QOTD: Cheap, non-area-specific Bordeaux. The Bordeaux Superiors I think they’re called.

I agree with Lynne’s comment above. What’s this mad obsession with answering every single e-mail? Enjoy your family, enjoy your weekend, enjoy life. Unless of course answering all those e-mails is exactly what you want to do…. then, by all means. You do seem to think and write about 19 times faster than other humans..

Theme – The best red wines on the planet. It would be an expensive show for you to do, maybe, but would be very interesting.

Theme – native/indigenous grapes – don’t seem to get any love – can decent, no-sugar-added wines be made with these?

Theme – wines you personally love and drink at home

And though I got to watch a bunch of people standing around in the Super Tasting footage, I didn’t get any details: where, when, etc.

I agree with Cam. How about some Cab Franc? And while I’m asking, I searched the site for any wines from Magnotta, a winery in Niagra Valley, Ontario. I didn’t find any reference to any wine from there. If you would make one of the Cab Francs that you taste, one from Magnotta, that would be really great!

    FIRST COMMENT EVER.

I’d like to say that that porter potty comment is enough to put anybody off wine forever. crap phase? I’m new to wine but god that sounds like some sick fetish that only belongs in a very dark and faraway corner of al gore’s internets.

Why did I have to see/here that. :'(

I like the theme of indigenous grapes, or at least some off the beaten path grapes like Bonarda, Vernaccia… or Airen and ugni blanc (which are heavily planted but hardley see as single varietals).

Lately i’ve been looking for more elegant reds like Burgundies and Riojas (vs. my usual tendancy towards big fruity reds), so a show on those would be nice… especially Burgundy, since it can be so confusing and so darn expensive. Hey how about a week long show that covers all of Burgundy (whites and reds)!… or any region for that matter (Bordeaux, Napa, Marlbrough, etc.) . I realize there are many wines from all over to touch on, but it would be nice to really “get into” certain growing regions.

Otherwise; I like WLBURK’s idea of desert style wines all week long.

Keep up the great show Gary. WLTV is awsome!… or… i mean the “Thunder Show”… Is the title/show changing? i’ve been meanig to ask.

QOTD: Gigondas!! It’s fun to say. It’s fun to drink. And it is not nearly as expensive as the trendy stuff. I have been wanting to find some good southern Rhone value and I know you could steer us in the right direction.

A show on new world blends (ala Paraduxx, Truth, etc.) would be nifty.

    Or,

A show on the Justin label or the Stanley Lambert label would be my choice, as both make delicious wines and I do not believe they’ve received much coverage, at least on WLTV.

Another thought – a show that highlights the variations from vintage to vintage for the same wine, same label. Great example is the 2002 Martin Ray cab, compared to the 2003 Martin Ray cab – I found a very palpable difference between the two when I had them back to back.

  • Gary,

I see a lot of people are clamouring for lesser now varietals and regions…

I say go with my idea of the Dessert Wine Week #1, then move onto and entire week (week#2) of Lesser know varietals and regions…make everyone happy!

    🙂

  • I would second a Sake tasting. I have had some incredible Sakes around the world and woud love to see a review. Looking forward to a Sherry reeview as I am stuck in Lustau and Tio Pepe. You havne’t done Rhone reds or whites in a while so why not?

Been too busy to keep up lately so this may have already been covered, But what about some non-vintage wines and what is different about a non-vintage vs. a vintage???

QOTD: Take four different wines from Europe, which are marked as containing 12.5% alcohol (aren’t they ALL?), and have them analyzed for their actual alcohol content. I would suspect that the wine makers and distributors are ‘misprinting’ to lessen the bite of the export / import taxes.

The Vayniacs had some good choices. Always can count on variety from the Nation.

Weekends are great, as I can catch up on a lot of things at home. Family, chores, WTV eps, and maybe a nap. I hope you get to catch up too.

QOTD: port, of course. A good idea earlier re Pirate Theme, but take port into a Royal Navy theme.

Another $.02, but I don’t think I chipped in a whole $.10 yet this week. Monday starts another week at WTV.

I’d get you a picture of me and my new wristband…. if you’d SEND IT! Yes, I’m getting impatient!!! 🙂 J.K. I’m sure it’s on the way .. takes a bit to get it out to Cali, huh?
(Razz-a-dazz-dazzing you — but I love ya anyway!)

  • The Thriller

    Gary,
New to WLTV and wine for that matter, and I gotta say…I’m a big fan (of both). Probably watched 20 episodes today. (that’s what they get making me work on a saturday) I’ll be tuning in on a regular basis.

QOTD: Someone said “Verticals” and I’d like to echo that.

Did I miss something ? You went to Tokaj (the region) and no episode yet on Tokaji (the wine) ?

QOTD: How about a whole episode on your trip and the wines you found there ?

Suggestion for a theme for next week. I would love to see a comparison of 3-4 grenache wines. They don’t have to be 100% but at least 75% grenache. Maybe 1 from Spain, 1 Aussie, 1 US and 1 South American. I have really been getting into grenache lately and would love to see this done.

Gary, please bring me a program just on Joint-Venture wineries or by reputable winemakers. They don’t have to be these wines but something like these perhaps?

    1. Montecastro from Ribera (jv of Cheval Blanc)
    2. Paul Bruno – Cab Sauv, (Bruno Prats-Paul Pontallier venture)
    3. Tapanappa – (M.Cazes of Lynch Bages and Brian Croser of Petaluma)
    4. Cheval de Andes (Cheval Blanc and Terrazas De Los Andes)

Great selection of wine in this episode. I liked the progression from fruit bomb to stink bomb. I want to try each of those wines!

    QOTD: Potential themes:
Portugal – Wines made from grapes that Port is made from
France – Affordable Francos that will help you get a taste of an area
Scary – Unusual named wines that are a “little scary” (ex. Ox Blood)
American Grapes – Wines made from indigenous North American grapes (are there any good wines?)
Tempranillo – Show us your favorites from Spain, USA, South America. How do they differ?

Hey Gary. Keep up the good work.
QOTD: Israeli Wines! Come on Gary, you’ve only done like 5 and one of them was corked! (That’s right, some of us are old Vayniacs.) You owe us an episode.
