line of the day – ‘ I would like to have pig snout and ears with this wine’

Love Gary in this episode; he rolled with the negative feedback of the ‘College humor’ episode beautifully. As he says, you have to try different things, some will work, some won’t. Glad to see that he isn’t going to dwell on it at all. Back to his incisive, funny, super ‘on point’ self. Picking the ‘Suxx’ wine a masterstroke.

Great episode – especially enhanced by the terrible oak-monster-inspired chewbacca impression. Well done, Gary. Well done!

Maderia! I’ve been calling for a Madeira show for a long time. PLEASE! Gary! For the sake of all that is holy, please, please, please! Madeira. Educate us!

Good show, Gary. I think people are starting to get tired of the guests, especially those that don’t offer up any interesting perspectives on the wine world. I haven’t been watching the guest shows for awhile, mostly b/c they are too lengthy. But hey, you’re a person who seems to always be looking forward, so just keep doing that and surprising us with awesome shows and we’ll keep watching.

PS Time for you to go to some vineyards and tape a show. How about Mexico??

  • Enjoyed this show but I assume Mott was not filming you as I can really tell his style now. I have tried all three of these wines within the last year. I can agree on the Suxx. Even though it is over the top, it is enjoyable. The Mollydooker however, I didn’t like. I drink a bit of Verdejo and this just doesn’t do it justice. Way too much alcohol for me and heat is not anything that I like with Verdejo wines. The Thackery Pleides was in my notes a B- wine. I grade on a much simpler A-F scale with + or -. This wine just didn’t give anything to enjoy to me.

You really hit the nail on the head with the partridge and pig ears. I eat them almost every day, and now I finally know what to pair with them!

Loved the analogies today! Straw army marching into your mouth? Way to step it up! Great show, great wines, great hotel?

Good show, good wines. I have always avoided the MollyDooker whites, maybe I will give this one a try.

Now THIS is why we watch the show.
Tasting wines that are moderately priced that we can
actually find and purchase. THAT’S entertainment.

  • question to you…. do you ever come across wines (that you love) while in your travels that you cannot have shipped to your home/store?

Gary I finally got to watch the CKC episode and I realize its not my kinda humor or at least an attempt at humor. Maybe if you could have shot a 9 hour episode like they do maybe something funny would have happened. Amir is just pathetic and I agree with his partner the show would have been better with out him. But you continue to try new things so good for you. I liked todays show and I agree the Violinist is a nice wine much more interesting than the other wines they make. I did feel you were a bit edgy or stressed, reminded me of the ending to Goodfellows where he is held up in a hotel room freaking out. Maybe its the baby coming but buddy take a chill pill. A fan forever Waynestreet.

  • Hey Gary good show, HEY I AM FROM SINGAPORE, and ..yet.. at this moment I am eating cheese from Corsica and have Grasso Barolo (96) with it quite nice.

You still ow us a CORSICA wine show, these wines are amazing and never made it!!! If you need some choices or advice I can help out.

Equally interesting, although out of reach for you US gringos, are wines from Cinque Terre (I NEED to hear how you pronounce this!). I will go there next month to check th wines out.

I only write this becuase you ordered me to NOW leave a comment, I am such an obediant guy…

    Cheers Hannes, Singapore

Inspired in large part by WLTV, I am going to make a point of trying, within the month of April 2009, at least three wines with verdejo as the dominant grape.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verdejo

(from a US gringo who knows how to pronounce “Cinque Terre” and has tried some — but not nearly enough — of the local Ligurian wines, including sublime “Sciacchetrà” and more)

    great episode
the best chewbacca impression ever ! and was that schwarzenegger ?? i laughed so hard
ive had marquis philips roogle red like 1/2 a year ago and i noticed it had that “greatful palate” logo on there i actually still have the bottle on my kitchen counter. ive been tempted to get it again and try it again. i think it was 90 or 91 points r.p. and it was only 9$ and was 15.9 %. so it wasnt bad at all for what i paid but yeah i would like to try it again AND ! it was a screwtop 🙂 you should have it on your show maybe ..anohter screw top episode??

Gary, don’t apologize for your show. It is yours afterall. I think something different is a good thing. I’ve been far more annoyed with some of the “expert” guests than I have been with these kids. I didn’t think the episode yesterday was anything special but at the same time I couldn’t watch the same show day in and day out either. I’m shocked at the snobbery in some of the comments about that episode. People…relax!

Really enjoying the hotel shows as I’m on the road alot and doing that exact routine most nights I travel.

I really enjoy your spirit when you are into the wines. It is the reason I log on each day.

I know you need variation to keep your juices flowing. So continue to try the different venues. Some will work, some will not.

I am so very grateful for your committment to educating us on the wines that are out there and need to be considered. While many are not available to me, it is the adventure and the quest of wine that contains the joy and I will try new wines and will find the joy of the quest.

I commend you for your success in expanding this Texan’s experience. I will be in your debt much, much more than you will ever know.

  • Gary, great show. That chewy impression was disappointing but still fun. The realness of the on the road episodes is awesome. I think my favorite shows are the ones you do on your flip. I think the concept you introduced in #648, what am I drinking?, is a great idea too btw. Thanks for the knowledge, passion and inspiration you bring everyday!

Day late watching. Good wines, interested in all 3 actually.

I was thinking – you should do an episode that focuses on the Kirkland brand wines from Costco, a la your previous Charles Shaw show. I’ve tried a few and found them to be good basic values, but would be interested in what others think.

Something I was thinking the other day related to the question of the day is that we rarely hear either Gary or Mott’s answer to it. It would be great if you could throw it into the show.
