line of the day (to Mott) – ‘what did you watch last night…and don’t lie’

A few too many ‘in-jokes’ for me to get too pumped about this episode and a disappointing wine didn’t help

Thanks for the Loire wines! A couple of quick points you skipped, but it's ok , in the interest of a streamlined, quick-flowing show.
    1. Les Tuffeaux is named for a specific soil type, in which not only the Chenin, but from which some of the famous Loire Sauvignon Blancs get their unmistakable character, and identity.
    2. as you glossed over, I love that the Chenin Blanc have remarkable range, from light body, and slight, modest fruit, to viscous, ultra ripe dessert wines, (Bonnezeaux, and some listed as vin doux) which can age, easily, for 20-30, or more years.

Qot D – prob. Castello, for his outspoken character- loves to jump right into the conversation, just as I like to do.
Lawrence Leichtman(sp., sorry, if..) often has an anecdote, or some light to shed on a topic.

    muito obrigado, senor!

  • NY Pete

    whatever happened to KenP?

    I’ll visit soon.

  • Chenin blanc is hugely popular i Sweden and not the ones from France but from South Africa. There are about 70 diffrent to choose from at the Systembolaget (the state monopoly alcohol beverage stores) and only about 20 from France.
Me? well I like the grape too, no matter where it's from

QOTD: have seen and tried to read, and comment every show the last year, but there is no commentor that stands out in a learning-excellent-remark-kind a way. some are more active to creata conversation, which is good a few are funny and a couple is just … meh.

I wish I had a big softiness at least that could lead to a big hardiness!

QOTD. I don't have a favorite because I just read some comments below me. I always see the show a day later then you guys. I've just seen this episode. It's now 10 am on Tuesday.

Whoa, thanks! Jenn’s posting name was J -something( I’m drawing a blank). She was an aspiring actress if I remember correctly, as well as a great guest.

Qotd: I think i'll have to go with castello. He's always there to talk to. Kudos.

  • The PA wine scene will def “blow up”, but it might well encounter some stiff competition from Ohio and Indiana wines…

Fine, be semi-anonymous, but I think we all know you are an intregal part of the show. I just think it would be nice to see you more often then the random hand…though your right, it is pretty funny when we just see this hand come from off screen to nab a glass ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Love it, even though he kind of gave you this one.

Surprising as this may be, “parentheses/semicolon faces” are a way of showing respect… Analogous to bowing in Japanese culture.

  • Sorry for stealing your answer…*starts writing on chalkboard*

Loire Chenin!! I'm a HUGE fan of this varietal, especially in this region of the world- more episodes covering this please!!

QOTD: I have always appreciated SS Chris for all of the work that he has put into the show, continuing to post Gary's scores while not even having an official affiliation with WL. HOWEVER, I have recently been LOVING seeing the legendary MOTT'S posts in the comments section!! And the Bender avatar is amazing! MOTT WINS!! Cheers to all long-term, persistent commenters…

    LLtD!

  • Franรงois gets a proper pronunciation, and Mott's first name is Chris (unless I was simply confused). What a show! I will add Loire Valley Chenin Blanc to the ol' queue. Come to think of it, my queue was empty.

  • elron

I think NY Pete, SSChris, and Brooklyn Paul would agree: KaDN! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • NY Pete

wow … only 1 comment by the Vaynermeister … WTF Gary.

I like this value Vouvray. It's dry.
    PA Code: 22341
Description: Cave de Vouvray Vouvray Les Lys 2007
    Size: 750 ML
    Price: $10.99

I have been watching for over 2 years and I have never missed an episode. I have commented on every episode. Sometimes I fall behind a few days but I always catch up. My name was M before I had to pick a longer name.

  • Hey Gary

Good show and good giving heads-up to those who comment!

QOTD: Well it's hard. In honestly think I've done a pretty bloody good job. I've basically left a comment every eposide since about number 160. It's pretty hard as I can't watch the show at work as I'm a teacher and Winelibrary is blocked at my school. I have to watch it on YouTube, email my comment to myself and then enter it in when I get home. As a result I don't get a chance to read the comments and fourum as much as like, but still…

    Cheers
    Andrew

bummer… love that Chenin… did you say francois “sh**ty own”?

  • You can't quit me!

Murso, you’ve been challenged. I take Murso’s word for gospel till now.

  • Totally agree, love seeing Mott’s Bender avatar pop up in the comments

    Mott wins

  • I have this exact same problem. I usually watch via iTunes and see episodes 2-5 days after they air, by which time a new one is online… so I miss out on a lot of good discussion due to my tardiness ๐Ÿ™

Just don’t call us lurkers! Haha

  • QOTD honorable mention to AndersN here, who always has good answers/suggestions when I have asked things

  • Sad for your disappointment on the Vouvray, but we're sending a big Loire Valley thank you anyway for tasting some Chenin Blanc!
We produce 100% Cabernet Franc at the moment, but we're waiting on our final authorization to plant Chenin Blanc for the first time next year. Exciting times!!!

  • notTheFalseD

QOTD: Hands down – Vay-ku. Now sure, I'm new, and thus haven't really seen enough comments/commenters to have my opinion count for anything, but I definitely appreciate someone who is able to distill the essence of each WLTV episode into three compact lines (composed of seventeen, no less compact, syllables). The one for this episode is particularly poignant (somewhere around the 4th comments page from the end), and I'd cut/paste it here were it not for my concerns over copyright issues.

  • slave2thevine

    QOTD: Kahuna…

  • well, I’ll guess a thanks are in order ๐Ÿ™‚ A bit of a spin off of this Wine Tv show http://blogg.anderschokladprovning.se

  • hamlet

Tuffeaux means calcarous soil. Le vin doux is usually associated to vin doux naturel (fortified wine like banyuls, riversaltes, etc) and has nothing to do with the sweet wines of the Loire (which are usually called demi-secs, moelleux, or liquoreux, depending on their sugar content).

  • I think Mott has the style just right, coming in from behind the lens…I even borrow from his fine technique, and do an homage, less the good camera skills, in some of my own posts. See the Algerian wine or Montes Folly post…

  • forehead slap. served up like a softball.

  • he might be miffed that he’s not been mentioned in the QOTD?

  • olivierschutte

I can't believe de Clos Badoin was somehow disappointing! Maybe it needs a little more time – I recently had Montlouis 'les Choisilles' 2004 and Vouvray 'Clos Badoin' 2005 from Chidaine and they were both totally spectacular, especially the Vouvray! Maybe it is also the terrific vintage (05) – but 2007 shouldn't be bad.
    Chidaine rocks!

    Mornin' Gary,
Jacq. here from Toronto! Lovin' the chenin show. Yes it's like that though eh, light and austere or big and robust. Kind of like riesling at times. Just depends on the winemaker's objective. Now I just wish they would be objective about the price based on each vintage and not on vineyard status! Mmmm…….

Lovin' your energy! Lovin' your teaching! Lovin' your ingenuity! Lovin' your showmanship!
Lovin' your joie di vivre. Lovin' your way of taking the snob factor out of this world that we inhabit!! Brilliant!

Q.O.T.D.–New to your site so not too familiar yet with the commentors. Having said that I do enjoy watching you and your dad! Hey is your mum involved? Would love to see her and have her opinion!

Have a great day! The weather in T.O. is magnificent too!

    Cheers
    Jacqueline

  • alvarinho time soon? The potugese name for albarinho. You had one for nov 09 club B. I think the portugese make really good wines of that grape, possibly better than the spaniards.
    Just a suggestion ๐Ÿ™‚

  • BrooklynPaul

    Wow…just wow. I've made it!

  • BrooklynPaul

    what is going on?

  • vpass64

I got excited when the episode said Loire valley. I guess they did not bring the thunder. I wonder if WLTV will ever have its own wines?

  • BrooklynPaul

    QOTD: there's a comment section?

  • Richie

QOTD: All of them. I can't decide.
