QOTD: Never tried it so I guess I don’t know. Have to put it on the list.

Don’t let the number of comments get you down. Isn’t it the loyal consistent fans that really count? I certainly miss the excitement. Let bring back the Thunder.

  • Dude… I can’t say i’ve tried Sauterne before but after this show we’ll probably be trying it out.

As for the 1000k of comments don’t worry about it. You got a lot of people who viewed the episode. Hang in there! 🙂

Gary, sweetie… You had 182 comments on your first anniversary show, and around 670 on yesterday’s before I watched today’s ep. I want you to think about this just for a moment.

I’m glad your email made me laugh, because episode #413, while informative, left me (and my 15yr old, who often watches w/me) feeling deflated. “Smell”?!! That’ll be enough of that crap! You did seem to be working rather hard at being subdued, so I have hope.

QOTD: I’ll bet I would like Sauterne. Haven’t had one due mainly to price intimidation. But I really enjoy a good port, have had some late harvest rieslings and some other dessert-type wines that I’ve liked very much, so if I could find a $30+/- Sauterne…

    Question for you, GV:
why did you taste the sauternes older to younger?
And have you ever rated a cheese less than 90????

    🙂

Do I like Sauternes? YES, many times over! It is one of the many wines that I require periodically. We have a few 1990’s in our cellar and have to agree that they’re one of the best “values” out there. I typically look for Rieussec, Climens, Doisy-Vedrines, etc.

Beyodf Fargues, what do you recommend?

QOTD: Yes…I love Sauternes. I have some 01’s and 03’s set aside for the long haul. I was blessed with the chance to taste a 1976 d’Yquem in the summer of 2006 and have been on the hunt for an affordable bottle of it ever since then. I’ve never had foi gras yet though….great show…bumber you didn’t hit a grand yesterday…

Thanks for busting out the cheese for a change. That reminds me to have some cheese with my corbieres wine here.
QOTD: have not had one yet, but hope to someday.

  • Thanks for the episode today. When I saw your twitter status on facebook I was crushed. I was so happy you decided to tape today though!

QOTD: I wish I could afford to try it, but I’ll just have to wait until I’ve moved on from the CKC and the Med School KC. I’m sure it will be worth it.

Qotd. Love sauternes. Can’t get enough of it.

  • SGoodwin

    GV,

Don’t let the 1,000 comment short-fall get you down. Shake it off! Tomorrow’s a new day and a laid-back Friday at that.

And we’re working furiously on getting a Boston wine tasting group going thanks to you!

QOTD: Never had a Sauternes but you did help me with the pronounciation on D’Yquem and Botrytis.

QOTD: Of course I like Sauternes. I don’t trust anyone who says they don’t. Its like saying you don’t like chocolate chip cookies or duck fat. I’m always looking to value Sauternes especially so I can fufill my lifelone dream of drinking Sauternes every night.

  • DrDan

Missed the second anniversary commentary yesterday. I just got the new Wine Spectator, then, and was distracted. Oh well. Seems like a long time–2 years–and a very short time, as well. The 400 episode mark seemed so much more remarkable, incredible, awesome, radool. I’ve got an open Doisy Vedrines on the counter that was started a week ago. Also, some truffle cheese to go with it.

QOTD: I think I’ve just had Jordan’s 1983 The Riviere Rousse which is modelled after Chateau d’Yquem. It was wonderful. Dessert wines are special occasion wines for me, so I don’t have them much, but so far I like sauternes the best.
The show is stopping and starting a lot and Quicktime isn’t kicking in, so I’ll finish it tomorrow.

Not keen on the dessert wines, maybe they will grow on me.
