line of the day – ‘ I would like to have pig snout and ears with this wine’

Love Gary in this episode; he rolled with the negative feedback of the ‘College humor’ episode beautifully. As he says, you have to try different things, some will work, some won’t. Glad to see that he isn’t going to dwell on it at all. Back to his incisive, funny, super ‘on point’ self. Picking the ‘Suxx’ wine a masterstroke.

Hey Gary! Great ep – gotta love Verdelho – JUST had some this past weekend. yum.

Kiddies are on Spring Break next week and we’ll be in the Dirty Jerz to visit family, play in NYC, and stop by WL – of course. Hope you are around – the kids are excited!

  • manonthemoon

    Good showing.

My question for you is what is a “can’t miss” for Savannah, GA? Heading that way on Friday even though my mind is already there.

  • Jade from Portland

Good show today, GV. Nice, tight, and focused. The lighting was a bit distracting, but not too bad. Good rebound from yesterday.

  • Chilemily

Great on the road show today!! I am a newcomer to the show and have been watching for the past few weeks…and definitely will keep watching!

    BUT

You need to to do some more Chilean wine…I live in Chile and absolutely love the wine. I know you have done some shows in the past, but I think it’s time for a new one!!

Gary – fun show. You make doing your show look easy, though I doubt that it is.

For what it’s worth, I like Paul Q’s idea of announcing in advance [at least, once in a while] what wine you will be tasting on a given show, so we can taste along with you. Of course, that won’t work well if the wine is not widely available, but it would be cool if it worked.

  • Great show GV, “all is forgiven”, now i’ll have to visit John & Pete’s which is only a few minutes away from me.

Gary, this show illustrates why you’re often better going solo: you have a unique rhythm/cadence when you’re mentally in the wine zone, and it keeps the show’s momentum crisp and eventful. Now, granted, when you have colorful wine personalities on the show, that’s fun too, because there’s often a fun contrast between conversational styles, yet you share the same love of wine at heart.

But when there’s more than 2 people in front of the camera, especially people whose timing and sensibilities don’t sync up with yours, then the momentum can easily bog down, and it becomes, well, not so much a train wreck, more like an aggravating slog down a congested freeway.

Gary, if you hit the 101 or 405 freeways during daytime hours while you’re here in LA, I’m sure you can appreciate that analogy.

I didn’t think yesterdays show was that bad….of course not the most wine-oriented, but still fun and entertaining. Thanks for pumping out the shows while on the road. You getting stoked for fatherhood? I have my 12 week old chillin with me now, and it is the best GV…so much fun:) Any suggestions on what food to pair with a 1990 Chateau Montrose? Thanks for the show!

Gary, love the off the cuff shows. We really get to see the passion that you have! One show will not slow this movement down, people will continue to get out of the box and into the world.

  • Igor

Can you please interview Sean Thackrey. Check out his interview on http://www.chow.com. He has a lot of good things to say and is truly interesting.

Molly Dooker wines suxxx. Most Aus wine makers and Australians I’ve spoken to are embarrassed of these fad wines sent to the US market for the press and are considered virtual wine brands. No specific vineyards, not CR making these wines added tannins. Do Australians drink these wines??

  • Hey Gary, sorry you were so dissappointed about yesterday, but hey…this is your show so if you want to have those guys on every once in a while, so be it!

I loved this episode, keeps it interesting and I am intrigued about the Verdeho! I will need to try some soon. I love to watch and learn from you, even though you can be kinda spazzy! Safe travels!!!

  • Loved that you picked up Suxx, I’ve actually had it before (which is rare because I haven’t had too many of the wines that you put on WLTV) and even though I don’t like “fruit bombs”, I really had fun with that wine.

Hey Gary, I actually have a question for you (if you don’t mind). On yesterday’s episode, Amir almost (or did?) puke at the first taste of one of the wines. Have you ever put a wine in your mouth and just want to spit it up immediately?

  • Eckto Galli

Gary, watching your show everyday makes me drink more wine. I usually pop and pour while enjoying WLTV. cheers

  • AUSSIE SAMMY S

    BRAVO GARY, BRAVO…..

Congratulations on a trememdous episode….Thats was a 100% turn around from yesterdays attempt. Thank you.

I really love the on-road shows, they are so entertaining. I also enjoyed the wine selections. That Mollydooker is sensational

Continue to bring the thunder GARY..well done

nice ep tonight, gary. dont worry about yesterday’s train wreck, you do a great job 99.9% of the time. keep it up!

(long time lurker, never commented… your entreaty worked!)

Good show. Thanks for guaranteeing Mott’s job with the mid-episode camera fumble, not to mention the whacked late-70’s disco lighting provided by having the TV on! 😀

Note to Paul Q above: Type Secret Pack into the search box on the WLTV website for some past episodes along those lines.

I have not found a past episode on Madeira, though…

  • leaving a comment cause you asked for it!
Awesome ep. New fan and i love it. Check out alexf.ca and twitter.com/dtx

Been watching 1 year now & hooked. Great wine knowledge, culture, people, food, & entertainment. Came full circle for me because I discovered you by chance when searching for reviews on Chris Ringland’s 2005 Green Lion Cab & now you did SUXX. Curious about the Mollydooker & SUXX, its good to know that I can enjoy new world “bombs” or old world finesse knowing that my palate is all that matters.

  • Long time lurker, first time poster. Love the shows and always pick up something new. I actually met you with some friends at the Boston Wine Expo and am still upset that Macho Man is your all-time favorite wrestler. Shawn Michaels has consistently brought more Thunder than Savage. Rating Savage ahead of Flair, Austin, Angle, and Rock is also pretty crazy.

Anyways, my QOTD, are you going to watch Wrestlemania this weekend and who are you picking Triple H or Randy Orton?

I’m glad to see a more standard type show – your guests are great but this feels more like home. I’d like to see a Madeira show, too.

    Hi Gary!

I love the on the road episodes — Fun to see you scrounging around for wines in the minibar, going out wine shopping, etc.

The off-the-cuff feel is cool, I even liked the camerawork.

    Good show!

  • John Farrin

QOTD: It looks like the majority of the Vayniacs will embrace your attempt to expand their palate but do not embrace the expansion of the format of the show. At least you know they aren’t shrinking violets when it comes to speaking their minds 🙂 I watched yesterday’s show and admit that I don’t get the humor of today’s youth. When I was growing up humor was mostly based on common human foibles that most everyone could relate to. Today’s youthful seems to stem from disrespecting common skills and mainstream ideas. That smacks of permanent 1st stage of learning complex ere you’re positive you know everything. Ithank God that I have graduated to the second stage where you realize that you know very little. But, what the hell, I ‘m old 🙂

    Hey JMIZE,

I absolutley agree with you in the fact that there are some many Aussie Virtual wine brands in the US. I’m a Aussie who works in the wine industry here in Oz and I’ve never heard of SUXX!!!There are to many marketing wanks out there creating jazzy – fancy smancy brands and labels without the winery/vineyard/history to back them up. There are so many good boutique wineries here in australia that have a history, story and a premium product to show case how good our wineries and winemakers can do it. The problem from the consumers point of view in the US, these wines are very hard to find and if found they are often pretty expensive.

Gary love the show. I say it in most of my comments but sincerely THANK YOU for taking the time to do the show. You have expanded my pallet and mind. People think I know more than I really do because I can pull something out that I heard you say. I am honest with them though and tell them to watch Wine Library TV that guy taught me everything know. Again Thank You Gary.

How about a blind taste show it’s been a while, and those are fun.

this was a great episode. i have to say i didn’t hate yesterday’s episode, i just didn’t really think it worked too well. now on the other hand that video of amir getting pranked was so hilarious.

now if only i could get rid of this cold and get back to drinking wine, all would be well in the world.
