Best moment is when Robert Parker says that we should be making wine more accessible and friendly and GV turns the camera on himself to capture a big smile and a wink. That was a real laugh out loud moment for me https://khosim.com/

    QOTD; I did a Port tasting at Imperial College given by Harry Warre. We tasted the 1997, 1994, 1991, 1985, 1983, 1980, 1977, 1966, 1963 and the 1960.

My favourite was the 1983 although still too young. The 1977 was just coming out and tasted full of treacle and toffee.

The 1960 and 1966 looked light brown and faded while the 1963 was very bright with definite red fruit – strawberry and rasberry – still quite alive, a beautiful port. the 1990’s were extremely powerful, very closed and much too young.

    A truly great tasing.

It was probably my first “industry only” tasting event. We had an afternoon to spend with the wines of Jorge OrdoΓ±ez. It was a great introduction into high quality Spanish wines. Some of the wines I tasted were the 02 & 03 Termanthia, 01 Muga Aero, 01 Ramirez de Ganuza, 95 Predo Enea, 01 Torre Muga, 02 El Bosque, 03 El Nido, and 02 Aquillon…just a great start into the wine industry. As for personal gatherings…it had to be an afternoon on “the island” with my friend & boss (at the time) Scott…1970 DRC Grands-Echezeaux, 66 Grahams, 70 & 75 Mouton, 75 Lafite, and just a handful of other great Bordeaux’s from the early to mid 70’s

  • Love the perfect timing! Thank you for letting us experience your world. How the heck did they allow you to do that? One would think RP and the gang would frown on that but nevertheless, we appreciate it.

QOTD: Good one. I’m guessing the first Washington DC Wine Expo. I finally got to see hundreds if not thousands of people have the same passion for wine as myself. I was always painted as a wino but this event confirmed I was not alone.

    Cheers!

P.S. The gentleman in front of you to your left had a pretty good piece. I need to find one of those. πŸ˜‰

GO COLTS! 12-0 tomorrow baby! Congrats to the Jets for Thurs.

  • QOTD: Wow, this is hard one. The best wine event I have ever been to. Obviosuly I have had a blast at a few of the Virginia Wine festivals at Bull Run with my friends, but that’s as a result of being in the company of great friends. As far as a wine event where I tried the most high quality impressive wines, it would have to be the Jorge Ordonez tasting at the Jefferson Hotel just this past October. I love Spanish wines and these were the best of the best. Jumilla, Ribera Del Duero, and Riojas are definitely some of my favorite wines to drink and there was a extensive line-up. I was also with some good friends that sell wines from VA & DC’s Country Vintner portfolio that I cherish so much. A fantastic wine event that I will remember as a milestone in my career. Did I mention I also had the honor to meet Mr. Jordones himself? I wrote a blog about it here: http://acblakney.wordpress.com/2009/11/17/the-hottest-wines-on-the-planet-part-3/

First blind tasting. Was a little nervous tasting with a bunch of sommoliers and servers from Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak in DC, but I definitely held my own.

Haven’t been to that type of event. Probably the closest thing was the 80+ wines tried over 2 1/2 days for my Spanish Wine Education course.

  • QOTD As a group my favorite wine event was a Winestate Magazine Regional Tasting for Western Australia. Tables of 10, each with a table captain, ywice during the night the table captains were able to access the wine room to get 10 whites and then 10 reds. The catch was there was only 1 wine of each bottle in the wine room (we were able to taste before the dinner started). I was our table captain and did not let anybody get past me into the room so I had as good a chance to get the wines we wanted. A wonderfully fun night.

As an individual my favorite wine experience was tasting the 2004 Tintara Regional Selection series – 3 vineyards with different characters (age, elevation, soil type etc) and the wines were mnade in a similar manner to try to hightlight the vineyard differences. The structured tasting also had lots of vineyard information including soil samples. Very educational!

  • Gary Vee,

Awesome video. I love the stealthcam tasting crash! What camera are you using? Did you get any grief from the stuffier crowd there?

My fav wine event was a tasting dinner at the Four Seasons in Chicago. The Chef brought out each course, paired with a complimentary wine. He discussed the preparation of the course and the craftmanship of the wine. I tasted some incredible wines that night, the Grace Family wines of the early nineties stand out. It was truly a great event, and benefited a charity to boot.

    Best Regards,

    Jim
