On freezing wine, I’ve read an article once about that and it claimed that freezing does preserve the taste. BUT, BE CAREFUL, you need to thaw it gradually at ROOM temperature. So I guess you could divide a bottle in 2 halves leave them open for 1-2 hrs then freez both. On the day of the test, put on at room temperature to thaw few hours before the show (4-5 hrs), and nuke the second and see what happens 🙂

QOTD How about a Gewurztraminer from different regions theme?
    Cheers

Great appearance on Conan. QOTD: How about an episode on great vintages- you could do a ’00 Barolo, a ’97 Brunello, ’82 Bordeaux, etc. and discuss what it means when a vintage is rated very highly.

Actually made a trip to WL on Friday to pick up an internet order. Amazing store…

Nice call on the Sherry episode and excellent old school action: Oh Sherrie by Steve Perry. That’s gotta play during the episode…

And whatever happened to the ‘mystery location’ tasting? San Fran, Chicago, NJ, and ? Did I complete miss that anouncement?

Nice show Gary! Thanks for taking the Sherry trip next week! I’m a big fan of Sherry since I was in Jerez this summer!

QOTD: Don’t forget to take some PX in the Sherry show!! 😉

excellent laid back friday episode. very excited about the sherry. good to see the old spit bucket back too…just wasn’t the same without it. QOTD: i would like to compare the juice relatively new wineries are producing (less than 5 years old or so) to the juice that the old and established wineries are producing (50+ years or so). like to see if we’re mainstreaming the wine we’re making or if we’re staying true to the land and terrior. Either way you’ll bring the thunder i’m sure!!

Qotd: how about themes of different regions: one could be bierzo in Spain.

I’d like to see another PORT epi… hasn’t been one of those since episode 102! Maybe non-vintage, since they are closer to my price range…

    or how about this:
Port from a single label that has a vintage, a 10 year, and a 20 year, or a LBV. Semething like that!

    QOTD: Dolcetto.
