I love Bierzo wines! A favorite of mine is Palacio de Canedo – Maceración. I also enjoy Cuatro Pasos as mentioned below! As a Spanish teacher just sharing a pronunciation point: Bierzo is pronounced “Bee air so” (or “Bee air tho” with Castillian accent).

Thanks for the interesting and always entertaining episodes!

QOTD: Pizza is so versatile, there’s no simple answer. With a good crust and a good red sauce or pesto, you can put just about any leftovers from the fridge on it and it will be great (grilled chicken, ground beef, sausage, shrimp, bacon, mushrooms, onions, garlic, tomatoes, artichokes, …). Just don’t put too many things on at once; simplicity is key.

Thanks for trying the Petalos. I had it recently and was blown away by it. It actually reminded me of some Hermitage wines I’ve had in the past.
QOTD: pepperoni, fresh basil, and mozzerella

  • Cool show, I’ve never had any Mencia before, will have go out and get me some!

QOTD: artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, garlic and pepperoni with mozzarella and an herb white sauce.

It’s pretty awesome, you have got to try it! (anyone have any wine pairing suggestions?)

    Completely unrelated –

I had my first Barolo the other day. Didn’t like it. It was the Cavalier Bartolomeo Vigneti Solanotto Barolo 2001 (highly rated) that you have at your shop. It got me thinking. How do I get a good representative sampling of some of the more expensive wine types w/o breaking the bank? If I buy cheaper bottles, I’m afraid I’m not getting a fair notion of what these wines can be. Also, many of these varieties require quite a few years of aging, so it is doubly hard to get exposure without spending a lot of cash (or waiting 5-10 years). I think it would be interesting and useful for many viewers if you did some shows along the lines of Intro to Barolo, Intro to Brunello, Intro to Burgundy, etc. featuring wines that you feel are representative, reasonably priced, and available. What do you think?

Thanks for all your hard work. Been a fan since the early episodes!

QOTD: I like “traditional” toppings and thin crust. NO CRAP like chicken, bacon, pineapple, or cheddar cheese. Love NY style pizza!

    QOTD-

My wife and I got a pizza stone for our wedding – we didn’t ask for it, but it ended up being the best gift we got!!!

We put: Spicy Italian sausage and artichoke hearts on a thin crust pizza with pesto sauce. THE BEST EVER!

Love the show. Keep it up!

Great episode. Gotta say, I do love the ‘chovies!! Must have some fresh mozz (in slices, not shreds), basil, sliced roasted tomatoes and olive oil.

    Another varietal to look for…
QOTD: Anchovies and black olives, hands down. Also, not too many people (including our 16-yr-old) want to scarf a piece if it has anchovies on it, so more for us! 😀

Another great episode. Thanks for the fun! I like my pizza with just cheese, unless it’s from one of those chains. Then I like to add some onion! Oh, and I love to sprinkle some red peppers on top!

  • I’m glad I came back and watched the episode! Label design contest, very interesting………..
So what does the winner get? (other than the obvious, pride, notoriety, Gary’s thanks, etc).
Do you want a classic label, a modern label, hipster label? Understated elegance or LOOK AT ME!
Can we use foil? Emboss? Spot varnish?
Can we go to the presscheck? What printer is going to print the label? I’d recommend Tapp Tech, Cameo Craft, or Collotype.
I need some answers before I get too involved!
