First, I guess. What an unusual time!

The producers of Lambrusco have done as much damage to themselves as the ones in Beaujolais did. Quality should always be first. But a well made bone dry and earthy Lambrusco is a great paring with spaghetti al ragù. The Bolognese drink most of it and send the sweet stuff abroad. 🙂

Short and sweet, this was! I like the mixture this year. Good stuff.

QOTD: Never even had Reunite, no matter how nice it is on ice.

Two surprises – early episode and a time-warp reminder of that ad!

    QOTD: I have not.
No time like the present, though. The husband will be bringing some home this afternoon…

I must have been one of your four viewers last year to query the Wine Library for Lambrusco. In December I had an Antica Cantina Ceci 2006. I had very low expectations and was very pleasantly surprised. I’m looking forward to having it on the patio with simple grilled hamburgers stacked on a bun with crisp romaine, a thick slice of ripe tomato and a thin slice of red onion. Definitely a good pairing with Bolognese sauce as one commenter already noted, and good with any fried Emilian foods like a panzerotti.

  • QOTD: Never had one, and you’re right. I’m 22, and never heard of Riuniti before you mentioned it. Might have to find those old commercials. They sound like decent throwback material, a la “Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Day!”

  • Never heard of it before this either. Granted, I’m under that 25 mark that you talked about.

In the glass, it looks EXACTLY like Lindeman’s Framboise. Crazy.

QotD – Never more than a micro niche product, these quality crafted Lambrusci are criminally neglected by even the wine world at large. I gave a couple of SKU’s (retail jargon) to the varietal, and was always confident, and very happy that people would learn a new ‘trick’ from their experience. Particularly, the younger, greener Moscato/ muscat set, who weren’t ready to move to really drier wines, quite yet.

Your play on Lambrusco frizzante for Valentine’s day is EXCELLENT, and I hope you and Ian, and everyone you share it with loves it.

The Kysela Pere et Fils site (one of those I supported), notes it’s great versatility, with affinities for Chocolate, gorgonzola, or cheesecake.

    Cin cin.

QOTD: Never had a lambrusco, but am fascinated now. Will have to get a couple bottles to sample after the wee-babe is born. My wine stockpile is getting bigger now that I am a teetotaler.

  • Nice show!

Yes. Actually, none of the ones I´ve had was a Riunite. And all of them wasn´t of too much quality.

Qotd: There used to be a german restaurant in Dayton called Suttmiller’s and we would always get pitchers of Lambrusco there. That is right in line with the “beer drinkers wine” comment. No idea of the brand, but we loved it.
