Yes, I agree about Chile. I have had a few very good carmenere wines. A very interesting and underrated grape. I would like to see more of these wines.

Usually ‘Inka’ pops into my head first when I hear South America with no other context. With wine, however, it’s Tannat!

Thanks for the shout out, GV!

  • South America = South of North America.

  • I don’t know when the last time I made a poopy was. Maybe in 2nd grade. haha that was a nice line.

Did not see this before I posted. I would really like to see and explore Patagonia someday. Looks like a great place for camping, etc.

the big trout still take a little effort. But compared to flyfishing east of the mississippi…..yeah…..it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. Skip the fancy lodge if you can, and give yourself more than a week (allow for party time in Santiago, a trip to Easter Island, and a trip way down south for sea run browns). There is sooooo much to explore.
I can’t wait to go back.

  • Why no “and this my friends is the thunder show, aka, the internet’s most passionate wine program?”

Noooo! Don’t lose the starting tag line!! The “internet’s most passionate wine program…”

If you feel you should not say it anymore, at least overlay it in your intro. You have tremendous brand equity in that tag line!

Gosh Gary, you are on a serious roll. What an awesome show. I love the energy and focus. And kudos to you too Mott, what great reflexes. Also, thanks for the shoutout today. It meant alot to me. QOTD: beef, wine, and beautiful women.

  • south america = Carmenere…let’s see a show Gary! I like to play this card on guests who wanna tone down the fruit. Good show BTW!

Good, pithy show. I’ve had a few Chilean cabs lately, and a little disappointing b/c they were not cheap ($20-30). The trend as I’ve seen it is lack of balance.

QOTD: Great soccer, great music, great writers.

Qotd: SA=nice. Nice girls, nice scenery, nice wines.

I can’t wait until we can all get some communist Venuzelan wine at a great price.

    Yours,

    B.S.

I could watch you talk to the oak monster all day long… it could be its own show.

    GV:

This is the NOT-SUCK-A-THON. Good job. Fantastic week. I’m interested to see if there’s going to be a Friday show.

QoTD: South America = lots of cheap, BAD, sugary sweet, Malbec. Sorry. But balls and strikes, balls and strikes. Cahors for the Malbec. Cahors!!! REPRESENT! CAHORS SHOW, GARY!

  • BuffaloLou

I enjoyed the show. No big surprise for me on the wines as I have not been a fan of S A wines in general. That said, I appreciate GV doing the show on it. It was educational.

QOTD: South America (wines) = CA wines circa 1970; they have a way to go…

  • I like the way you’re manipulating me. I know I’m being manipulated, but I don’t really mind it. Never had a protein shake? for shame!

    QOTD South America = Sexy

  • John__J

I agree, I’ll take a Cahors over a Mendoza malbec 9 outta every 10 times

  • Admitting it right off the bat, been a lurker for a few years after being a constant comment (not the tea) and forum reader.
Loved the show, and I’m REALLY excited that you’re starting to talk more about Chilean pinot. I’ve been preaching the word on the Amayna pinot that you reviewed on episode 624, as I had it last year and LOVED it. I think I gave it to 4 friends for the holidays.
QOTD : South America = mysterious

  • QOTD: I thought of two things… Galapagos Islands and Brazilian Wax.

    Gimme some of dat Malbec!

  • QOTD: From Argentina, FELINO VINA COBOS. Malbec 18.99 BEVMO. Santa Rita is second this day. Great show Gary. AAHHH Oak Monster makes an apperance.

    QOTD: South America = HEAT

  • QotD: My mind went immediately to the old PBS show “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?”, based off of the computer game of the same name. I don’t know why, exactly, but that was my immediate word association.

  • Red Shouldered Hawk

SA Wines = Wines hammered in shipment, especially Chilean. They should either fly them or keep them.

  • South America stole our name.

QOTD: South America = Amazon (The rain forest not the online shopping site)
