line of the day – ‘ I would like to have pig snout and ears with this wine’

Love Gary in this episode; he rolled with the negative feedback of the ‘College humor’ episode beautifully. As he says, you have to try different things, some will work, some won’t. Glad to see that he isn’t going to dwell on it at all. Back to his incisive, funny, super ‘on point’ self. Picking the ‘Suxx’ wine a masterstroke.

    hey gary,

    first time commenter.
have been watching for about a month now.
i am new to the wine game, recently had my colon removed,
and the only alcohol i was allowed to have during recovery
was wine. never being a wine fan before, i took this as a
    test to start learning.

quickly my palate was drawn to pinot noirs then to syrah
and petit syrah and now am enjoying many of the spanish
    varietals like tempranillo and carmenere.

LOVED the Rosenblum Petit Syrah Heritage Clone 2006 you featured,
sadly a $20 bottle is not a day to day expenditure for me.

thank you for continuing to educate my wine knowledge and repping
    the new wines!

    come back to cleveland soon!

    go cavs!

    R.

While filming, what are you watching on tv? I see the reflection in the other glass.

16% alcohol kind of scares me. I would barely be able to drink any.

Great to see you sipping and fronting about a Verdeho (sp?). It’s an old friend and a favorite every time I pour it for people.

Didn’t watch yesterday’s show because I thought that I would probably react negatively. Still, your willingness to accept criticism and respond professionally and positively is really impressive. We don’t expect a gem every show, so it’s not a big deal. That fact that you turn right around and put out the effort to do a hotel show is amazing–really puts those Negative Nellies in their place.

Nice episode GV. You can give Mott a raise since he’s so good at what he does. Also, you need to get the MottCam.

here’s my comment…just started watching about a month ago…you’re getting me into wines more, as I normally drink my beer…that bogle petite sirah show I came upon came in handy when I found it in the archives…it won me a local wine tasting contest versus my “wine expert snob” buddy’s 2 left feet…beat him 3-1…there were 4 of us doing an impromptu wine tasting…mind you we are beer drinkers mostly…and we had so much fun with it other people there gathered around us to imbibe and enjoy…and we now have a formal, wine tasting club…that seems to be growing and growing…the owner of the restaurant brings in a wine distributor for some education and tasting, too…anyways…thanks alot for your show…i’ve been turning others on to it…except, of course, the snob…he just loves Robert Parker…okay, back to my bogle petite sirah…the local supermarket here in Tampa keeps stocking ’em and we keep buying ’em….(never even heard of petite sirah before and I’m in my 50s)…let’s give it a whirl….maxfl1

  • Loved this episode and the Charleston Chew reference. I could totally picture that. Looking forward to the Madeira wine episode. My husband’s family is from Madeira Island and they love their wine, no doubt about it!

I wish my show could be done without editing…love the daily aspect..

    Gary,
So sad to hear that people ragged on Jake and Amir. Obviously they don’t remember what it’s like to be that age. It’s taken me 20 plus years to learn to appreciate wine. Learning to understand and appreciate wine takes time and we all start off at the same level as those two young guys, same as any other effort in life. I’m glad to see you trying to get people to expand beyond the old college drinks of Bud light and vodka drinks.

I totally agree with the bit about white wine. White wine isn’t any less serious than red. What I’d like to know is “where did this notion come from?” Why do people look down on white wine so much. Find a way to work that into a show. My QOTD!

  • Awesome show, and I think my favorite part about it is that the wines came from ANOTHER STORE! Glad you got a taste from our side, and I’m glad it turned out well.

Also glad to be getting more scenery! Hotels, apartments, fun stuff!

  • CatchtheBeaver

Awesome show. Something that I enjoy almost as much as drinking wine is hunting for that specific bottle of wine. It’s great to learn about new wines, new wine regions, cult classics or old favorites and then search the internet for more info on them and their availabilty. WLTV is an awesome resource for learning about new wines info!

  • Gary,

Love ya on Twitter, and absolutely love the show. Sometimes I think I’m a bit much of a wine beginner to really really get into it, but you’ve shown me that even if I’m in over my head sometimes it’s better to be that than to not be there at all.

So you asked for comments, if anyone ever wanted to leave one, and now I am! Keep up the awesome work, and stay pumped – you’re an inspiration!

    Thanks Gary! Appreciate the devotion.

I am not sure about the last episode. I guess I need to be in college. The guests came across to me like stoned teens being rude and stupid on purpose. NOt funny.

Sometimes a blend can be the way to go but that one sounded like too many cooks were in the kitchen. I can hardly recognize a single varietal let alone more than 3 or 4.

Love the hospital / state park restroom type spit bucket. Brushed stainless is so in fashion these days. Ha ha

QOTD: Hey Gary do you bowl?

….seems if your wines have a range, say 85 to 92, it would then follow that your shows could be, say 85 to 92 – your viewers have different tastes in wines and the presentations of wines – usually I would go a 90 plus….

    Greetings from Central Canada!

I really like that we’re not missing out on shows, even with Gary’s busy schedule. I could appreciate that the College Humor guys were a bit out of their element. Their humor didn’t play well with me in that context, but it might well have been because of the situation. Keep up the great work Gary and I appreciate the CKC episode!

Roll with the punches. You’re a good man, keep doing what you’re doing. Take the heat, the constructive criticism, the kudos, hey, at least you’re not getting shot at (something my Army Dad used to say).
