Best moment is when Robert Parker says that we should be making wine more accessible and friendly and GV turns the camera on himself to capture a big smile and a wink. That was a real laugh out loud moment for me https://khosim.com/

thanks for capturing a piece of this amazing event for all of us to see!

My favorite wine event that I’ve been to was, ironically, a Jorge Ordonez tasting here in Maine. I say ironically not just because he was in this episode, but more because I tend not to favor big, new world styled wines, which is the style for which Mr Ordonez is notorious. Obviously not every wine being shown was like that; there were some fantastic wines that were clearly old world in design. Also some of the fruit bombs were among the best I’ve ever had of that style. It was an amazing opportunity to try a lot of great wines.

  • Really, really good/fun episode. I love the toast to the Jets.

QOTD: Without a doubt… back in about April of ’08, you (Gary) came to Seattle and there was a little Vayniacs meet-up at Seattle Wine Storage where everybody brought a bottle, put it on the table, and just hung out. Talking a lot of wine, and even more “other.” I can’t imagine anyone that was there having anything bad to say about that set up.

  • Also, great call @ChicagoMatt. That looked EXACTLY like the back of Marv Albert’s head. Couldn’t stop laughing.

  • QOTD: definitely Jon Rimmerman’s 2009 Garagiste tasting party in Seattle this year. Among a huge selection of unique and amazing wines were 2 1942 Riojas, which were just stunning to taste.

  • What a fantastic venue, would love to attend one of those one day.

QOTD: I’ve been to very few wine tastings and the only world class wine event I’ve ever been to is EXPOVINO, last year was supposedly the best but I don’t have a point of reference, so I would say that I haven’t been to the best yet…

What is with the dude who keeps turning around and looking at the camera? Was he upset with you taping or upset that his horrible hairpiece is now on film?

“Changing the wine world, weather they like it or not” Were you the only one not sporting a jacket and tie? Love it.

    QOTD: Just local wine stores.

  • Wow…..Thank you for taking a total wine newbie into the “real deal” wine world. Love the sneak peek at “big time” tastings. I feel like I am in with the “in” wine crowd! I have never really been to a wine event. I did a quickie tour of Napa in 1993, but that is it. Rock on Gary…Keep on Crushing it!

  • Wow, fascinating! You should do more of this kind of stuff, kind of a peep into Garys world. Keep that camera rolling!

I have a feeling I wouldn’t have enjoyed that 45 Rioja by your description.

QOTD: Definitely the 2009 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Tasting Competition.
My wine “The Vault” just one Double-Gold “Best of Class”, so I was pouring, not tasting.

  • “Malbec was a disaster in France”? Does Mr Parker not like Cahors?

Ah, well. I’d love an evening with a ’45 Rioja, or a ’45 Bordeaux, or a ’45 anything really.

Q: Benefit dinner with Mme Lencquesaing a few years back, kicking off with a ’75 Coutet Barsac and proceeding through half a dozen vintages of Pichon-Lalande as far back as the ’59.
