Great show, Homer had nothing on you.
QOTD- 2005 Bordeaux DOH!!!! I don’t have any. Acutally when you were saying buy on futures I was pretty new to the idea and didn’t feel comfortable buying wine on futures,I am more comfortable in the wine world now( thanks to the The Thunder show). I bought the Vayniac Cab before the grapes were even picked.

Other QOTD- Born in Canada, came to the States when I was seven

QOTD: I have never bought an ’05 Bordeaux before.

Great show. Congrats on 2 years.

  • My modest collection is still fairly new and growing, but 2005 bordeaux is probably my biggest position at 38 bottles. Usually 3 of this, 3 of that, 1 of this, 2 of that, 3 of this… Maybe some I should have bought by the case, but who knows.

I’m Canadian, but I live in the US.

QOTD: Not at all, I’ve been concentrating my buying in other regions for the last 2 years. I will buy 2005s, but I will likely just cherry pick in the Cru Bourgeois.

Subquestion: Like Mork, I am also from Ork.

2005 Bordeaux, NOT. The pricing is NUTZ and I am not interested at all in crazy pricing, because, let’s face it, tomorrow it’s (all wine) all just piss.

I love White Bordeauxs!!!! And you can find some cheaper whites from Bordeaux out there- I like the 2004 Chateau Fort de Roquetaillade and I absolutely loved the 2006 Chateau Ducasse Blanc (both were only $15)! Yummy stuff.

QOTD: I now have two ’05 Bordeauxs. One from Margaux which has a note on it saying “Don’t drink! Let it be for at least 10 years!” and now a bottle of the Secrets de Cardinale. This is because I roll as a CKC and because I don’t have a cellar. But I can’t wait till I have a cellar (and hopefully the dinero to back me up) and then I can buy as much wine as I want. 🙂

Interesting Bordeaux story. I bought about 4 cases of Bordeaux futures, locally in DC, in Spring of 2006 as they began to rave about them. Shortly after that, I began to watch an occasional WLTV episode. About September of 2006, I became a regular WLTV viewer and heard the admonitions to buy 2005. That Xmas, I received a couple of Border’s Books gift certificates. Right after Xmas, I stopped at Border’s to buy myself a nice cookbook. But, instead, I saw The Southeby’s Wine Encyclopedia 4th Edition. Armed with that book and the information that it provided, I started buying 2005 Bordeaux futures. After the first couple of additional cases of Saint Emilion and a few left-banks, I thought that I was set. Then, based on the white Graves some friends and I used to drink 30 years ago and the memories it invoked, I bought some Carbonnieux Blanc. Pretty soon, I was convincing myself to buy 6 bottles of this and 3 or 6 bottles of that on a regular basis. I even splurged on a few Angelus and Cos D’estournels–I expect to sell most of those unless my palate becomes more discerning over time (I hope). Again, I thought that I was done. Over time the hype continued, and I continued buying. I even bought another case of Sauternes recently. When I was all done (and I’m pretty sure I’m done now), the damage was 35 cases and untold 1,000’s of dollars. My rationale for this extravagance was that this is a once in a lifetime event and it’s wine that I’ll have and enjoy for the rest of my life. The problem now is where to put it all.

QOTD: Better positioned in older Bordeaux. Not much ’05. Will buy the sea of the lower level stuff when it comes in. Can’t wait 20-30 years to drink it because I may not get to it. Don’t intend to leave a cellar to my offspring.

  • Had the chance to invest in some ’05 about a year or so ago but unfortunatly had zero cash.
Still broke but will ask some friendly wine merchants if they have any bottles lying around they are willing to part with without too much of a mark up.
Will play the “I am young in the wine trade and did not know” card. Hope it works.

Oh yeah, am from Manchester in the UK but now live in Chester
