qotd: a micro brewThe wino in me has to point out that Condrieu isn’t ever a blend, it’s 100% viognier, no marsanne is allowed. (ditto for Chateau-Grillet)

I like the backbone this guest brought to the table!!! However, I think a little more enthusiasm and excitement was in order for a surprise on the Thundershow 😉 I’d go nuts if I was surprised by GV!

QOTD: What a fantastic question… this is a RIDICULOUS question, seriously!!! If I couldn’t drink a glass of wine, I’d drink… damn… uh… a Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald in winter, and a GL Holy Moses in summer.

Fun show today, like the guests.

QOTD: My favorite beer style is true English Pale Ales, not the American versions. I love the Fuggles and East Kent Golding hops used in these ales.

That was a pretty good one. Gotta say, I’m pretty jealous.

QotD: I’d have to go with a Stiegl. You know how the beer drinkers in Germany/Austria are…you have to drink the local stuff. I got hooked on Stiegl in Salzburg and have been loyal ever since. I mean, it was founded in 1492! It’s as old as our country.

    Good question, by the way.

Great ep! It would definitely be a belgian white or tripel.

Great show GV and guest. Lot’s of fun. Love the shiraz.
My beer consumption reflects food, mood etc. Love Guiness because of the complexity and character. One of my favorites is Skipjack lager, and I’ve only had that at the Carolina Hurricanes hockey games. Fantastically smooth and delicious.

QTOD: First of all, to the guy that said American beer tastes like water, uh, just not the case. Some of the best, most innovative beer in the world is now comming from American craft breweries. If I had to choose one specific beer it would probably be Firestone 11th Anniversary, absolutely incredible complexity. If I had to choose a style, probably double IPA.

  • That’s a funny show! I’ve never found a Shiraz I’ve liked. Yay Rhone blends! THOSE I like!
I like Killian’s Red, which I know is an American impersonation at an Irish brew, but I like it anyway.

Hey GV, great show. I’ve got some folks coming over around 7 tomorrow to taste the secret pack and was expecting the video to be out today. Have plans changed?

    Thanks!

QOTD: Starr Hill Jomo Lager, perhaps a potent Belgian Ale

  • Best guest QOTD ever!

QOTD: This is very tough, because it’s always dependent on the setting. If I had to pick one that I know I would enjoy, it would have to be Wayan, from Baladin. Awesome beer.

If I’m picking one just becuase I want to try it… No question, Westvleteren 12. Never had a Westy and am just so curious.

Sorry, no beer for me, don’t like the smell or the taste. Now a nice cup of tea would be a second choice. Like keemun or lapsang souchong.

Coming here to Des Moines? Hell yeah! I had no idea there were that many Vayniacs here.

QOTD: My beer palate changes too often so it would be impossible for me to say. I’ve never had a beer and said, “Wow, that’s the best beer I’ve ever had,” yet I highly enjoy most beer. So let’s be festive and say Dos Equis.

Great ep Gary. Awesome to see a member of the VN “Vaynerized” live!

QOTD: Guinness, most of the time. When I can find it, Kostritzer Black Beer (Germany) is also on my list of faves, as are Kirin (Japan) and La Fin Du Monde, an awesome Belgian-style tripel, about 9% alcohol, from Canada. You’ve GOT to try that one!
