QOTD: I like the Zork’s. My mom likes to pick up the Mambo at her local wine store. I was pretty much on par with you: a good easy drinking wine, especially for TV-watching or BBQing. I just don’t know about the Zork name. It seems too like it’s trying too hard.

QOTD… Looks cool, not yet. I’m seeing a lot of synthetic corks lately.

QOTD: I like the zork, but I still prefer the screw cap.
    Two questions:
    1.Where’s Mott?
2.Can you please do a Kentucky bourbon show?

QOTD: I sell the Hey Mambo and do very well with it. I agree, a good wine plus the ease of not having to mess with a corkscrew.

QOTD: I live alone so am often a solitary drinker 🙂 Anything that helps preserve inexpensive wine for a second or third day (who am I kidding) is fine with me. Have’t tried the Zork yet.

  • manonthemoon

Nice show, like the alternate closures.

QOTD: Yes, was the Plungerhead Zin from cali that is a decent effort.

I had the zork on the Woop Woop. I prefer it to a synthetic cork, which I consider the worst of all worlds combined.

Hey Mambo is done by Don Sebastiani & Sons and they are big on their marketing if any of you are familiar with their wines.

  • Hey, the “zork”‘s not half bad!
    Never seen one though.
It’s nice to see innovative new ideas like that on WLTV. And just in general, of course!

QOTD: The Zork looks interesting, but it would be good to know a little more of the science. For example, a lot of vineyards are parallel bottling vintages with corks and screwtops to see what the cellaring potential is like. For the coolness factor for the next Barbeque you go to, for sure.

I have read about the zork but never seen one. I would have like to have heard your opinion on the recork and repull of the zork. Was the refit tight?

Zork it, cork it, screw it, synthork it – whatever – I don’t care how you bung the bottle, just come strong to the pie-hole with some quality juice. All of these “alternative closures” are fine, but we really need to see how they stand up to the test of time. And I think what’s even more interesting is how they’ll stand up to the “passive cellaring” that most consumers do. How will they hold up in the kitchen, in the closet, in the basement, on a bookshelf?

Who was first to do the screw/synth plug? When do we get the first horizontal regional 20-year tasting from similar producers, one screwed, one corked (I’m thinking Penfolds Koonunga Hill vs. Something screwed)?

Man, this is like lewd (screwed) joke overload!

QOTD – No zorks yet. What’s it made of?

Had the Hey Mambo — loved the zork and still use it months later to seal open bottles; the wine was just ok

  • I’ve had a wine or two with a zork, but didn’t really care for either. The closure itself is fine, I just want a little something better underneath it.

QOTD: found the Zork interesting; haven’t seen one yet, now I’ll know when I see one!

seems like it wouldn’t cellar as well.. perhaps it’ll be used on the ‘drink now’ wines? Because from your notes, that’s what these appeared to be.

This would’ve been a good opportunity to use an aerator (although I doubt it would’ve helped these wines all the much)

QOTD: I’d have to say my concern is one that’s already been said: how will they do for cellaring? It does seem like they’re made for “drink young” wines. Cool idea though. Haven’t seen any yet.

  • QOTD: I haven’t seen one yet, but the zork definitely looks cool! I will be more alert and aware next time I’m at the wine shop.

Cool episode Gary! Are there other “alternative enclosures” that you can introduce us to?

  • QOTD: Never used one and it seemed fine enough. Honestly, I don’t get too choked up with what’s used to seal the wine, I’m more interested in the wine.
