Hi Gary, first post on your site. Thank you so much for what you are doing to the wine world ! Definitely democratic ! Thank you also for your energy, and passion.
I am a french guy, leaving in Japan, and this week end I am going to experience Chateau Fombrauge 2005, a Bernard Magrez Saint Emilion. Full of promises. We will see. Wish you all a great week end !

Always liked Nebio’s , 04 and 05 should be great as well.

qotd; anything to thin to eat.

  • Randall

    Bwwhahaha!!
    :D!!

  • WineWoman

    How ’bout regular 7-Up?

  • harlan

Yeah, really. I think — no, I hope — that shirt is humor of the ironic kind.

Good episode. Drinking some kind of Mexican beer sampler pack from Costco.

  • Randall

Dude… Run, don’t walk, RUN down to any decent store in Nor Cal and pick it up…
If you like that spicy West Coast red ale style you will LOVE this beer. It’s a big ‘un, too, weighing in at 8.56% ABV, 1.085 OG, and 76.92 IBU
    How am I so certain of those #s, you ask? Why, I’m looking at the bottle’s label right now, my good man. ;}
Which, along w/ some homebrews and various wits from Belgium (and domestic like Victory, Rogue, & Lost Coast, e.g.) is my answer to the QOTD…
btw The beautifully balanced malt that soaks up all those hops rather smoothly ensures that it’s not as bitter as that IBU# would suggest.

Excellent show! QOTD: Well, this evening I had an superb Bombay Sapphire Martini, straight up, extra dry, with a lemon twist. (Forget about olives in a martini. Just say no.) Funny thing about the shirt. I had noticed it last time you wore it, and then Mott mentions it. Wikipedia says: “Teach the Controversy is the name of a Discovery Institute campaign to promote intelligent design, a variant of traditional creationism, while attempting to discredit evolution in United States public high school science courses.”
You don’t really believe in that Creationism nonsense, do you?

  • Vas

Love it when there are good wines and the passion comes out.

QOTD: Strub Niersteiner Riesling Kab 06, maybe something from Selbach too

  • Randall

Please don’t start this conversation here at WLTV. Unless of course you can show me ONE fossilized example of a transitional species. Out of the MILLIONS of fossils that have been collected, there is NOT ONE single, solitary fossil that links one species to another. Kind of a “cow-on-the-way-to-being-a-horse” type animal. Logically, there should be millions of them. So please keep this issue for another day, another forum. 🙁
    p.s. Not even one…

  • scottEJ

G…that Italian is gone. You still got it. The moment you score a wine 95+ that doesn’t SO…then you hang it up.

Rock the concept…should be your next t-shirt.

Great show Gary. I wish I had 100 bones to drop on world class wine.
Having a great weekend in Chicago, going to second city’s ETC show, which I hear is the best since, strangely enough, the 92 season. But we’re going to the Drawing room, the best cocktails I’ve ever made. Great chicago weekend.

Q – just enjoyed 1/2 the bottle of 2003 Leconfield Coonawarra Cab. Discovered it in 2000, w/ the ’97 vintage. Ohio ret. was then about $22. I was really impressed w/ the overall performance for several vintages following, it was on par w/ the likes of Penfold 404, or Wynn’s comparable level, and they’d held pricing in check, despite market trends/ world economic forces. In my new state, I just found some bottles of ’03, at a crazy good price, so … I like this. Still has depth of fruit (just maturing), and a balanced hand w/ oak spices. Drank w/ Lamb chops and wild rice for dinner. Made me happy.

  • John Rogers

Great show, of course the wine did help. It is always good when you taste great wine
and you just go bonkers. I imagine that’s why you do this show.

QOTD: Don’t know yet since I bought six different wines(10% off).

  • Stan The Wine Man

    Gary,
I hate the Patriots just as much as you. If they lose, it brings me more pleasure then if my team wins. My go to beer is Arrogant Bastard by Stone Brewery. Intense beer without being over-the-top. No bitterness, just INTENSE. Good job with Schnieder Mike (Not Mark). Cheers!

Woooooooooowwwww!!!!! Wish I could afford any of these at this time. Can only dream,…..
QOTD: Water!!! On a 2 week detox after going crazy on my vacation.

    Greg, (I mean Gary)
You are such a nebbiolo whore! I have a few tucked away that I am looking forward to trying in about ten years. I am drinking FireBall bourbon according to my wife this weekend, bummer. By the way dude. If you want to do a Washington wine focus bring me on board and I will bring some of our best stuff… at least in my personal opinion. Just a thought. Keep up the good work and do not quit at #1,000 you have a lot of years in you. Love your show!

I wonder how Sir Gary Vaynerchuk would have reacted to these wines? I think you should have him back so he can review for us a few selections from his personal cellar!

Is it bad that I have been watching long enough that I did indeed notice the longer taste?

QOTD: I will be helping pour wines at, then tasting wines at the Vintage Ohio festival, featuring wineries from Ohio!

  • Anonymous

Just a pint of Boston Lager.

  • Anonymous

noice show g. These wines are generally out of my price range….so if you want to cork them and send the remainder…

  • Anonymous

QOTD: The annual Chili cook-off is this weekend. Got a keg of Snake Dog IPA, a bunch of cheap prosecco for toasting, a bottle of woodford reserve, and I’m sure there will be a plethora of other spirits arriving with the guests.

Oh…I also….from an unnamed source, got a quart of some peach shine. Sweet merciful crap… You described that wine as Mike Tyson meets James Bond. This shit is like Godzilla and the Queen of England had a baby. A refined wonder that leaves you breathing fire.

  • Anonymous

Please let me know if you find any decent ohio wines. I’d love to support the local business, but every time I spend money on regional wine I get burned.

  • John D.

Great show! Love nebbiolo, and am definitely drinking more of it lately. The palate is really enjoying them. Hoping to add some to the cellar this year, but need to get a bit more educated.

  • Thursday

harvard or FSU… rebuilding the bridges with the sarcasm I likes

  • James Tyson… The thought alone is worth 97 points.

QOTD – Don’t know yet, but should know by tomorrow. I’ll alert the Vaynernation as soon as I have any info.

    It’s pretty good but sweet.

I remember one night having several and waking up sicker than I ever was before…

    What a pounding headache……..!

  • Wow 97 points…

QOTD: French Merlot 2007, and Beer.

  • Anonymous

Waynooo, really enjoy your writing styleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • Anonymous

Always a kick when the wines score well – or in this case, VERY well!

The shirt is kind of disturbing, but I don’t know the details……

QOTD: Just a simple Beaujolais Nouveau and another Burgundian Sauvignon Blanc.

    Cheers!

  • Allan

    Seriously good show!

“Steven T, you need to step it up baby……”, that was the premium moment. And i totally agree with you G, Nebbiolo is the future, i love that grape!

Giacosa is The Master. Only wish i could afford his wines…. but that being said you can find really good Nebbiolo out there for a fraction of 130… just sayin’.

Qotd: Two German whites, 2008 Schloss Vollrads Riesling & 2008 Kloster Eberbach Marcobrunn, both dry. That’s how i like my Riesling, yeah baby!! And Yeah, Riesling is my second favourite grape, besides Nebbiolo….

This was the best way to end this great week, thnx for the content G
    have a great weekend all.

    Cheers! 🙂

how dryyyyyyyyyy do you like it???????????? Drrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy………Bo yeh

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Water because I’m on antibiotics.

  • Howard

Good show again, I like these higher end shows and agree with your comments about Nebbiolo.

QOTD: Ch Lynch Bages 2003: good but a little overblown (for my palate), like a lot of the ’03 Bordeaux. At the start of its drinking window, I think, I would suggest holding if you have some.

  • Bryanpederson

QOTD: Yellow Tail Reserve Shiraz 2008….goin’ down under mates!

  • Anonymous

Great show. Love when you break out the high-end goodies. In the past, I have not been a Barbaresco fan but am willing to give this a try. As for the Cab…. Love that wine!

  • 🙂 thnx

  • Joe D.

EPISODE 222… If this is the best Togni you’ve had since ’91 why only 95 points?…In episode 222 you gave the ’04 Togni 96+

  • Dann_In_NH

Very enjoyable episode, love the hi-end wines.
Regarding the ’07 Togni and your comparison to the Shafer. I didn’t realize their HS was available for tasting, only the ’06. Sounds like the Togni is one to add to my Cali cabs.
Hoping to see you at a NH book signing.
QOTD: Dos Equis at a barbq

  • Randall
